  • "We had a wonderful holiday at Forge Cottage (a return visit)."

A lovely cottage in a great location for exploring a beautiful area. Fantastic walks right from door and a short walk to the beach. We didn’t want to leave.

  • "Fabulous spacious cottage but with areas to improve or be aware of."

King size mattress requires replacing, you feel every spring as previous occupants have reported. Tumble dryer inoperative during our stay which we reported. Downstairs shower is very small and the lack of a shower upstairs is strange as has the look of a recent renovation with modern bath and mixer tap. Off road parking is great but the cottage is on a bend so caution is required when reversing into the drive and pulling out of the drive. Would also advise that a large SUV or estate car may not fit but you have the option of parking at the nearby pub. No garden furniture apart from a picnic bench. Kitchen very well equipped with absolutely everything you need. Two great rooms for relaxing in with big tv’s, one room will sit three the other 6. Upstairs bedrooms are of good size with plenty of storage as is the ground floor bedroom. The cottage is right on the A30 but once inside you don’t hear the traffic and a great location to access Sennen Cove. The cottage has been listed on Rightmove since August 2023 so would make a great investment but with a bit of upgrading required. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Forge Cottage but does require some work. Would we book again - yes - provided the mattress was replaced!

Thank you for your feedback. The tumble dryer was fixed on the following turn around day. We can confirm that the drive does fit an SUV or large estate car comfortably. The king size mattress is firm rated - the double rooms upstairs have medium/firm rating, but we will review the mattresses and replace during the winter taking your feedback into consideration. • "It's a lovely cottage comfortably furnished."

The welcome pack was an added bonus. The proximity of the property to the A30, means road noise is constantly heard. Which isn't great if you're hoping for peace and quiet. But in general a really nice property.

Thank you for your feedback. The cottage is near to the A30 but the windows are double glazed and you do not hear traffic noticeably when inside. However, you do hear traffic in the garden during the day. To put it into context, the cottage is right at the end of the A30 (last mile) so the traffic is local or to/from Lands End only. • "We had a lovely stay had Forge Cottage, it was exactly where we wanted to stay."

Just a couple of suggestions, plenty of room in the ground floor bathroom to have a bigger walk in shower. Although the bath is lovely upstairs, a stand in shower would be better, as that bathroom only got used for its toilet facility. The property was nice and clean inside, but first impressions from the front door and windows let it down, also the weeds growing in the front and back garden areas, just a little TLC needed. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a good stay. Unfortunately, the gentleman who does the garden maintenance and window cleaning has been seriously ill, hence a few weeds have taken advantage in the gravel areas. We note your suggestions tor the bathrooms. The bath upstairs is deliberate for guests with young children in mind, however, your suggestion for a larger shower downstairs will be taken onboard when next renovating that room. Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at Forge Cottage."

Comfortable and cosy. Very well equipped. The only negatives, very noisy radiator in the main bedroom (sounds like a bag of spanners in a waterfall when it comes on) and the downstairs shower cubicle is a bit tight, difficult to move around, even for the smallest member of our party and the exposed water pipes in the shower, the hot water pipe is scolding hot.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Forge Cottage. Thank you for letting us know about the radiator noise. This sounds like air in the system so we will get the radiators bled and the system re-balanced for good measure. Regarding the shower, your comments are noted and when next refurbishing this room, we will look at fitting a double shower tray for greater comfort. Property Owner

I was not contacting you whilst we were there as it would have only added more disruption to our holiday if the property had had been given a proper clean whilst we were there. I will provide a formal letter and photographs of the cleaning that has never been done for months.

Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to hear that the Cottage did not meet your standard for cleanliness. We can assure you that professional 3rd party cleaning and laundry services are always used. We do not understand why you were expecting cleaning for Covid as this is no longer required. Nevertheless, we have passed on your feedback to the cleaning company - had you raised your concerns at the time they could have been addressed promptly. We also note you declined the mid stay clean. • "Just had a 2 week stay at Forge Cottage and it was wonderful."

The cottages is so spacious and clean. When we arrived there was a bottle of prosecco waiting for us, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits. The cottage is in very easy access to Sennen Cove, which was incredible. All the facilities were brilliant and if we needed any help the owner's brother came out immediately and was so helpful. I would 100% this cottage to anyone. The only issue we had was the property is advertised with two bathrooms, the second bathroom upstairs had a bath with hand held shower, toilet and sink, which is beautiful, but unfortunately the bath we could not use as the water pressure upstairs was not strong enough to run a bath, so we only had one shower between 5 people, but we did manage. I would recommend putting a shower in the upstairs bathroom with increased water pressure. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay and would love to return.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you had a good stay and enjoyed your time in Sennen. Also thank you for alerting us to the low water pressure at the cottage. We have been informed that a number of people in the village have reported a similar issue over the past few weeks. We have reported this to the water company. Property Owner

The owner left us a few goodies which was a nice treat. It was the cleanest holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. It was in a great location for Lands End which was a 5 minute walk away and Sennen Cove could be reached by foot from a public footpath opposite the Spa shop. We had a lovely time and would definitely recommend this cottage.

  • "We were two couples and the cottage worked very well for us."

It was quiet and comfortable the bedrooms, kitchen and living area were lovely. We especially enjoyed the scones and appreciated the coffee, tea milk etc that were supplied. Just a couple of suggestions, a blind in the upstairs bathroom as the window faces out to the the main road and is in front of the bath. A couple of the dining chairs were a little wobbly and need fixing and the control on the shower was quite difficult to turn off. We had some lovely walks and it was great to be able to walk to lands End which was a mile down the road and therefore avoided the £7.50 parking charges. Sennen Cove was also close and we had a lovely couple of evening eating the best fish and chips whilst watching the sunset. We had 2 cars and parked one of them in the pub car park across the road which we felt safe to do. A great week and we would be happy to return.

We are glad that you had a good stay at Forge Cottage and were able to take advantage of some of the many walks the area has to offer. We thank you for your feedback. We will get maintenance to look at the heavy wooden dining room chairs and shower. We note your suggestion of the addition of a blind in the upstairs bathroom. For your peace of mind, the glass is heavily frosted/obscure and has a privacy rating of 5 (the highest available at the time of fitting). The window has also been “extensively modesty tested” by the owners before the cottage was made available for holidays. Property Owner

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, only bit of feedback although personal to us was couldn't fit the 5 of us in a room at once which was a shame so boys used upstairs a lot of an evening, mattress in downstairs bedroom was very hard in comparison to upstairs and not enough pans etc to use within the oven. Small issues really but did not detract from the holiday at all we had a great time

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a great holiday. The cottage was built in the 19th century so the rooms are smaller than more modern houses, but the larger downstairs reception room does seat 6 (2 seater, plus 3 seater sofa and a chair). The mattress choice is always difficult to gauge as it is personal preference - hence the 3 double rooms have different firmness to give guests a choice. Your comment about the ovenware is noted and we will look at supplementing the existing equipment. Property Owner

Sennen Cove is great for surfing. The property was well equipped and the conservatory area was a real bonus. The doors and ceilings in some parts of the house were low. So if you are tall then you need to watch your head. A wonderful place though and a great location.

  • "The cottage was as described and the bedroom layout worked well for us."

The boiler, which heats the water and the cottage, was very efficient and we were nice and warm, good for stormy days in Cornwall. The location worked well for exploring the west of Cornwall. The kitchen facilities are good, although it would have been useful to have more than 6 plates and cutlery as we found ourselves using the dishwasher when it wasn’t really full. The area that’s needs addressing is the downstairs shower. It is too small and the equipment within impedes movement. Two of the people staying here are average in size and found it too limiting to have a decent shower. The tap controlling the on/off switch of the shower was too stiff for one person to turn off.

Thank you for taking the time to send your comments regarding your stay at Forge Cottage. We are pleased to hear that you thought the facilities were good and the location worked well for exploring west Cornwall. It is disappointing that you had an issue with the size of the shower. The marketing shows the size as best as possible, although we do not give specific measurements, it is a standard corner shower, there is also a free standing bath with hand shower on the first floor. We do hope that this didn't spoil your stay and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

It is a beautiful cottage with three double bedrooms, all very tasteful and ample wardrobe space in all rooms. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need including a dishwasher and the utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer; useful on rainy days to dry off clothes. There is a cosy smaller lounge and also a dining room and additional larger sitting area leading out to a back yard with picnic tables. Located 5 minutes away from Cost cutter and a Fish and Chip shop and 2 mins from the First and Last Inn (mainly for a pizza or burger). It takes no more than 20 minutes to walk to Lands End in the road and 20 minutes to walk to Sennen Cove. We would definitely recommend staying here and will return one day. The bedrooms and living spaces were immaculate and well designed. The housekeeper was super- helpful and communicative - thank you so much Suzanne.Brilliant laundry facilities.Only two gripes: there were six adults and one (small) shower downstairs isn't enough. The upstairs bathroom is beautiful but the shower is capped off, which limits its use. This was mentioned in other posts as I recall, and is perhaps due to water pressure, but how about installing a pump? The fridge only has one shelf, which was inconvenient as we just had to pile the contents up. Having said that, I am very glad we booked this place.

It's in a great area to see the real Cornwall with great walks and beaches . The cottage itself was roomy and had a lot of extras that you may not always get. The kitchen had everything you could need and more. The washing and drying machine is a god send if you have kids who are always in the sea ! Three beautiful bedrooms. Great bathroom. Three Tv's, a shower room , sun room and garden. And the WIFI was good, which isn't always the case in the area. The personal touches like the flowers and cream tea etc made us feel at home. I would use this one again and would recommend it too.

  • "Overall the cottage was clean and comfortable with lovely extras - fresh flowers and toiletries."

These however seemed to be an attempt to cover up basic issues; water pressure upstairs poor and over bath shower didn’t work and no blind in the bathroom window. Whilst there are three large TVs in three adjacent rooms, you are not allowed to adjust the heating - which meant on cooler days the front lounge and upstairs rooms felt cold and damp (the preset thermostat is positioned in the warmest room of the house. Would recommend taking your own towels as those provided were small, marked/stained and did not smell fresh, new bed linen also needed as old and well worn. The listing should be updated to reference the low ceilings. The cottage is well positioned for exploring the far west, with easy access to everything.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the feedback following your stay at Forge Cottage. We have spoken with the owner, who was sorry to read your comments and would like to respond with the following: We kindly ask all our guests to inform us of any issues or difficulties they are experiencing during their stay and we will endeavor to rectify them as soon as possible. The low water pressure reported upstairs was investigated and found to be due to service works ongoing in the area at the time. The heating is set up for arrival on a general setting for convenience but the thermostat control is there for guests to adjust to their own comfort level (full instructions can be found in the folder for the operation of the heating). The thermostat is positioned in the dining room on the ground floor. This area is open plan with the kitchen and orangery but away from the multi-fuel burner in the front sitting room. The size of the towels at the cottage should be commensurate with the standard hotel size, we’re sorry you felt they were too small. However, despite the points raised, we do hope that the minor issues you encountered did not detract from the enjoyment of your holiday - even if the weather was not quite as warm as it could have been!' Even though the cottage is on the A30 it is right at the end so quite at night time. It was lovely to be able to walk to the beach and to lands end. The area is beautiful and Forge cottage is a lovely base from which to explore. Three lovely double bedrooms with lots of light coming in throughout the cottage. Great living space/outside space and the laundry facilities were excellent. Kitchen was well equipped for our needs. The dishwasher was out of action and had been for a while from the comments made in the visitors book. The two niggles were the upstairs bathroom which is equipped with an uncomfortable bath with a square knob to change from bath tap to hand shower which didn't seem to work properly and hurt your hand. Water pressure not good either and a full shower upstairs would have been good. Downstairs shower was good. I would have ticked excellent for comfort and facilities if it were not for this. The other small thing which could have been a problem is the outside wall of the parking area which slopes down to the ground. We nearly grounded our car on it twice and it looked like others had actually gone into it. Think it could cause some expensive damage to the underside of cars.

About the location

SENNEN

Land’s End 1 mile; St Just 5 miles; Penzance 9 miles.

The most westerly village in mainland Britain, Sennen has a lovely mile-long beach of pure white sand and is a very popular holiday destination. With excellent surfing conditions, the village has its own surf school – overlooked by a super-cool beach bar/restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows which make the most of the wonderful views. Once a hub of smuggling activity, Sennen still retains many secret passages – one of which is said to lead to the covered well in the Old Success Inn. Largely unchanged over time, this lovely village has a timeless appeal and is home to a gallery, a medieval church, an Iron Age fort and a small selection of shops where you can buy beachware, gifts and souvenirs, and a range of groceries. There is also a weekly Farmers’ Market in the village Community Centre each Tuesday morning. During the summer, the beach bar becomes a hub of activity and entertainment, with live music, weekly barbecues and popular surfing competitions.
