  • "Stables Cottage is located next to a livery stables."

The owners were very friendly and helpful and we were allowed to look around the livery yard and met Eli the friendly donkey. You can book horse rides if you wish. Tea, milk and a selection of small cakes were left for us to enjoy on arrival. The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything needed for a week stay. The TV is connected to an internet device which allows viewing of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and catch up etc. Very handy as the ITV signal was subject to pixelation. The shower was really good and the bedrooms, clean, light, large and airy and the beds comfortable. Lovely views across the countryside and the fields containing the livery horses. The location is down a good road about a mile from the A47 so access around the area is easy. The road leads to Hallaton and Medbourne, the latter has a small and friendly village shop and post office. We had a lovely week and would recommend Stables Cottage for a restful stay and a good location for exploring the local area. During our stay we visited the Nene Valley Railway, Sacrewell Farm Park, Barnesdale Gardens, Oakham, Harringworth Viaduct, Uppingham, Woolsthorpe Manor (NT) and Lyveden (NT). All were in easy reach. Enjoy your stay!

  • "We had a lovely holiday at The Stables."

The owners were really nice people. The cottage was in a super setting. The cottage was well placed for the things that we wanted to do. The cottage was well equipped and more than served it’s purpose. However our experience with Sykes during 2020 and before this deferring this holiday to 2021 was absolutely shambolic. We understand that we were not the only people to experience such difficulties. We were placed in a very difficult situation and there seemed to be no flexibility in Sykes’ response to our needs. It would be true to say that the internal photographs of the cottage were not up to date.

  • "Very warm and friendly welcome from Alistair."

Delicious cake on arrival was a very thoughtful touch. As mentioned in previous reviews, WiFi is very hit and miss, we found it never worked in the lounge and ground to a halt when people in the neighbouring cottage returned! I would have liked a few more "bits" in the kitchen, such as a whisk and a bit more cutlery, but not a big deal. A great location for us to visit nearby family, we'll definitely be back. Great dog walks at Wardley Woods, Fine Shade and East Carlton.

The owners are very friendly and it was nice to be on the livery as we fed the horses apples from the trees each day and enjoyed seeing all the stableyard activity. Lovely walks from the door for our dog and he enjoyed meeting the resident black labs who were also very friendly. Lots to do locally and spoilt for choice with good local pubs to eat out. WiFi a bit patchy at times but only really a problem for the teenagers! Thanks for a lovely week.

A beautiful stable conversion done to the highest standard I have ever experienced. The cottage is lovely cosy and warm and set in the heart of rural countryside. Daughter and grandson tried out horse riding on this working stable farm and where thrilled and the attention shown was very professional. The cottage is a lot bigger than it is portrayed with rural traditional touches. The host Alister and Debbie were really friendly and accommodating and made you feel like they knew you personally. With the likes of Oakham, Stamford, Uppingham and endless idyllic villages nearby it’s the perfect base to start from. Wildlife is abundant and plenty of quite dog walking nearby. We will certainly be returning soon. On behalf of myself and family a warm thank you for a lovely holiday. Thank you Alan Waring Thanks Alan Waring

We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts, Alistair and Debi, who were always on hand if needed. There's everything you need in the cottage including a great utility room at the entrance, which we found ideal for the dogs. We were attending a wedding at Normanton church, and the location for this was ideal. The cottage was clean, the beds comfy and the kitchen was well equipped. The views from the cottage are lovely and its a part of Leicestershire I really don't know and it has so many interesting places to visit nearby. If you are taking dogs, the utility room is huge, and the floors are tiled plus the garden is enclosed. Whilst it is on the yard of a riding school, it really didn't interfere in any way with our break and the yard was immaculate, so whilst we love horses if you aren't into the ponies its certainly not intrusive.

The cottage is extremely spacious and comfortable, and the owners are very helpful and friendly. The cottage is situated on a working stables and it was wonderful watching the horses out of the kitchen window and the daily activity of horse riding lessons etc. (It wasn’t intrusive or noisy at all by the way, it was great to see). The kitchen was well equipped, with some good quality recipe books for your perusal which was handy, and the double oven was of excellent size and quality so that we did a roast dinner for 6 with ease. Fantastic selection of DVDs and board games as well should you need, and plenty of books to choose from if you need a read.
