Lovely stay - Little bit of luxury for a week

Wonderful does not even cover how good this property is and our hosts Agnes and Chris could not have been more welcoming.
The attention to detail and luxurious fittings made this property stand out above others. On entering we were given a starter hamper and a full run through of how everything operated. The location over looking their field and out towards the Lion on the hill at Whipsnade Zoo allowed you to settle down in complete silence. Nice touch was the automatic lighting that came on when you approached the property or moved around at night. Would we re-visit ? Most deffinetly if ever the area and will aslo strongly recommend it to any of our friends and family. Bravo Zulu to Agnes and Chris job well done. Ted & Heather Buckett
Thanks for the great feedback, we are blessed to live in an area of outstanding beauty. Due to the 200 year celebration of Whipsnade Zoo, the iconic white lion has been illuminated. It wil continue to do so every Wedneday evening until the end of this year. From the property you have the perfect spot to see this famous landmark of the 147 metre long lion silhouette and what a spectacle it is.
Booked it because it had a superking bed, which was super comfortable.
Beside this, the accommodation is perfectly situated with broad-reaching views being placed between the Ivinghoe Beacon (saw the full moon rise above it and a paraglider making an attempt) and the Whipsnade Lion rendered on the hillsidel in the 1930s. Foxes, rabbits, partridge and a wide variety of birds were seen in the fields adjoining. Best of all, there was a consistent cool breeze along the rear that made the property an absolute delight during hot weather.
The property is well set in Ivinghoe Aston as it is straight in front of Ivinghoe Beacon with outstanding views which are ininterrupted. It is all on one level with parking next to the entrance so access is easy. Plus all is within a gated area so it feels secure as you need a fob for access. Sun rises and sun sets are particulary beautiful as the views extend all around the property. Delighted you enjoy your stay. Thank you

Closefield is a lovely property - extremely comfortable, clean, well equipped and in a gorgeous location. There is lots to do in the area and you don't have to travel far to visit various National Trust places. We would definitely stay here again if visiting the area in future.

This cottage is ideal for anyone looking to discover the Chilterns.
We loved the peaceful patio it’s the perfect spot to sit back and take in the rolling countryside views. There is so much to see nearby; we particularly enjoyed the history at Bletchley Park and the ancient woodlands of Ashridge. For walkers, the trails to Ivinghoe Beacon offer some of the best views of the surrounding countryside. A truly lovely stay in a prime location.Thank you Chris and Agnes.

Had a lovely week at Closefield.
We had a warm welcome from the owners and they were on hand if we had any problems. Gave us lots of information about things to see and do in the local area. Large spacious property that was well equipped and clean. Good selection of books, jigsaws and information leaflets and maps. Good walking area. A very enjoyable week.

Closefield is a super property located at the foot of Ivinghoe Beacon and with panoramic views of the ridgeway out to Whipsnade and Dunstable Down in the distance.
Chris and Agnes were very welcoming hosts and the property was well appointed with all you needed for your stay, the generous welcome pack was greatly appreciated. There are several National trust properties nearby including the Ashridge Estate with it's many woodland walks. For those history buffs Bletchley Park is a short drive away or if nature is more your thing Tring Natural History Museum is worth a visit. There are walks from the doorstep but College Lake and the Tring Reservoirs are worth a visit. We couldn't fit in everything we wanted to do in a week so will definitely look to return in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at Closefield.
It was very comfortable , especially the bed. The hosts greeted us warmly and explained everything to us . There are lots of places to visit in the area , with Whipsnade zoo not too far away and Bletchley Park about 30 minutes away. We had good weather and enjoyed the lovely view from the cottage. It is a pleasure, please come back anytime. Whipsnade Zoo is 5- 10 minutes away by car and you can clearly see the chalked lion from the property.

Just returned home after our second visit to Closefield.
As stated in my previous review, this is a beautiful property in a stunning location. Immaculate inside and out, extremely comfortable with all the amenities you could wish for. Quiet and private with secure parking and easy access to surrounding villages and towns. Agnes and Chris are delightful hosts - they had even put up a beautifully lit Christmas tree for us - a lovely and extremely thoughtful surprise - and left a load of treats. Closefield is perfection - huge thanks folks - we will return.

Superb in every respect - we could not have asked for more during our wonderful stay.
Our hosts, Agnes and Chris, gave us a warm welcome with plenty of tips and advice regarding the local area. The property more than lived up to expectations - both in terms of facilities and décor along with its great location at the foot of Ivinghoe Beacon. Wonderful walks up onto the Beacon, around the Tring Reservoirs and around the College Lake Nature Reserve. A big bonus was its proximity to Bletchley Park - only a half-hour drive away. Definitely a five star property - and more!
Bletchley Park is a popular one with the guests. Not only does it have it's own history but the house and grounds are also spectacular.
Absolutely lovely place to stay felt right at home, amazing views and owners are amazing so helpful had have great recommendations on things to do and where to eat locally.
We cooked a lot of our stay and kitchen had everything we needed. Overall amazing time would 100% return.

The hosts were welcoming and informative.
We were shown around the accomodation and everything was explained clearly. We were very impressed right from the start with the quality and comfort. We felt safe and secure at all times and the views are exceptional. Parking excellent. Lots to do within a 1hr radius. Nice walks straight from the front door without needing the car. Thoroughly recommended.
Thanks for the response. The views are wonderful , and it seems no matter which time of the year it is always a picture. We are within a gated area so it is as safe as it can be and we have security. Ivinghoe Beacon sits in front of us so there are plenty of walks in every direction on the doorstep.
The property was lovely, well decorated and well looked after, looking so much bigger than the website shows.
Chris and Aggie were friendly and very welcoming on arrival and explained everything we needed to know about the cottage and places to go. Inside was warm and welcoming with the additional delight of a welcome hamper. The striking view could be seen from all the windows and the outside decking. All in all, we had a great time here and we will return at some point, fantastic home from home.

I recently stayed at Closefield with my mum for a well-deserved rest, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
From the peaceful setting to the thoughtful details, everything about our stay was just what we needed. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely hosts, Agnes and Chris, who immediately made us feel at home. Their kindness and hospitality really stood out, they clearly care about creating a relaxing, comfortable space for their guests. The property itself is immaculate: beautifully maintained, spotlessly clean, and surrounded by stunning countryside views. My mum especially loved the peaceful atmosphere, it gave us both a real sense of calm and the chance to properly unwind. If you want to get out and explore, Closefield is in a great location, with lovely walks and is ideal for anyone looking to recharge and reconnect with nature. I can’t recommend this place enough. Closefield is a spacious and beautifully presented property with an unbroken view of the surrounding countryside.
This afforded totally dark skies and gave us the pleasure of seeing several planets and constellations. The sunrise is mesmerising and we have never seen so many Buzzards so close up before. The owners, Agnes and Chris, were very helpful and provided us with a very generous welcome package and we can only thank them for allowing us to stay there.

Hi the property is always maintained and clean so thank you. for noting it. There are a lot of red kites in the Chilterns and we see them almost on a daily basis as well as other species of birds. College Lake is 10 miniutes away from us by car or bus and has an array of birds and wildlife and has a wonderful walk around it. Hope to see you again.

We have stayed in many cottages and this must be one of the best. Great position for the Zoo with a good view of the beacon at Ivanhoe Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in this area We will return in due course.

A beautiful home which is even better in real life than the photos portray!
Very comfortable, secure, and peaceful. Glorious views across the countryside. Totally quiet at night, even with the bedroom window open. Large bedroom with comfortable bed. (We had it made up as a superking double - lovely!) Excellent bathroom with roomy and very good shower. Kitchen/living area all well appointed and perfect for two. (Husband was in heaven with huge TV!) Owners live next door; they were friendly and helpful, but not at all intrusive.

Lovely spacious and very comfortable accommodation in a great location right at the foot of Ivinghoe Beacon and at the end of The Ridgeway National Trail.
We had everything we needed for our stay and were made very welcome. We even had same nice weather.
Hi There is a lot of historical connections in the area. The Ridgeway being one of Britain’s oldest roads, connecting the river Thames to the various ritual complexes of henges and circles of stone and wood at Avebury. Pilgrims followed this ancient route with hill forts, sacred springs, barrows, and Roman temples, that look over scenic villages, woods, and fields in valleys. So a bit of interest as well if you are into years gone by. As for the weather it can go either way. Thanks for the feedback.
Beautiful bungalow in a very tranquil and peaceful setting.
Big comfy bed, big bathroom with underfloor heating, kitchen has everything you need, and lovely open plan living area. Great views over to Ivinghoe Beacon. Very close to footpaths/bridlepaths, so plenty of options for walking/running.

This place is such a find!
We had planned a one-night stay at La Maison (Raymond Blanc's restaurant) to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and were looking to spend a few more days in the area, but wanted something that didn't feel too much of a come down after that. Closefield did not disappoint! Everything about it is top-end: the ample welcome pack, the luxurious bed, the comfortable sofas and mega TV, all capped with a magnificent view across open fields to the Ivinghoe Beacon. Plenty of things to do in the area too, so a wonderful place for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. And a word too for hosts Chris and Agnes - a lovely couple who made us feel so welcome and yet did not intrude in any way on our privacy. Thank you both so much - we do hope to return one day!

We Have been renting Cottages across Great Britain for the last 25 years .
I have got to say that Closefield is one of the most cleanest and well kept cottages we have ever stayed at . The Facilities and contents are wanting for nothing and the hosts Agnes and Chris are the most pleasant and helpful people we have come across for a long time ! . The Welcome Pack was a nice touch and the location was perfect - we can highly recommend Closefield to anyone condsidering staying there - Kevin and Jacqueline

This property is finished internally and externally to a very high standard.
It is located adjacent to the owners property but you get total privacy, the property is fenced and looks out over the owners field and out to the local countryside. There is a comfortable external seating area where you can sit, relax and watch the wildlife. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the feedback. We have thought about comfort - hence the spacious areas and a super king bed. Soft furnishings are all in light earthy tones to give a sense of calmness. The fence borders the area so there is totally privacy to this property and no one can see, the nearest neighbours are a mile away. Therefore, the wildlife can be pretty active which surrounds us.
Overlooking the Ivinghoe Beacon, Closefield proved to be spacious, exceptionally clean, comfortable and well equipped to a high standard.

It is a lovely cottage with views of the White Lion at Whipsnade and Ivinghoe Beacon and big skies.
Also loved the field of cowslips next to the cottage and the frequent sightings of red kite and buzzards. The welcome basket with lots of lovely goodies was also very welcome and unusual in this day.

We had a great stay at this really comfortable, warm and delightfully situated cottage.
Agnes and Chris are such very good hosts too. Thank you for the welcome pack of goodies. Views from the cottage of Ivinghoe beacon as we sat watching a constant fly by of Red Kites.( For two dedicated bird watchers this was such an unexpected treat.) We have stayed at many properties over many years and Closefield is at the top of the list. Don’t hesitate, it’s even better than it looks folks!
Well that was a review! Thank you. We seem to be blessed with Red Kites in this area and there are an array of other birds too. We have visits from lots of wildlife which include herons, owls, hares, rabbits and deer just to name a few. Five minutes drive away is College Lake which is 65 hectares of a nature reserve, part of the Wildlife Trust. This is a haven for water birds and other wildlife. So whether you are into wildlife or National Trust Properties or walking which is on the doorstep as we are next to Ivinghoe Beacon. Or simply here to chill, then it should be covered for you. What a delight Closefield is.
Agnes and Chris were very welcoming and have clearly put alot of thought into Closefield. The facilities were excellent and Closefield was very warm and comfortable even in January. The location is stunning and really nice to have breakfast with the sun rising over Ivinghoe Beacon. Lovely views from the house. Overall Closefield is stunning and a great place for a holiday.

This is our third visit to Closefield and this time for ten days!
As before, everything was of a very high standard, with our hosts Chris and Agnes being as welcoming as always. A wonderful welcome pack awaited us on our arrival and we felt instantly relaxed and at home in the spotless bungalow, in its peaceful surroundings. We love it here and can’t wait to return. Great base for travelling. We visited Windsor on two occasions and several National Trust areas.
Lovely to see you both again, always a pleasure. There are lots of National Trust areas that surround us, we have been told that they are more in this area than anywhere else, not sure how true that is but there are lots. Hope to see you again soon.
Closefield is a luxurious and cosy base for a holiday, set amongst beautiful countryside.
It was spacious, extremely well presented and equipped and very private. The location was ideal for exploring the area, with beautiful walks from the doorstep. The owners Agnes and Chris were very friendly and helpful. We would certainly recommend this gem of a cottage to anyone wanting to visit the area.

This is one of the nicest properties we have stayed in, Chris and Agnes have done an amazing job making the bungalow absolutely perfect and have thought about everything you would need for your stay!
The welcome basket packed with goodies was a nice touch. The bungalow was spotless, the views are amazing and highly recommend walking the ivinghoe beacon which is the view you can see, also a trip into Tring was great fun with loads of nice restaurants and things to do. Communication from Agnes and Chris was perfect and was greated by Tracey who told us everything we needed to know about the bungalow and local area! Only thing I regret about our stay is I didn’t book longer…
Thank you that is a compliment. We look at trying to keep the place as nice as we can get it and often make small changes to accommodate the season by planting or adding outside furniture. Sometimes we need to take a break too, however we continue to communicate and always have someone in place to cover us. It seems to be that most people wished they had booked longer, but you can always come back....
This is a very pleasant quiet location.

Everything was just perfect from the moment we arrived, even though we were slightly early. Chris was communicative prior to the day and on arrival he was there with a friendly welcome and very helpful advice on what to do and where to go in the area. We absolutely loved the property, which faces away from the main house so you have no sense that the owners are nearby. The addition of the Welcome Basket was a very generous and nice touch. There are so many beautiful and interesting places to visit in the area, so much so that we intend to visit again next year.
Hey Chris and Agnes Massive thanks for being amazing hosts I love the way you guys have furnished Closefield It is so beautiful Chris was so helpful when I checked in as needed help to use electric hob , he gave me full tour of the cottage and told me how to operate everything and where to find daily maintenance things I loved every corner of it , the reception, the bathroom , the bath tub , kitchen and bedroom it is all stunning , i can see Agnes used her skills really well here My husband loved it and our baby enjoyed it as well , I would love to come back to explore areas around once I start driving hopefully I have not seen any cottage so well maintained like Closefield , the views around are breathtaking , I did not want to come back home , we managed to see rainbow as well and it was most beautiful rainbow of my life Will book again really soon Thank you so much We

Closefield is brilliant.
Probably the best self-catering stay we've had. The property is freshly decorated and sparkling clean throughout. The rooms (living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom) are plenty big enough for two people. We found enough utentials, pots and pans in the kitchen for our needs. Amazing amount of choice on the TV. Didn't need the heating much but it was very easy to take the early morning freshness off with a little bit of heat. All in, a fabulous home. Agnes and Chris were very kind. A sumptuous welcome basket was left and Agnes had thoughtfully provided some gluten free provisions (following an earlier conversation with me). They checked in with us a couple of times and offered some good suggestions for activities, which was helpful. The location is wonderful. We had a couple of lovely evenings, stood looking out of the main window at the birds, foxes, rabbits and other wildlife. Plenty of stuff to do within a half hour drive including NT and EH homes and gardens, walks and St Albans.

We stayed here for 3 nights, what a beautiful holiday home, nothing is really missing and everything is very clean.
Beautiful environment close to nature. We were warmly welcomed with a cup of coffee despite the fact that they had little time and had to leave for a party. It felt to us as if we had been there for years, so familiar. Two beautiful people who take the time for you and have a heart for what they do. We have booked again for September. We had a fantastic stay at Closefield, the accommodation was next level.
We have stayed in a fair few holiday lets and I don't think any of them have ever been finished to such a high standard as Agnes and Chris have at Closefield. The views out towards Ivinghoe beacon we're also brilliant. It was the perfect winter getaway.
