  • "Firstly, The cottage was not cleaned although it had clean linen and towels."

1.There was the smell of the previous guests fried bacon throughout the whole house for several days. I had to clean the cooker top twice to remove the grease. 2.There was no evidence that touch points in the kitchen had been wiped down with an anti-bac cleaner (I understood that Sykes Cottages had recommended Covid 19 cleaning standards) as several of the kitchen cupboard handles had grease and finger marks around the handles. I doubt anywhere else had been wiped down i.e.: bannisters, tv remote etc 3. The shower was a smeary mess with a limited attempt to wipe it down and had plenty of black mould growth on the grouting etc. 4. There was a thick layer of dust under the bedside lights. Nobody had dusted the tops of the bedside cabinets for months if not since 2019. I left a list of 17 cleaning faults on the kitchen table as we left. I think this cottage is managed by a company and I wonder if the owners know what a poor job they do. The cottage is well equiped but is now getting tired and tatty. It looks neglected from the outside. Secondly, the 'paid for safe parking' for this cottage, which is on the busy road into Padstow, is described as 'opposite'. This is not true. Opposite the cottage is an old working dairy farm with milking parlour. The smell of cow manure and flies permeate outside the front door and there is a lot of traffic noise. The parking is in fact 250 yards up the road, past the pub, past the bus shelter and turn right into Glebe Crescent, then immediate right into the church car park. OK for us but a less able person or a family with small children would find it inconvenient. Please change your description so others are not mis-informed.

I am extremely surprised at these comments, and the reason for this is the text I received as the customer left the cottage and I quote verbatim: "Hi Karen. Enjoyed our stay at Sunflower Cottage, St Issey. Couple of things to mention. Air freshener gadget in bathroom beeping on Friday, so removed batteries, which we guess need replacing. Almost drove away with parking permit but remembered in time and placed in the letter box, so you will find it there. Regards, Jim and Gill L." My response "So glad you enjoyed your stay....thank you for the information will let my cleaner know Karen" My cleaner was also surprised to see the website comments as she had read the comments in the guest book "Good location for walking the SWC path. Food at Ring 'o Bells and Quarryman also good. Good weather great for the time of year but too many people making it busy hey ho. " Neither of these appeared to lend itself to a negative website comment especially as neither Sykes or myself had been contacted. Had Sykes or myself had been contacted with the issues, my lovely cleaner (not a company) would have happily returned to the cottage and rectified any problems (this is clearly stated in plain view on a notice above the kitchen bin, we put it there as the assumption the bin would be an item used.). My cleaner has notified me that she is extremely devastated and upset by the comments, (which she could have rectified if given the chance and if they were accurate of course). She assures me she has thoroughly cleaned the cottage after every visitor since 2019 and the 15 years before. For clarity my cleaner follows all Sykes cleaning recommendations as a minimum and in 17 years has only had to return twice; once she forgot to take the laundry home, the second time, she remembered she hadn't left towels. The outside of the house was newly painted in 2019 and I am at a loss to respond. Many of the photographs on the website were taken this year and are accurate. I have requested that Sykes visit my cottage to confirm what they believe is 'tired and dated'. The grouting is refreshed annually and was done in April this year. I am not sure how to respond to 'paid for safe parking' as I don't know whether you are implying it's not paid for (I can assure you it is) or that it is not safe - again I can assure you it is. I have asked that directions to the church are updated, however the church is on the opposite side of the road and clearly visible (My neighbour has confirmed that there are no obstructions to obscure the church). We have never had an issue with finding the church car park before. It will now say 'diagonally' opposite. I will also on my next visit calculate the actual distance as 250yds seems excessive. Since COVID 19 it has been widely publicised in the press and social media that the number of visitors has increased enormously in Cornwall, and with that traffic and traffic noise has increased by default. Unfortunately, I have no way of personally changing this. I have asked Sykes to update the web page to reflect your comments that 'the cottage is diagonally opposite a working dairy farm and such it must be noted that cow smells and noise may occasionally occur during milking. • "A lovely cottage to stay at , a great location centred between Padstow and Wadebridge."

Although a car is essential for getting about .

  • "Lovely cottage but could have used a mop as the floors were quite dirty and sticky."

Parking is not really on site as the garage could not hold anything bigger than a seventies mini. One of the stools was missing the top but it probably went unnoticed as the previous occupier must have just put it back and left it. Otherwise everthing as qdvertised and expected.

Thank you for your feedback, and we are glad to hear that you loved the cottage. I have checked with our cleaner and she has assured me she swept and mopped the floor; however, she is always happy to return if there is a problem, so next time please do not hesitate to contact us or Sykes for any concern . We do advertise the property as having a small garage, however next time if you are worried that your car would not fit please contact Sykes before making the booking so that we can provide with the accurate measures. We don't have any stools so we are confused about this comment? However again thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you back soon. Property Owner

Great location & very handy for Padstow & The Camel Trail. Parking anything bigger than a mini in the garage is virtually impossible, but there is roadside parking nearby. The cottage is large and very comfortable & has everything you could need.

No bin bags left for our last day and instructions for the bin collections were unclear.
