  • "The property had the potential to be a really amazing place to stay."

We’ve come to porthtowan for years, and decided to stay here. On arrival the property appeared clean at a glance, barring the marks/scuffs to walls, and gaps between the laminate flooring in the kitchen. And the kitchen was well stocked with appliances and utensils. However the smell on entering in the property was horrific, to the point we had all windows and doors open the full stay and had to buy air fresheners and room sprays to make it tolerable. The downstairs en-suite sink was blocked, the master en-suite shower head was Brocken and tied up with a cable tie, and the family bathroom shower wasn’t working at all. The fridge shelf was broken so when we put the milk I the full thing fell out. I would say there wasn’t enough comfy seating for the amount of people who can stay there, and the mattresses really do need changing as they were so uncomfortable, you could feel every spring in your back. The bedding was lovely and clean and the pillows and duvets were all nice. I will say the owner was excellent at responding to our emails and was great at keeping us updated on trying to get someone to the property to check our concerns. He also informed parts had been ordered for the showers that had broken. We managed to unblock the sink ourselves whilst there also. We are also aware that costal properties often get drains blocked due to the sand , however the smells whilst there was definitely more than sand. We were very disappointed with our stay, especially as porthtowan is our favourite place to come every year as a family. But the property has the potential to be perfect, with some time money and a good deep clean.

  • "Lovely house."

Only negative was that there aren't enough comfy chairs in the lounge for 8 people. The sofas only seat 4 and then there are 2 soft chairs so 2 had to sit in hard dining chairs. But this would not out us off staying again. Also a little better cleaning in the bathrooms is needed. The showers although clean in the mist part there was some grime around the doors and seals.

  • "Pros The accommodation was clean and exactly as photographed."

Location was great, good proximity to the beach, 2x pubs, chip shop and shops. Lovely little touches and necessities provided on arrival. Cons The mattresses need replacing on all beds, very lumpy and uncomfortable. The two single beds aren't big enough for adults, perfect for children. (We were 6 adults). Additional mirrors required in the spare rooms. We would happily book again if the mattresses were replaced.

  • "The property was lovely and very well located (if you don’t mind a bit of a walk up a hill getting back from the pub, beach etc) and we were all set to stay again but the bed was so uncomfortable."

The mattress in the master bedroom had obviously been there for some time because it had two big dips in it and we slept so poorly we ended up leaving early. To make matters worse, as we were stripping the covers off the bed, we found icky stains on the quilt and it was obvious that someone had noticed them because they had tried to clean them off. It would’ve been better to just replace the quilt. There was also a blind missing downstairs in one of the windows so you never had complete privacy at night. It’s a shame really because everything else was spot on. Fully equipped kitchen, good WiFi, good TV (including one in the master bedroom). I will say that when I contacted Sykes Cottages about the bed etc they handled the complaint well and hopefully the owner will rectify the problem before the next season starts.

  • "Impossible to get hold of Cornish Cottage Holidays easily."

Email address provided does not work so getting issues resolved quickly is not simple. Sitting on the phone waiting for CCH to answer is not much fun when on holiday. More of an issue with the booking agency than the owner. Owners response to our issues arrived after we had left the property, more than 10 days after we notified them. Place not fully clean when we arrived. Rubbish bin in kitchen needs replacing as the lid doesn't work properly. Parking for #17 needs to be more clearly marked as the space on the gravel is undefined - other people parking there made it inconvenient for us. #17 has 2 allocated parking spots. The drive to and from the main road through the narrow lane needs the potholes filled in - after 2 weeks of driving and up down, my car was pleased to get a break. If you dont like driving in narrow lanes, don't stay here. Property is nice size for larger group with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms which is very handy. Wifi was excellent and never blacked out. Overall, reasonalbly good place but we will probably return to our usual place next year which is quieter and more private that this complex.

  • "The property itself is beautiful, well maintained and quite high standard furnishings."

The property is up a very large hill which is impossible for people with disabilities to walk. Pubs, bars and fish and chip shop are not very tourist friendly. We left after 2 nights as my partner (who's disabled) couldn't get anywhere without driving which in itself is a chore with the very narrow one car road leading in and out of the area. But if you are fit and healthy don't mind a hike and like peace and quite this is the place for you.

We were a bit confused about how to contact someone when the spring on the downstairs sink failed as we had booked with Sykes cottages and all the paperwork in the folders were for Cornish Holidays. We left a note for the cleaners to let them know as we had no phone signal. Despite that we had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend this property.

Very dirty, outdated needs facilities for drying out clothing, especially wet outdoor gear mattresses are far too soft, indicates that they've never been changed however, location is brilliant, car parking right next to the entrance, great little town down the bottom with couple pubs and cafs'

Thank you for your feedback. We can assure you that a thorough clean is done at each and every changeover. We have since spoken to our Housekeeping and all is in hand. There are a couple of hooks located outside of the upper balcony for wetsuits, that may have been missed. Thank you for your feedback. There is not an extractor fan at the property it is an air circulation system which is no longer in use. We are sorry to hear you found chipped and cracked glasses, normally this would have written in the damages book and those items subsequently disposed of. The broken latch has been replaced, also the mattresses and linen have been checked. The dust pan is kept under the sink and the hoover is located under the stairs. The house was very close to the beach, well equipped and very comfortable. The only downside was that there is no phone signal except through the internet and when that went down on the Wednesday we tried to contact people and no one responded to us. Contact details in the folder were out of date. We wanted to advise that on arrival the toilet seat in the en suite was broken and would need to be replaced but could get hold of anyone. • "Lovely house in a great location."

It was really warm and toasty and there was always hot water. However: 1) the duvet on the front bedroom double bed needs replacing. All the filling has disintegrated and is in clumps. Plus it’s not big enough for the bed. 2) my father in law found a pair of pants under one of the beds in the front bedroom with the single beds in. Not sure the cleaners are very thorough as they definitely weren’t his! 3) one badly cracked wine glass and two chipped mugs in the kitchen cupboard. Again the cleaners can’t be checking after each rental. 4) the duvet on the double bed in the ground floor bedroom is too small for the bed, it just about touches the edge of the mattress. Also the sink in the en-suite bathroom is way too small. You can only just get your hands in it. It’s fit for a cloak room not a bathroom. 5) dust and dog hairs under the easy chairs and tv cabinet. My mother in law got covered in it when retrieving our dogs ball which had rolled under them. Again cleaners not doing a good job. 6) rusty roasting dish needs replacing, as does the large frying pan. The oven also needs a thorough clean. We cooked each night so noticed these things more than some people might. 7) the Dyson hoover runs out after 2 minutes use, there must be a loose connection in the charging point. 8) no hanging space in any bedroom for clothes. My in laws only had two bed side cabinets in their room. This needs addressing. 9) the door sticks badly in the front double bedroom. 10) mirrors are needed in the ground floor bedroom and upstairs twin rooms. No where to look when you’re drying your hair. 11) the standing mirror in the upstairs front double room is really wobbly. 12) the dining table chairs aren’t great. They really need replacing. A couple are really wobbly and wonky. 13) dirty glass measuring jug in the kitchen. I had to wash it before use. 14) some dirty knives and forks which we had to wash before use. I know this sounds like a real moan, but unless you’re informed of these issues you can’t make them right for the next people that rent the house. Overall we had a great holiday, but it could have been outstanding had the above issues not occurred. I would be grateful if you could email me directly to confirm that you’ve received my comments.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Sea Breeze 17 Gannel. We have spoken to the owner and he was most grateful to have received your constructive comments and would like to advise yourself and future guests that he intends to make several improvements at the property during his visit in April. He was also most concerned to have read your remarks regarding cleanliness at his property and will be contacting his housekeeping team to discuss and to ensure there is no recurrence of this. Despite the points raised we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The listing needs to make it clear that the building is part of a former Hoseasons holiday development and not part of a street or road in the village of Porthtowan."

The owner needs to put double beds in bedrooms that can accommodate the bed and some storage/hanging or suitcase space, as 2 of the doubles were tight to get around if you had any luggage or if there was more than 1 person in the bedroom. Next door's rear gutter overflowed for the first 2 days from rainfall and kept the outdoor space wet for some time, which is where we needed to store outdoor items such as bikes. Some seating to the rear of the property is a good idea, as the gravelled corner area catches the sun nicely, whereas the front is in shade for most of the day.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay. We have spoken with the owner who has asked us to cover the points mentioned in order to help yourselves and reassure future guests. We would like to confirm that Sea Breeze is not part of a Hoseeasons development, although there are other properties on the site that are marketed by them. We are looking at altering the bed configurations to allow for additional storage. Unfortunately we are unable to rectify our neighbours gutter, however we will make every effort to contact them and advise of the situation, bikes can be stored near the back doors, where there is no overflow. The graveled area on the corner is part of the communal area and does not belong to us, we are therefore unable to place furniture here, we have requested that the management company provide seating and tables here because as you say it is a perfect sun trap. There isn't space at the rear of the property to provide seating. Despite the points raised we do hope you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

Shower cubicle in master room needs good scrubbing. Sink in downstairs bedroom too small. The iron is a tiny travel iron. Beautiful scenery. Very well stocked kitchen. We did have a very nice holiday but had to travel out every day due to having a dog with us.

Thank you for taking the time to complete our feedback response for your recent stay at Seabreeze 17 Gannel. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed about the beach restrictions during your stay, this is however a restriction placed on most beaches in Devon & Cornwall during the summer months. Although the property has ground floor accommodation the property is not specifically advertised as being suitable for people with mobility difficulties, we encourage people that have concerns about access within the property to call us and discuss the layout. We have place a brand new Iron and Dyson cordless hoover in the property and we have memory foam mattresses that are turned on a regular basis to avoid sinking, the sofa cushions have been replaced and cleaned with new throws added. We have completed a deep clean in the shower, and we have also replaced the kitchen clock.
