  • "From the moment we walked in we all felt at home."

    The house was really clean and the gifts of cakes and coffee and hot chocolate were appreciated . Would love to return again. Location was fantastic for all the attractions and places to visit. Hosts were very responsive.

  • "What a lovely property and village."

    We had a wonderful time and everything you need is provided and thought of. The owners left us some lovely cakes and a few things to be going on with, which was a really lovely touch. So close to nice beaches and a good distance to other main attractions in Cornwall. Only 15 minutes drive from Eden Project, nice to go back after 10 years. The village pub is only a 10 minutes walk and there is a well equipped shop just a 5 minutes walk. Would definitely stay here again if we are visiting the area. Thank you so much

  • "We enjoyed our stay the house, it is in a quiet location, very comfortable and well equipped."

    There is a lovely view from the sitting room across the gardens to the hills beyond. The weather was mixed the week we were there so it was great to have somewhere that was so relaxing. Although there isn't much to do in Polgooth village we found that the location was good for short drives to Megavissey, the Eden Project, Fowey and Padstow for walks, boat trips and cafes.

  • "This is a really lovely house for a week's break."

    Plenty of room for three generations to be together or apart! Comfortable beds, great view and location and very friendly and helpful hosts. We've been visiting Cornwall regularly for nearly 30 years, stayed all over, but the St Austell area always pulls us back, it has everything we need. This house is in a peaceful residential road, making it easy to come and go. We've stayed in some lovely cottages/farms which have their own positives, but often include narrow lanes and farm tracks to get in and out, so Orchard View was a real joy.

  • "We loved Orchard View."

    Great location for visiting beautiful villages/attractions such as Mevagissey, Charlestown, Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and cycling on the local trails. We are a family of five (children aged 7, 12 & 14) and had a great time. The cottage has everything you could want and a beautiful garden, with great decking to sit and enjoy a cuppa while enjoying the beautiful view. The village has a great little shop with all the essentials should you need anything. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Orchard View.

  • "A very clean, well equipped house in a quiet cul-de- sac and with a lovely garden."

    Owners went out of their way to ensure that everything was in place for a very comfortable stay. We explored several local areas but especially enjoyed Pentewan beach and the busy harbours at Mevagissey and Fowey.

  • "Fantastic holiday at Orchard View Spent a week at orchard view, which was like a home from home, containing everything you could possibly need."

    The house is impeccably decorated and clean, with nice views from the back. The welcome scones, clotted cream and jam went down a treat, and also the milk so we could have a cuppa as soon as we arrived after a long drive. There was also a cupboard containing all the cleaning products you could imagine if we needed anything. The split level bedrooms and bathrooms were great, allowing the older kids to have some space downstairs while we were upstairs. We enjoyed the use of the BBQ in the evenings when it wasn’t raining, although a light outside would have been great so we didn’t have to retreat back inside when it got too dark. We even had breakfast outside in the garden which was lovely. A short walk through the houses to the left and you’ll find the Polgooth Inn which had some amazing food. Marianne and Chris messaged to say the house was ready, and again the next day to check everything was ok, which was a nice touch. There really was everything provided that you could possibly need. Thanks for a great holiday, and we would definitely return again.

  • "This was a great VRBO It was very comfortable and clean."

    My family had space and we were able to relax. The only reason for 4 stars verse 5 is because I've stayed at probably 30 VRBOs and although this one was in the top position there were just a few things I'd change. I have no complaints just suggestions. There is a washer (no dryer) but no place to hang your laundry. The only other thing is we had to go straight to the store for paper towels and a few other things that most VRBOs have to start with. Again this is not a complaint just a suggestion based on my experience with VRBO. We would definitely stay again! Thank you for sharing your home.

The property

Orchard View is a spacious holiday accommodation set within the centre of the former mining village of Polgooth.The property is only 2 miles from Pentewan Beach and only 4 miles from the beach and harbour of Charlestown.

This large and striking dwelling has been designed to offer a base for families to come together to explore the coast and countryside of Cornwall, brimming with plenty of things to see and do.

Enter the property and make your way to the heart of the home, the open-plan living room, which is situated on the first floor, taking advantage of the picturesque views of the surroundings.

In here, the kitchen enjoys contemporary units and all the mod cons required to cater your own meals, including a sleek breakfast bar so that you can pop open a bottle of something to enjoy, whilst dinner simmers on the hob.

Delight in your home-cooked meal at the formal dining table before sinking into the leather sofas, which are perfectly positioned for enjoying the views across the pristine gardens and beyond.

Alternatively, head to the ground-floor sitting room, where you can flick on the TV and safely store your bike, if you are looking to explore the area on two-wheels.

Completing the ground floor are two well-presented bedrooms, comprising of a king-size bedroom and a single bedroom, whilst upstairs, there is a king-size bedroom with an en-suite and a double bedroom.

Take a stroll through the village and stop off for a drink at Polgooth Inn, a classic Cornish pub, serving delicious meals and stunning views from the beer garden, or head to the shop to pick up the essentials.

Guests of Orchard View will be delighted by the scenic drive to Porthpean Beach, with good snorkelling and rock polling opportunities, or walk the famous South West Coast Path to discover several beaches, hidden coves and quaint fishing ports.

Attractions within the area include the iconic Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, or head further afield to the National Trust owned Dodman, for a scenic viewpoint.

Within close reach is Charlestown, where you will find the Tall Ships docked at the pristine Georgian working port, which you may have caught a glimpse of in the TV shows of Poldark, Hornblower and Mansfield Park.

Alternatively, find a larger selection of shops, pubs and restaurants within the town of St Austell or discover the Roseland Peninsula and spend some time within the villages of St. Mawes and St. Just-in-Roseland.

Just 3 miles from the sea, the village is close to several lovely beaches, and the south-west coastal path also runs close by. The area has a host of visitor attractions, with the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Tall Ships Harbour at Charlestown all within a 15 minute drive. The quaint fishing harbour at Mevagissey, with its passenger ferry across the bay to Fowey, is just 5 miles away, and the beautiful Roseland Peninsula with the villages of St. Mawes and St. Just-in-Roseland lies just a little further. Enjoy a coastal walk and take in the wonderful views, spend a day on the beach, or visit one of the numerous attractions close by. A fantastic location, any time of the year.
