  • "The cottage is lovely & comfy but the real positive is the location."

5 minutes from the beach and harbour. Plus decent pubs and restaurants. Portreath is a beautiful village and very friendly. Beach is gorgeous but not overcrowded. There has been a few negative reviews about the en-suite bathroom but we did not find it an issue. The parking was fine & no problem to turn around, we have a Mercedes estate. The headroom in the living room is low but it is an old fisherman’s cottage - my husband just learnt to duck whenever he left the room! The garden is secure, our mad mut couldn’t escape. It’s a lovely sun trap to sit & relax with a good book or a glass of something chilled & alcoholic! We enjoyed our holiday so much that we are even thinking of rebooking next year.

! The one downside was the toilet upstairs, the smell was just unbearable from the time we arrived, there was no extractor fan so no air circulation ☹️

The owners have literally thought of everything. We came prepared with tea/coffee/milk/washing up liquid/tea towels/toilet rolls etc expecting that you had to supply your own and everything was there including enough scones/jam/cream to last us a week!

Lovely cosy living room and bedrooms. Woodburner was great. Saniflow in en-suite rather noisy at night but otherwise great. Conservatory wonderful for mealtimes. Cottage well equipped and welcoming. Had a great week there.

So close to the beach with lovely walks on the cliffs. We enjoyed the local pubs and bakery. One of the best pasties are baked at Portreath bakery. If you are a tall person the stairs and showers in Pebble cottage my be tricky to get up or in!But the character of the cottage out weighs that.Wi fi was good.Would definately recommend this cottage and would stay again.

  • "We had a great week here, what a wonderful location."

Beach within walking distance and other places just a short drive. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept really well. Just some general feedback - would be great if there was a draining board as it was difficult to balance the washing up. It the living room television was on a wall bracket that you could manover so everyone had a good view in the evening. No wooden spoon for cooking which was a pain. The shower downstairs stopped working due to an air bubble but the plumber that came showed us how to fix this. Just take the shower head off as hold it on the floor to get the water flowing. The downstairs bathroom had no heating but we reported this and they fixed this as we were leaving ready for the next guest. The hot water was a bit temperamental if you had 4 people wanting to shower at the same time. We didn't find parking an issue and it was easy to do a 3 point turn to get out of the lane. Apart from the small niggles listed above our stay was wonderful and the scone, jam and cream was a lovely touch. We'd highly recommend this property and would book again.

  • "Absolutely fantastic little break at Pebble Cottage -A traditional cornish cottage near to the sea."

It was very cosy, warm & in an ideal location. Everything had been thought of to make it comfortable including scones for a cream tea - tea, coffee , sugar & milk also provided. Such a lovely touch -Thank You. The cottage was Perfect for our dogs too. There is only one tiny issue (and its not a big enough issue to let it ruin a holiday) is parking. We have quite a long saloon car & had an adventure parking. After the first day we worked out it was easier to reverse all the way down the lane. I can imagine if you drove anything bigger like a 4x4 it may be quite difficult to park (& not overlap neighbouring parking spaces..) Our suggestion to resolve the parking issue would be:. Seing as the Summer House does not appear to be used- take that out & move the fence /gate back just a few meters to make more parking space. But other than that everything was great.

  • "The ensuite shower was useless."

There wasn't enough water pressure for the shower so had to use the downstairs bathroom. Unfortunatley by the end of the fortnight the water was backing up from the drain in the shower & we had to mop the floor. We didn't get a change of bedding or towels but we used the towels in the second bedroom as there are only the two of us. The mattress was uncomfortable too. Apart from this the cottage is very nice & in an ideal location for the beach, shops & pubs. We recommend the Bassett Arms for food especially Sunday lunch. Also recommend the Atlantic fish bar. We enjoyed our holiday & love Portreath.

  • "1 Backyard was slippery weeds were growing through the decking."

2 The freezer bottom was rusted. The top draw would not open because the freezer had not been de frosted. The level of hygiene around the freezer was very very poor 3 The carpet are filthy. 4 When we pulled the beds out to make sure that we had not left anything behind we found toenail clippings and a false nail which we left there because the room was not cleaned properly. 5 When we arrived the dustbin had not been emptied so we had to keep our rubbish in the summerhouse. When we vacated the property we had to put our rubbish at the front outside. No recycling bags are provided to sought are rubbish out. 6 The all the windows were filthy. On the kitchen window there is a vent which was had not been cleaned. Because of the extra hours that we lost due for the need to clean for the COVID situation I feel we have been short changed.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that the property was not cleaned to a high level which we would expect during this time and are surprised as usually we have positive feedback regarding cleanliness. We have raised your comments with our housekeeping team, who will address the issues raised immediately assuring future guests that the property will be clean upon arrival. There is a regular gardener and a window cleaner that attend to the property. The freezer will be replaced in the coming weeks Property Owner

The ensuite shower does not work. Water pressure is so slow it was nothing but a trickle or nothing at all!!. Secondly it should be mentioned that during the summer months, dogs are not allowed on Portreath beach. We booked the cottage thinking we could enjoy days on the beach, when in reality we had to drive to a beach each day.

Thank you for completing your feedback. The issue with the water pressure at Pebble Cottage has now been resolved. We would advise checking with the Tourist Information Board regarding dog friendly beaches especially during the summer months, when a lot of beaches do have restrictions in place. Property Owner

  • "Pebble cottage is in a great Location by the beach of Portreath and within easy reach of all other attractions in Cornwall the only thing that was not right is the en suite as the water supply to the shower meant it did not work so could not use it same with the shower downstairs but ran better enough to have a short shower."

The only thing I would say, is that the gate needs fixing, ( which I think the owners do know about from previous comments) as we had to block the hole/gap with something, because we had dogs. Also it says there is a DVD player, and there wasn't one, but this wasn't an issue for us. Other than that, all was well :)

  • "The cottage was ok but the worst we’ve had with Sykes (and we go at least three times a year with Sykes so have a lot to compare to)."

Very small cottage so it was very hard to get in shower (there was some reference to this in the listing but it is very awkward), storage heaters weren’t giving out enough heat so it felt chilly, mattress on double bed very soft and gave us both back ache. Some small things missing from kitchen like salt and pepper, tin foil, hand soap. Double bedroom very dated. We had a nice holiday in Portreath though and I think the owners could easily rectify things. Thanks

About the location

PORTREATH

Truro 14 miles; St Ives 15 miles.

With its sheltered harbour, beautiful Portreath was, in the 1800s, a hive of activity and industry as a major tin-exporting port. Today, the village attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese restaurant, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 14 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
