  • "We really enjoyed our weeks stay in Church Hill House, excellent location, the house is really stunning, it has everything you need and it was fabulous to have a parking space."

Note to owner, we didn’t use the en-suite due to the constant awful smell and the sink in the bathroom next to the main bedroom wouldn’t drain so again not useable. Also it was a shame that the garden was a bit neglected, the bush has grown so high that you only get the view if you stand up, an easy fix because the view really is stunning.

  • "Whilst we had an OK stay, this property in its current condition cannot be considered 5 star."

There is maintenance and cleaning required to bring the property to Sykes usual standard. Cobwebs, dust, large mould patches in shower, shower slider absolutely filthy, large patches of damp, dirt on sofas and under furniture, dusty and dirty windows, dirty cookware, nettles and weeds on entrance, garden area and furniture in a poor state and cushions left out so wet and covered in woodlouse, steps to terrace slippery with wet leaves and a general feel of neglect to the property. The property description does not indicate how steep and how many steps there are to the terrace (and we struggled as very fit walkers) and it shows no pictures; you have to stand on tip toes to see the sea view! None of this could have realistically been addressed on our arrival. I dont know how long it has been since this property was reviewed by your manager, but it certainly needs to be done. This is the first property we have ever stayed in where there hasn't even been a pint of milk to welcome us. It felt like someone had just decided to move out for the week and get a big of income. Sorry, not Sykes' usual standard. Happy to share some photos if you require them.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly appreciate you highlighting the points you have raised. Our maintenance and housekeeping teams are currently reviewing and investigating these matters to ensure appropriate improvements are made moving forward. In response to your comments, we have updated the property listing to include a precautionary note regarding the steep access to the terrace, and the wider concerns have also been discussed from a management perspective. Thank you again for bringing these issues to our attention. We sincerely apologise that your experience did not meet the standards we strive to provide on this occasion. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future once these improvements have been implemented. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the Owners. Property Owner

  • "My family did have a lovely time in Church Hill House."

The house was gorgeous, we loved having a parking spot on site and the garden patio on the hill was so, so lovely. However, we wanted to note a few things that may help you better prepare for your next guests. The house did not have basic things like washing up liquid, a useable sponge for washing and napkins. And although I wouldn't necessarily expect it, it would be nice if there were dishwasher tablets and laundry liquid/powder for guests. It's simple things like that, that can make a big difference. Regarding maintenance -- there is a problem with the water drainage from the en-suite bathroom in the back bedroom. Both the sink and the shower got clogged almost immediately, resulting in my parents having to use the adjacent family bathroom. I wouldn't be surprised if the major water damage behind the back farmhouse door was from that. There was also a lot of cobwebs around the windows and dirt and bits of trash under the beds and couches. Those small bits didn't impact our ability to enjoy the house, but I thought I would make you aware.

PORT ISAAC

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions, including the beautiful Lundy Bay, known for being the filming location of the hugely popular Doc Martin series. You may be lucky enough to see the infamous Fisherman's Friends performing on the Platt during the summer months singing traditional shanties. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.
