We enjoyed our 2 weeks. The only thing I would suggest to the property owners is perhaps the single beds downstairs could benefit from new mattresses. The view from the balcony is amazing and would love to come back ( if there were new mattresses

This week was our third and we didn’t have to call him once. It is a good comfortable and warm space. The position is very exposed to weather and I guess there are problems for the owners in maintaining such a property. But it’s also exposed to wonderful views of the sea and sky. We hope to be back soon, with our 2 dogs.

  • "The worst house we have stayed at in the UK, but the best view we have experienced from a property."

Not as described, looks more like a former youth hostel than a 'cottage'. Awful smell of damp permiates downstairs, most windows are sealed shut there, so you can't relieve that. Upstairs nice lounge area and balcony with view. Carpets mouldy and blackened at the edges, new style flooring in bedroom not stuck down properly, so moves when you walk and pinches your toes if barefoot, skirting boards bending from walls lumps out of plaster on walls, awful mattresses (our son had to pile two up in the second bedroom to get comfortable), refurbished bathroom upstairs but water pressure is such that it takes around 50 mins (NO exaggeration ) to run a bath half full of hot water, by which time the water is luke warm. Description of garden is hilarious as it looks overgrown and unmaintained. Parking very tricky but you learn to adapt. Very helpful caretaker and place kept clean but sofa could do with a professional wash. Needs substantial investment to refurb to level of other holiday lets in area, but I suppose if the owners can command in excess of £200 a night in mid season and be fully booked (due to the view) then who am I to comment of business model? We would not visit again or recommend it to friends. We spent under half the amount for the previous week, just down the road, great place, but no sea to view!

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that you were unhappy with certain aspects of the property during your stay. This is a very old, quirky Cornish granite built coastal property, located on a cliff hence the fantastic views but like all coastal properties it is affected by damp weather. The carpets are cleaned on a regular basis but they are not mouldy and the flooring in the bedroom you mention is slightly uneven due to the insulation underneath and is covered by a rug. I hope you can appreciate that due to the age of the property not all skirting boards are flush with the walls and we do acknowledge that although the shower is fine it does take a while to run a full bath. The mattresses are only a year old and are personal preference and there is a parking space which we are sorry to hear that you found tricky to park in. The lawns are cut on a regular basis but the flower beds have been a little over grown recently, during the rainy period that we have been experiencing. Again we thank you for your comments and hope that you can read the many positive feedback that we have received this year with some guests returning for a 5th time. Property Owner

  • "The positive of the property is the location."

.. beautiful views. Great for walking to Sennen Cove and very close to coastal path. The lounge is comfortable, WiFi is good and large non digital TV which is complex to operate which requires a satellite decoder to watch TV. It was clean but did smell, this was put right with air freshener, smelly stuff. It was warm. The negatives.... I would be disappointed if I had paid full price for this house. The interior... Downstairs is ok - basic, the carpet in the hall to the downstairs bedroom needs replacing it is very shabby. Kitchen is ok. The lounge which is upstairs is comfortable. The balcony outside needs a lot of work, needs refurbishment but has spectacular seaviews. Our bedroom floor was very bouncy, there were gaps where it meets the skirting and some areas of the laminate flooring was split. I was assured that the floor was safe. It needs replacing. The patio door to balcony doesn't lock. Bed was comfortable. Exterior Needs an awful lot of money spent on this property and the properties next to it. A complex I think. If the properties was painted / rendered... flowers, plants etc. It needs looking after properly... the property / complex is extremely run down and does need revamping. We made the most of the views and location. Recent photos of the outside and complex should be on the website so future customers are aware and not disappointed when they arrive.

Views amazing. Cottage worked well as a summer base with six adults and two dogs. Might struggle with space if not able to venture out. Kitchen very well furnished with amenities, large fridge/freezer not in amenities list. Caretaker was extremely helpful. Just felt property was a bit tired looking and needs bit of a freshen up. Dishwasher on/off button bit temperamental. Carpets and furniture bit grubby. Could do with more outdoor furniture on balcony. That being said had a wonderful week and would definitely stay again.

There was nowhere to hang wet towels, or laundry that is unsuitable for tumble dryer. No chair in bedrooms. We did contact the caretaker and he responded very quickly with an airier and a freestanding towel rail for each shower room. It wasn’t very clear what could be recycled and which outdoor bin took refuse. We were however comfortable (2 people and 2 dogs) and I appreciated the foot stool. The property has beautiful views and there are walks from it. The garden area is not enclosed. It may need more seating to accommodate more people - in the living room, and there were only 2 seats on the balcony. Overall we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the quick responses from Jason, who also helped with the cooker hob.

  • "We enjoyed the break and could book The Coach House again."

The place was spotlessly clean and very well presented. - Upstairs single beds are very uncomfortable. Need better mattresses. Cannot comments on the comfort of the downstairs beds. - We were four people and the lounge furniture met our needs. However, as the property sleeps six. there needs to be a re-think of an additional settee or armchairs. - The heating controls are very unclear and not user-friendly. The instructions left by the key-holder are totally inadequate. I spent far too much time trying to get it to work when we stayed in. - The mirror in the double bedroom en-suite has been affixed to the wall trapping the over-basin pull light cord. The light cannot be used. It’s not a simple case of pulling it free. - The outside tap is broken. Dirty footwear and dog need cleaning outside. - Sykes book-out time on the day of departure is not the same as that displayed in the property. Departing at 1000/1030 is a comfortable time. Having to depart by 0930 is a pressured rush. This is not a rant, but points that need addressing to make fee paying visitors feel that they are getting value.

  • "We needed accommodation and booked very late."

I understand that Covid is making things difficult, but on arrival, we were met by a wall of disinfectant smell (smelled more like flyspray) throughout the house. There seemed not to have been enough time between cleaning and arrival. It was really unpleasant and not a great start. The smell persisted for at least 24 hours. Perhaps you should be staggering arrivals and not one out one in on the same day. Or using better cleaning methods/products. The accommodation looked poor from the external photo, but the photos of the interior were good. However, our expectations were not met. The whole enterprise was basic - looked a lot better in the photos, but everything was cheap and disappointing - construction, materials, cutlery, glasses, bedding etc. The carpets and sofas felt tacky and we not comfortable without shoes. The tv didnt work - we notified the caretaker immediately but it wasnt fixed for 3 days, and for a rainy break in september with dark evenings, that was not good enough. Instructions for the use of the property were emailed to us but we couldnt open them on our phones. We asked, but never got a printed copy. It was more like student accommodation. It looked like a party house - Im sure its perfect for a gang of surfers, for partying, drinking and crashing, but it didnt suit us. The description traded on the sea/sunset view which was great, but it was let down by everything else. We will not book through Sykes again.

It is spacious, comfortable, and clean, and of course the sea views are superb. Access to beach and cliff walks were on our doorstep, and it made a good centre from which to get to Pendeen, St. Just, Porthgwarra, Mousehole, and Penzance. We thought it was fair value for the price. Our only problem was initially discovering how to work the hob and ovens, never before having encountered a digital touch-button display, and a manual would have been helpful. The mattress springs 'donged' on movement and there was a hard line down the middle of the double bed. I had to use spare duvets to try to improve it. The other beds not much better. Glad to get back home to my own bed. - The en-suite shower was either tepid or boiling hot. - Downstairs toilet main part was cracked. - Very flimsy plastic toilet seats unable to sit on them. - Oven, cracked handle and possibly on it's way out listening to the noise of the fan. - Radiators not working in kitchen and entrance room, thermostat in the kitchen. He said he would get a plumber out the following day but I had my reservations due to it being Christmas week and of-course he never turned up. We had to make do with a single electric fan heater which was ok when were altogether in the sitting room. What this meant was that it was cold at night and all the towels were damp. The toilet in the en-suite also leaked. The spectacular view made up for the disappointing accommodation.

About the location

SENNEN

Land’s End 1 mile; St Just 5 miles; Penzance 9 miles.

The most westerly village in mainland Britain, Sennen has a lovely mile-long beach of pure white sand and is a very popular holiday destination. With excellent surfing conditions, the village has its own surf school – overlooked by a super-cool beach bar/restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows which make the most of the wonderful views. Once a hub of smuggling activity, Sennen still retains many secret passages – one of which is said to lead to the covered well in the Old Success Inn. Largely unchanged over time, this lovely village has a timeless appeal and is home to a gallery, a medieval church, an Iron Age fort and a small selection of shops where you can buy beachware, gifts and souvenirs, and a range of groceries. There is also a weekly Farmers’ Market in the village Community Centre each Tuesday morning. During the summer, the beach bar becomes a hub of activity and entertainment, with live music, weekly barbecues and popular surfing competitions.
