  • "Lovely cottage, clean, peaceful, well furnished and equipped."

Very convenient for visiting all sorts of interesting places, whether you enjoy visiting towns and villages such as Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford, or stately homes such as Deene Park or Cottesbrooke Hall. The cottage has a sunny south-facing aspect and you can watch the horses being exercised and see birds such as barn owls and woodpeckers. Highly recommended!

The views across the pastures with the horses grazing and other wildlife are brilliant. The owner is very helpful in every way and we can`t wait to go back again in the future. This is the best cottage we have stayed in.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Grooms Cottage very much indeed."

The cottage was most comfortably furnished and as well equipped as one’s own home would be with a beautifully modern hob and oven. It was warm, comfortable and spacious and the many added extras were most appreciated (including the delicious “welcome” cake!) The setting (a handy mile and a half from the main A47) in the quiet, rolling east Leicestershire countryside was perfect for a relaxing holiday with lovely vistas and a secure area for the dogs. The owner was very friendly, extremely helpful and left us in private unless we needed him. The resident dogs were gentle and friendly and perfectly behaved. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage especially to those seeking a high quality and quiet dog friendly cottage within easy reach of numerous good eating hostelries and we hope very much to return when we are next down visiting family in Leicestershire.

  • "We had a fabulous stay at Grooms Cottage and would highly recommend it."

The kitchen is well-equipped and the living room is large and comfortable with a lovely wood burning stove. The cottage has wonderful views over the countryside and you can spend hours watching the well-cared for ponies. The bed was large and comfortable. Alistair and Debi were very friendly and always on hand to answer questions.

  • "A lovely cottage with plenty of space set in picturesque countryside."

Ideal for a family holiday and not too far out of village. A lovely large homemade cake awaited our arrival and fresh milk ready for the tea! The cottage was lovely and warm and had a cosy feel. The owners live next door and run the stables at the back. Lovely to see the horses on the field every morning. Had problems with hot water having to shower in cold water one day wasn’t great. Owner was helpful and quick to respond though. You need to take an extra set of towels as only provided with one each so tricky to wash and dry on same day!

  • "Cottage provided peace and tranquillity."

Situated in a quiet area of the countryside. Found cottage spacious, well equipped and well maintained. Very comfortable for 4 adults. Welcome pack was delicious. There was an added benefit of walking dog round paddock rather than having to drive out for a morning walk. Hosts were friendly and available if needed without intruding.

  • "Fabulous cottage in lovely countryside."

Our dogs were welcomed and although it rained a lot and they were very muddy and wet, no one was concerned. This made our visit much more relaxed. Alistair & Debi were great hosts, there if needed but didn’t bother us otherwise (the home made welcome cake was delicious). Beautifully finished to a high standard with everything needed. Probably the best we’ve stayed in, so much so we are looking to return next year. Thank you

In the centre is the Market Square with the original fountain, where a temporary livestock market has been held every year since 1889. Uppingham and the surrounding area are steeped in history and offer something to suit all tastes and interests. Many sporting events are available at Rutland Water including walking, fly fishing, birdwatching, cycling and horse riding as well as golf, rock climbing, a high rope course and numerous watersports. This stunning house was used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice and The Da Vinci Code. Rockingham Castle, built on behalf of William the Conqueror, is open to the public throughout the summer, and plays host to events throughout the year including International Horse Trials, music festivals and family events. The town of Stamford, known as the finest stone town in England, and Oakham with its castle with horseshoes, heritage trail, and bi-weekly markets and monthly farmers’ market, are both worth a visit. Rockingham Speedway offers numerous track events throughout the year, or why not try out one of their many track days? The area boasts many award-winning pubs and restaurants with local produce such as cheese, bread, meats and fish, all of which can be bought at one of the many markets in the Rutland area. Visit the city of Leicester, nestling on the River Soar on the edge of the National Forest and the burial place of King Richard III, or the 'Rural Capital of Food' Melton Mowbray, home to the famous Pork Pie and Stilton cheese. Uppingham was voted best place to live in the Midlands by The Sunday Times in 2020 due to the traditional high street with specialist shops and overwhelmingly friendly locals.
