  • "We could not fault this property."

Everything needed was provided and the view from the lounge was a delight. Some slight signs of wear and tear were evident but to be expected in a well used property. We could not agree with the negative comments posted by some previous occupants. We are a well travelled couple and are used to a good standard of accommodation. This did not disappoint.

The sofa and armchair coverings need cleaning There was no toilet roll in either toilet The large frying pan is not clean to use No washing up liquid or washing liquid 3 teabags and no coffee Condiments for cooking only salt pepper and a tiny bit of oil The fridge is noisy The carpet could do with cleaning Now in a house in Salcombe which is completely the opposite in how house keeping have looked after the property With everything necessary provided and in good order I think house keeping are letting the property down I've rented this cottage before and this time it felt that the minimum of care was taken how much to leave a toilet roll in each bathroom

I am so sorry that you felt this and we will sort it all asap. The season has been long and busy so everything is being revamped and deep cleaned in the next couple weeks. I am so sorry that there was no washing up liquid and loo roll, this must have been an over sight and I assure, if you do decide to come again, things will have improved hugely. Many thanks and once again, huge apologies. Property Owner

The bedding and towels are very good quality and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen is small and generally well equipped however it looks a bit tired and would benefit from a refresh. A larger teapot would be welcome. The outside space is in need of attention , lots of neglected plants and weeds spoils what would be a lovely spot. There were no pegs to dry swimming gear etc. We have booked for next year and look forward to seeing the suggestions above being considered .

Thank you for your review and we are so glad you like the cottage! Please be assured that we will sort all the things you have mentioned asap. Hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "What a view!"

The main living room is comfortable and the closeness to the sea is spectacular. Thank you for the lovely flowers! The rear terraces are delightful! As for location - probably the best in St Mawes for ease of nipping to the shops, the ferries, a cafe, bar or restaurant. We loved the walk up to St Just in Roseland but the walk using Place ferry and around St Anthony’s head to Towan beach and Thirstea cafe was our best ever! Fabulous (chilly) swims too - would recommend Tavern beach in St Mawes. The cottage has a small kitchen and although some of the pans have seen better days, had most things we needed to cook with. The main bathroom was hard to shower in without a shower screen and the twin bedroom felt a bit like a cave (we were unable to open the shutters) but all made up for by the living space . We have already booked for next year! Could we request a new frying pan that is non stick? My fried eggs were scrambled!!

So glad you loved the cottage and that you have booked again! We certainly check the frying pan. Re: the shutters, so sorry you had a problem opening them. We will take a look x Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week staying at Pier Cottage."

The property itself is in a central position close to the quay area in St Mawes with fabulous views across the harbour towards the St Anthony peninsula. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and we felt fortunate to have the amazing, ever changing views across the water. We loved staying in St Mawes with its friendly atmosphere and a great selection of local shops which cater for most needs without having to head to a major town for a supermarket. There are also some lovely places to eat out in the village. We were blessed with good weather during our stay and were able to take advantage of the great walks and beaches in the surrounding Roseland area. We were so impressed with the cottage and St Mawes that we have already booked again for next year!

So glad that you enjoyed your stay! Many thanks and hope so see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Cottage is close to all amenities in St Mawes - just a short walk away."

Comfortable beds and living/dining area upstairs offers wonderful views of the harbour and sea - always something going on. Unfortunately the bathing facilities let this cottage down; the main bathroom with hand held shower and en suite shower room to main bedroom did not offer anything like enough power in order to have a decent shower / rinse off soap / wash hair etc. The en suite shower had to be kept on Eco in order to offer consistent warm water (water not hot which at this time of year was inadequate). On High the water was intermittently scalding hot or cold. The main bathroom would benefit from a shower screen or shower curtain in order to be able to shower properly - again, no power to the shower. We have stayed in Pier cottage previously and hoped improvements to the bathrooms had been made, unfortunately not. Shame as other improvements are great and the cottage has everything needed for a great week away in a fabulous place - St Mawes. Above being said, we enjoyed our week but are unlikely to book again unless the bathing facilities are improved. Presumably this us why the cottage is 3 stars?

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage and its location. We are aware of some issues with the hand held shower in the bathroom, this is due to low water pressure in the property. A shower screen has been fitted in the main bathroom. The shower in the ensuite is due to be replaced in July. We are glad that you had a good time and enjoyed your week in St Mawes and would love to welcome you back again at a future date. The only real downside is if you have a dog like ours who will not 'go' on the patio, there is nowhere in the courtyard for them to do their business, so late night walks before bed were required - and there are not many grassy areas in St Mawes either.

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week at St Mawes, the location of the property was wonderful…we enjoyed breakfast direct from the bakery, so fresh!"

Pier Cottage is very comfortable and equipped to fulfill our needs. The lateness of availability (5.30) and the early hour of departure (9.00) were disappointing, as it was to find clothing and other items left by previous guests in drawers that were gritty with sand and dust inside. Other than that, we would recommend the property to others, especially if you like a comfy bed!

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and were able to sample the delights from the local bakery. St Mawes is a lovely location, with good restaurants, shops and galleries. We wanted you to know that the check-in time has now been changed from 5.30pm to 3pm. Had we been made aware of the items of clothing and the dust and sand you found in the drawers during your stay, we would have asked our housekeeper to rectify these issues whilst you were at the property. Aside from this we do hope that we might be able to welcome you back in the not too distant future. Property Owner

If you keep properties to a high spec then it is most likely people will take greater care of looking after it while they are there. Your Pier Cottage sign outside the property could also be replaced, not good for your image. I hope you find this helpful Paul

Thank you for your feedback. We realise that the cottage needs an update and will be doing a full repaint and new carpet upstairs as well as new windows and doors throughout this December. Just a week before our holiday after waiting on hold for nearly two hours we got through to you. You told us we could not cancel the holiday . We could not afford to loose our money . My poor husband had to go to work due to COVID and could no longer take time off ,my handicapped son could not come because of isolation . So my husband drove me and my daughter and friend 9 hours had to return for work another nine hours and come back nine hours on the Friday to pick us up and take us home to get back for work . Poor man . But allowed us to holiday and not loose our money . The cottage was in a wonderful position views beautiful and comfy home. But it it lacked TLC in places . If the owner only put these things right it would Make a massive difference . Needs painting ,damp patches ,some furniture Looked grubby .A couple of bits in the kitchen need updating . We had lovely weather and st maws is beautiful. It made up for all the stress we had before we came even though my husband didn’t benefit from this .

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are so pleased that you loved the position of the cottage with its beautiful views and that you found it so comfortable. Thank you for highlighting some of the issues you encountered. We’d like to let you know that we have contacted the owner who has assured us that she will attend to each of the points that you have raised. The property is due to be repainted but unfortunately due to the difficult situation this year it has had to be delayed. We do apologise for the difficulty you experienced in trying to contact us to cancel your holiday and the long drive that your husband then had to make. We have experienced an extremely high demand and are sorry that you had such a frustrating time. We do hope to welcome you back next year when hopefully things are more settled. Property Owner

Walked from the cottage so didn’t even take the car out for 5 days. Interesting last night with the arrival of Storm Callum with the waves surging up the alley and reaching the lounge window. Friendly village with all the amenities you need including a butchers. Watch House food on our last night was amazing. Carne & Towan beach great for dogs when the tide is out. Took the ferry to Place & Falmouth which extended the option for walks as well. St Mawes hotel next door was very convenient & they have a hidden cinema which you need to book. Staff were really friendly. Overall great place lucky with the weather at this time of year as shorts all week. Oh & one of the machines in the car park now takes cards which is much more handy. A weeks parking was £30 so you need a lot of coins if the card machine is not working but i think good value.

For us it was most convenient to pay £6 for 24hours each day on local car park, you can pay £30 for a week, but you need that much cash for machine as there is not a card pay option! Outside the front door you can use 30 min park between 8am - 6pm or single yellow parking 6pm - 10am.. but it has to be said often in use. But you soon get used to the parking shuffle and car park is less than 5min walk. Although dog friendly accommodation, the town is less so for dog walking. You can use small beach in harbour at low tide and car park field below castle (payment machine not in use May 2018). Neither the recreation ground nor beaches allow dogs. Brilliant dog friendly beach at Porthcurin with excellent Hidden Hut cafe... parking on very steep hill down to beach. Recycling in car park, doesn't do plastic containers, only bottles.

St Mawes is a small fishing village situated on the Roseland Peninsula, part of Cornwall’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush countryside and has a notable historic castle guarding the entrance to the River Fal. Nearby there are plenty of activities to keep the whole family busy including walks, watersports and boat trips. Across from the harbour is the town of Falmouth, with its magnificent natural harbour (the third largest in the world), winding streets and beaches, the amenities will keep you occupied for hours.
