  • "It is a wonderful, cozy place to stay with lots of privacy and everything you need is available in the house."

Karen and Richard give you, as visitor, a very warm welcome without even being there! I can recomment KUB house to everyone who wants to feel at home without being at home.

Thank you very much Ester! We are so glad you had such a good time here. Property Owner

Great quiet rural location within easy access of Berkhamsted, Aldbury and Tring. Karen & Richard were great hosts, very knowledgeable, friendly and responsive to any queries. Would highly recommend. Fixtures and furniture exquisite.

Thank you very much for your comments. It was lovely having you both stay here. I hope your new house is everything you want! Property Owner

  • "We recently spent an all too short weekend at Kub House, it was lovely!"

It had everything we needed and more, its in a very quiet and private area, totally separate from the owners house by quite a distance compared to other holiday cottages within owners grounds, you feel you have a high degree of privacy, it has its own totally separate drive and parking area which I think is undersold in the listing, Kub House doesn't really feel like its within the owners property as such. The bed is VERY comfy with great pillows, we both slept extremely well, which is unusual for us when we go away!, plus there's an excellent shower to wake up to. The kitchen area and facilities were all of high quality and everything you could need was there, including milk, coffee and biscuits etc, thank you again Karen. Very comprehensive and interesting information was provided, its well worth a read, they certainly covered all bases there!. The local farm shop and cafe was worth a visit, the breakfasts are awesome, don't snack before hand!. There has been negative feedback in the past re the boiler making noise on occasion, we were both apprehensive about this, but are happy to say it has been somewhat over exaggerated to say the least, the only reason we could rarely and barely notice it at all was because we went out of our way to try to hear it!, after that it wasn't noticed. Although the garden area isn't huge, it is lovely, beautifully kept, peaceful and again private. The attention to detail and quality of Kub House was very pleasing. Karen was always available by phone if needed, although we had no reason to contact her, Karen went out of her way to help us with an issue we had at the end of our stay that had nothing to do with the property, which was very much appreciated, thank you again. We usually don't do do reviews because there's often as many negatives as positives to report, on this occasion we both felt strongly that Kub House and Karen deserved a very strong thumbs up! C & R

Thank you so much for your comments. It was lovely to have you stay at Kub. Yes, you are correct about the boiler - we had a new one fitted a few months ago and there are no more occasional boiler noises! Property Owner

shower excellent. Sofa and outside furniture uncomfortable. Drying rack in the bathroom an outside rack would be more suitable in the summer. Fan in bathroom on the ceiling so couldn’t reach so used open window as means of ventilation. Property had a slight musty smell.

  • "Well planned layout at a nice location."

A UK kingsize bed is unfortunately small compared to a EU standard bed and 30cm narrower compared to a EU kingsize. The bed was still ok-ish, the real setback is the seating. As mentioned in other reviews the couch needs a workaround, the other seating was also only for looks but not for use. Proper seating would make this cottage one we would return. Unfortunately the owners have ignored many signals. Also the fridge and dishwasher were the noisiest we ever had. Both sounded like a broken coffeegrinder. Otherwise still a lovely cottage, with mentioned improvements we would definitely recommend.

  • "Everything was as described."

And immaculately clean. Very peaceful. And pleasantly warm. The only thing that annoyed me was that I was asked to empty all the bins. And I forgot to empty the bathroom one. But felt the rate I paid was steep enough to cover that, plus the stripping the bed! I've never had to do that before leaving a property before. I'm always happy to leave things tidy. But I felt this was a bit excessive. There was also an odd noise, like a low hum, that went on for long periods in the evening/nighttime. I couldn't figure out was it was, but it sounded like a car with its engine running just outside. But it wasn't that. It unnerved me a little, and kept me awake a couple of times. So I didn't sleep as well as I expected. Apart from that, the bed was super-comfy, and lovely that the duvet wasn't too big and heavy! Everything else was fab!

  • "We have just spent a thoroughly enjoyable month staying at The Kub."

It is a most relaxing place . It is so cleverly designed - there is everything there you could possibly need in its compact space. We stayed there in January and it has been so warm and cozy. We must go back in the Summer as there is a delightful private garden with seating and a barbecue. We very much enjoyed the wildlife in the garden. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner, who is so kind and welcoming. A perfect place with the delights of outstanding countryside as well as easy access into London.

Hello, thank you so much for your lovely comments. It was great to meet you and have you stay in Kub. I hope your house move goes as smoothly as possible and of course, you would be very welcome to stay again. Kind regards Karen Property Owner

TV signal was not always very good and we had to get used to the bed and the low sofa, but we would book it again next time. We would have liked it if the hedge next to the house was less high, so that we could have enjoyed the garden. But we certainly enjoyed it and can recommend it to anyone.

  • "A good base for getting around the area."

We were able to visit London (via train from Tring), Windsor, Aylesbury, St Albans and the local towns of Tring and Berkhamsted were also great and had loads of bars and restaurants. The accommodation was small but comfortable. The only negatives were the outside space needed maintaining - the grass area had not been mowed and could be described as 'relaxed mowing' but there was none of this in the owners garden (doesn't look like the pictures). Also the pebbles and pathway were full of weeds. Not great as a first impression. The garden furniture was also a bit tatty and not comfortable. We visited on the hottest week of the year and didn't really sit out as it wasn't pleasant. The only other negative is that there was not an electric kettle it was a gas one which took ages to boil and consumed a lot of wasted gas. Would expect and electric kettle in a modern property.

Thank you so much for your feedback. In the garden we were trying to establish a more meadow type feeling with mown areas where you sit but clearly that hasn’t come across very well! We will cut all the grass short in future, ditto the path. We haven’t supplied an electric kettle as the kitchen worktop surface is smallish however we will get one that is as compact as possible for future guests. Thanks again for your comments. It is designed and decorated to a high standard and is a relaxing and peaceful space to be in. It is clearly well insulated (definitely no need for thermals!) and very quiet apart from the birdsong. The outside area is tastefully designed to provide separation and privacy from the main house and offers lots of secluded space for sitting out, bbq’s and parking.

  • "If you are looking for a little bolt-hole for a week - this is the place for you."

If you are looking for an intimate lovenest, for you and your partner - this is the place for you! I was very lucky in the sense that both of these criteria met my needs - somewhere quiet, but comfortable, where I could work uninterrupted, but be inspired by the beautiful surroundings (2 mins walk in any direction and you are in the rolling chilterns); but still have all the mod-cons that I needed to get through - Comfy bed, great shower, good internet connection, kitchen facilities (fridge, oven, kettle, dishwasher and washing machine) - perfect for the two weeks that I needed it for. The firepit outside makes an excellent addition, allowing you to cook, and eat, outside in the glorious English country air - no sounds of cars - just birds, all day long, followed by bats, foxes, deer, and badgers at night. In short - it was idyllic - and our hosts, Karen and Richard, are extremely friendly and helpful - responding to messages quickly, and their aim is to make your stay as easy and stress free as it can be. Oh, and Karen has an amazing list of entertaining/amusing websites that she enjoys talking about - make sure you get some of those from her before you leave! Would I stay again - undoubtedly!

Quiet and peaceful location. Clean and reasonably comfortable. Sofa was a little low for us oldies but the floor cushions placed under the sofa cushions solved that problem. Well equipped but a shelf above the microwave would be useful for groceries that do not require the fridge. Ideal location for walkers with so much beautiful countryside around..

The property

Found on a tranquil no-through road, Kub House sits between the attractive towns of Berkhamsted and Tring on the outskirts of Wigginton, deep in the Hertfordshire countryside.

The peaceful greenery around it gives Kub House an atmosphere very distant from the city, yet it’s no more than 10 minutes by cab from the mainline stations of Tring and Berkhamsted, and 40 minutes from London Euston.

Kub House has its own gated off-road parking, and from there it’s a short walk along a private shingle path to the front door, passing the neat, south-facing garden with its wooden furniture and fire pit.

Refurbished by the owners with thoughtfulness and care, the oak-floored, galley-style kitchen has a sleek black finish capped with wooden worktops and all the appliances you’ll need for your self-catered stay.

The open plan feel of the kitchen, dining area and living room creates a connection to the garden featuring native and evergreen trees that attract wildlife, including deer.

The dining area beyond the kitchen is perfectly scaled for one or two, with high stools and a table that allows you to enjoy a framed view of the garden.

It’s the perfect place for a romantic dinner, a casual lunch or a relaxed breakfast. In the living room, opposite the integrated wall-mounted smart TV, is a sofa long enough to allow plenty of indulgent lounging.

There are magazines, books and board games, and a spacious desk beside a window overlooking the garden.

Kub House has broadband, so you’ll stay connected.

Beyond the kitchen and living area an internal hallway leads to a bedroom providing a king-size bed, bedside tables, a dressing table, and chair overhung with a large ornate mirror.

Just outside the bedroom is a separate dressing area with a bespoke mirrored wardrobe and a place to store your luggage.

Opposite the bedroom, across the hallway, is a well-lit, sparkling and generously sized shower room providing a tiled corner shower, a fitted WC and a basin.

Fresh towels are warmed on a large towel radiator and there’s plenty of space for your toiletries and accessories on the deep wooden windowsill.

You’ll find Kub House a very comfortable and relaxing space with the added benefit of plenty to enjoy when you venture out including, if you fancy it, a 10-minute walk to Champneys, Britain’s original health spa.

Set in 170 acres, you can kick-back and book day or evening spas here, the house reached via a tunnel of trees worthy of the finest Downton-esque country pile.

Further afield Berkhamsted and Tring offer a wide selection of restaurants, from Thai to Turkish, Italian to Indian and contemporary to Chinese.

There are plenty of independent shops and cafes too, some with familiar names, some unique to the area.

There’s also a choice of some excellent quality takeaways, should you fancy a snug night in.

Apart from fabulous country walks starting from the moment you step outside; a notable local attraction includes the Art Deco Rex cinema in Berkhamsted.

Reckoned to be one of the finest picture houses in Britain, it screens over 30 movies monthly, from mainstream blockbusters to the best foreign films.

There’s a bar offering snacks, and downstairs you can leisurely consume them while viewing the screen from opulent swivelling velvet armchairs.

Another Berkhamsted highlight is Home and Colonial, an intriguing multi-floor antiques emporium, with a beautiful double frontage and instagrammable café and interior.

Tring isn’t short of memorable activities either, including a somewhat unexpected extension of London’s Natural History Museum.

Built in 1889 to house the incredible and slightly bonkers private collections of Walter Rothschild, a keen zoologist and eccentric, it’s a short walk away from beautiful Tring Park.

If you fancy seeing exotic live animals rather than the stuffed kind, Whipsnade Zoo is a 20-minute drive away.

Further afield are the fascinating Henry Moore studios at Perry Green, their gardens showcasing his sculptures from July to November.

Kub House is ideally placed for exploring the Chiltern Hills on foot, on bikes or by car.

This refreshingly un-crowded Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers many beautiful trails and walks, while cyclists can indulge the 173 miles of the circular Chilterns Cycleway (part of which runs along the bottom of our road) taking you through Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Being less than 40 miles from the centre of London, Kub House is also within easy reach of attractions like the Warner Bros.

London Studio Tour (great for Harry Potter fans) and Wembley Stadium, as well as Kew Gardens, Hampton Court Palace, Twickenham and more practically, Heathrow and Luton Airports.Whether you’re in the mood to explore, eat, drink or simply chill, Kub House offers an idyllic retreat for two, or, just for you.
