"This is a sweet cottage and, if you don't mind crouching in parts of the house, a lovely place for a stay."
However, it felt a bit functional and 'unloved'. The furniture in the sitting room wasn't particularly comfortable; the bedrooms had no heating and were cold and, despite feedback being left about the need to demarcate the step in the kitchen, it hasn't been done and my friend had an accident. A bit more tlc and this would be a lovely cottage in a beautiful, quiet location.
Thank you for your feedback. We have made some changes in the living room including replacing some furniture. The step between the kitchen and the dining room is also more visible. The heating system throughout the cottage (including in the bedrooms) is electric night storage heaters and these are left on over the winter season so the cottage is warm for guests. We have an additional oil filled radiator if extra heating is needed. If help with working the heating system is needed please contact our housekeeper who is always willing to visit the cottage to show guests how to make adjustments. We're glad you found the cottage a lovely place for a stay.

"The cottage was lovely, it was in a nice location with nice views of Tintagel & the sea."
The only draw back was the very steep staircase of which my mother in law coud'nt get up stairs as there was no hand rail, also we found the step up & down in the different levels of the cottage quite awkward as there were no indications of where the steps was. Maybe a bright piece of tape would have been better to show where the steps where. We still enjoyed the holliday very much though. Thankyou!
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry that your mother in law found the staircase too steep. We've added some tape to the stair between the kitchen and dining room to help make that step more visible. We're glad you found the cottage lovely and enjoyed your stay there.

"A lovely, clean, well equipped cottage set in a quiet and attractive hamlet."
An easy 700 yard walk down a quiet country lane to Tintagel. The cottage is quirky and full of character, which we liked. The only slight drawback with this property, as stated in the details, is the lounge ceiling is low (we think up to 5ft 10/11inch clearance). Entrance through the front door, into the kitchen and to the stairs were also low. This was not a problem for us, despite being taller. Plenty of head height in kitchen, dining room, bathroom and both bedrooms.
Flat garden with views of the sea and Tintagel. Large patio and parking for two medium sized cars, which we appreciated with the lack of parking in other properties.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend Ivy Cottage.
Thank you for your positive feedback. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay in the cottage and look forward welcoming you back in the future

Beautiful cottage in a lovely area
but did need a dusting cobwebs with spiders in were in every room, the bathroom needed a clean dirt and hairs found and when striping beds (which I’ve never be asked to do before) duvets had stains on
Thank you for your feedback. We've done an extended clean and hopefully will remain on top of cobwebs. The stripping of beds was introduced during Covid times for health and safety reasons, in response to your feedback we no longer ask guests to strip beds.

"On the whole we were disappointed with ivy cottage."
The zip and link bed was uncomfortable, needs a good quality mattress topper for better comfort. The whole place was full of cobwebs, the room where the freezer was kept was smelly, needs a more thorough clean through out, could not sit and enjoy the sea view because there was no decent garden furniture, the 2 folding chairs where dirty, had to use the metal ones which are no good for relaxing on.Had to keep dog on lead due to hedge being cut low in parts as he could run and drop into neighbours garden.Been to far better cottages over the years. Not worth the money and wont be returning.
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We're really sorry to hear you were so disappointed with your stay. For ease and clarity we'll respond to each point individually.
1. Zip and link beds - the mattresses on these are less than 3 years old and as other feedback has been positive about comfort of beds we're not sure how we can make improvements. We will monitor this.
2. Cobwebs - the cottage is an old stone and cob built cottage surrounded by farm land and country. Cobwebs get cleaned and very quickly reappear. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get rid of spiders. Any at the cottage are small and they do prey on flies and other small insects which is helpful.
3. Freezer store room - we are very short of storage at the cottage so have chosen not to have a tall fridge freezer but an under counter fridge and separate freezer. Because of lack of space the chest freezer is in the store room. It's not ideal but seemed the best of a difficult challenge. The storage room had a problem with water penetration last winter which has been dealt with. There may be a lingering musty smell which will lessen over time but will probably never completely go because of the way the cottage has been built.
4. Sea views - we understand this issue completely and will look into putting a bench on the grass next season so the sunsets can be more comfortably enjoyed.
5. Low stone walls - the stone wall facing the sea is low to gain maximum benefit of the stunning views. We will supply a long lead in due course, for customers with dogs that might be tempted to climb. We put our terrier on a long lead and she's fine with that.
We trust this has answered the issues you raise. Once again we're very sorry that your experience at Ivy Cottage didn't match up to your expectations. We aim to provide as high a quality experience as possible within the limitations of a cottage of this age and size. Wishing you well
UPDATE - December 2024 - we now have a bench in the garden for guests to enjoy the wonderful views. Guests are also very welcome to move garden chairs from the patio area to the garden to enjoy the views. We've made some changes to the dry stone walls but if guests have a dog that is very inquisitive and a climber then keeping them on a lead will keep them safer. We use the cement parasol base and a training lead for our dog; both of which are available for guests use.

"Cottage was beautifully restored, decorated and furnished."
It had parking on site and a good enclosed garden. Being an old cottage it was out to ‘get’ you. Many low doorways on which to bang your head. The narrow twisting staircase was difficult. The kitchen steps were not easy to see but easy to fall down. A shower would have been preferable to the high sided bath. It would suit smaller than average, fit, adventurous people.
Thank you for your helpful feedback.

"Perfect location, lovely cottage for 3 of us."
As expected with an old property the beams are low but once we got used to that we were fine. Comfy beds, great kitchen and bathroom and nice welcome touch when we arrived. Would definitely recommend and hopefully stay again. The view from the garden of the sunset dipping into the sea was magical.
We're so glad you found Ivy Cottage comfortable and the location perfect for your stay in Cornwall. The sunset is definitely magical. We hope to welcome you back if you visit this part of Cornwall again. All the best.

"Lovely old cottage."
Served our needs, was very clean and welcoming. The garden is so pretty with a great view of the sea although the drop was a little nerve wracking to start with for the dog but he learned to keep away from that.
Thank you for your positive feedback. We're so pleased to hear you found Ivy Cottage clean and welcoming and the garden a wonderful space to sit and enjoy the amazing sea views.
We've put solar lights at intervals along the drop, we hope they act as a deterrent and provide some protection. Wishing you all the best.

"Lovely property, with garden and parking, larger than we expected, comfy bed, the best linen."
Can’t fault it. We hit our heads a few times on the low doorways! But that’s due to us forgetting to duck! There are notices. As a bonus we had the most perfect weather for exploring this beautiful part of Cornwall.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We're so glad you enjoyed our lovely cottage and found it comfortable. Best wishes to you and your family.
