  • "Lovely little cottage."

Nice and cosy and we had a brilliant Christmas Day in Weir cottage. It was nicely decorated with a tree and decor. Great location to walk into Bourton-on-the-Water along the water path in less than 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for this lovely review. We're so glad you had such an enjoyable Christmas at Weir Cottage and loved the location too. We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

the only thing I would say is there was no walk in shower also no Sky TV and no TV in bedroom every cottage we have stayed at they have these facilities other than that it was very good

  • "Anything negative is just the way that it is with an older building and proximity to the road."

A couple of the rooms were under used due to the low ceilings and my 6 foot height. The busyness of the road was tolerable during the day but at night kids were doing figure 8s in the Birdland parking lot. I thought I was back in Atlanta. But the proximity to shops and hiking were outstanding and we left the rental car parked all week. It was hot early in our stay but cool inside with the windows open.

  • "Great cottage and very well located for the village and travel to surrounding areas."

Fantastic to have parking and a beautiful outdoor space. The cottage had everything we needed and lots of information. Very comfortable especially the beds and good quality linen. Walking distance to a great bakery for morning pastries and numerous pubs, bars and eateries for the rest of the day. Large supermarket a short walk away. Dial house for a special occasion. Would recommend a stay here.

The cottage is well situated with access to shops, cafes and restaurants only a 5 minute walk away and secure off road parking also being very beneficial. (The local Coop was also just round the corner.)The only thing I would say is as it is situated on the main road through the village the traffic noise can be heard when sitting outside and at night but it didn’t stop as from sleeping. Overall we had a lovely week and would recommend the cottage for couples and families.

Brilliant, you had a lovely week in Weir Cottage with the shops and cafe nearby. Pleased to hear the village traffic was not a disturbance for you. We appreciate your feedback and the recommendation. Best Wishes Character Cottages. Property Owner

  • "What an incredible and quintessentially Cotswold cottage, could not have asked for a better location or more perfect spot to enjoy Bourton on the Water."

The owner actually greeted us and gave us a bit of history. The cottage was built by her grandfather who, in fact, was also the builder of the Bourton on the Water Model Village, an easy three minute walk from the cottage. Having a clothes washer and dryer was so helpful and the solarium and two patios were perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring The Cotswolds! Five star experience!

Fabulous you had a great stay in the cottage and loved the location. So pleased you enjoyed the background history of the property and Bourton on the Water. Glad you made use of the patios to relax after a long day. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Best Wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay at weir cottage ."

For the price we paid didn’t think it was value for money . The welcome pack was a bit mean a bottle of Prosecco & 1 pint of milk . The cleanliness was very poor cobwebs were everywhere and not just been there over night they’ve been there a long time ,above main bedroom window there was massive cobwebs also behind the drawers in the hall were disgusting not been cleaned in a long time . Skirting boards were dirty behind the drawers ,in the other bedroom there was mould and cobwebs behind bedside drawers. It was in need of a good clean . It says in the welcome pack you get kitchen roll there wasn’t any , 3 dish towels we only got 1 for a weeks stay , no bin bags to change the bin.. The shower was terrible no power it took about 10 mins to get the correct temperature. Shower rail comes away from the wall . I’m well aware it’s an old cottage but that doesn’t mean a decent shower can’t be put in also there’s no excuse for the cleanliness. I’m not sure if the owner checks the cleaning of the cottage I would recommend they do as it’s such a shame as it was a nice cottage just needs some attention.

A lovely cottage with everything and more we could need for a weeks stay. The perfect position to explore wonderful Bourton-on-the-Water. Our only slight niggle was that we found the bed (main room) a bit uncomfortable(could feel the springs). However, we wouldn't hesitate to rate this 5☆ and hope to return one day.

Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance, as well as plenty more a short drive away. Highly recommend a circular walk also from the front door to Naunton and back through the Slaughters - brilliant! The accommodation itself is lovely and authentic but with some modern touches - we felt at home straight away! We stopped as just a couple but plenty of room for two couples or a small family comfortably. We didn’t need much help from the owner but they were very helpful when we released we had left some stuff behind so full marks there too!

The property

Weir Cottage is a lovely Cotswold stone cottage, right in the heart of beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water, the "Venice of the Cotswolds".

This character filled property is ideal for friends and families seeking a relaxing holiday in the lovely Cotswolds region.

A highly sought-after gravel driveway with space for up to three small cars welcomes you on arrival before you enter the front door and into the reception hall which has low ceilings and is ideal for storing coats and muddy boots.

The sitting room has been designed for relaxation, with ample seating for you to unwind on in front of a toasty open fire and catch up on your favourite show on the flatscreen TV.

The chef of the group will have a great time rustling up the evening meal in the well-equipped, spacious kitchen which has everything you will need during your stay, before you all move into the connecting conservatory which houses a wooden dining table and leads out to the peaceful patio garden, where you have the choice to dine alfresco, which has a lovely lawn area with surrounding plants and flowers.

In the evening, head up the stairs which cover a small hallway containing a tumble dryer, and choose from one of the two lovely bedrooms in the eaves of the cottage; the master contains a king-size bed and the second bedroom which contains super-king-size can be a twin on request.

Once you’ve got some well-earned rest for the night, head to the tastefully decorated bathroom, to enjoy a relaxing bathe in the large, welcoming bath which is accessed up a small step and is the feature of the room, before heading downstairs to make yourself an awakening coffee using the Nespresso coffee machine.

No more queues for the bathroom, as the first floor houses a convenient cloakroom containing a basin and WC.

A short stroll from your front door you will find a wealth of attractions and shops, restaurants and tea rooms, such as Cotswolds Antiques and Tea Room and Coach & Horses pub in the lovely centre of Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the “Venice of the Cotswolds” as well as Birdland Park and Gardens which is just outside your door, where you can surround yourself by wildlife.

Nearby Lower Slaughter is widely regarded as one of England's most beautiful villages with picturesque cottages lineng the banks of the River Eye which flows from Upper Slaughter through Lower Slaughter, home to The Slaughters Country Inn which is a well-regarded, quintessential country inn, offering lovely food and drinks.

Stow-on-the-Wold is the highest of the Cotswold villages, and is a small market town with an array of boutique shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants; you can visit the Fosse Gallery to admire an array of contemporary British art, indulge in a bite to eat and drinks at The Stag at Stow, or revel in the scrumptious tea and cakes at The Old Bakery Tea Room.

About the location

Stow-on-the-Wold 4 miles; Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Chipping Norton 13 miles; Cheltenham 15.5 miles.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds. Tradition states that an annual football match is played in the summer, in the River Windrush with the banks lined with spectators, with the aim to score as many goals as possible and get as wet as possible! The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. Nearby, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises traditional England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antiques shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Also take a visit to the medieval town of Burford for a great day out where you can enjoy a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are both within easy reach and make a great day out. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.
