  • "I’ll start with the positives…."

The cottage itself is in a beautiful village, nicely tucked away, and with easy walkable access to shops and pubs. The beds were comfy and clean, and there were plenty of towels which were also clean, but sadly the positives stop there. This is by far the dirtiest holiday cottage we’ve ever stayed in…there were cobwebs and dust everywhere, the bathroom was appalling…very thick dust on the chrome sides of the sink, skirting’s and mirror light, and the floor covered my socks in dust also. The living room/kitchen floor was filthy, behind the sofa was shockingly dusty and dirty (I had to go behind it for the lamp plug) and it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in some time, along with the unit that the microwave sits on. There is a hole in the wall straight in front of you when you walk in the door, that looks unsightly with bits of stone falling out. The main door is very difficult to open and close (I think perhaps the door has swollen) and gets suck on the built in brown bristle mat as you walk in. The cooker and washing machine were both very unclean, and the glass dishes and frying pans were also filthy. The shelf where the plates and dishes were kept was thick in dust and all bar one of the egg cups had egg on them. The sugar bowl was packed full of sugar sachets, and when I tried to take some out, they were stuck to old sugar that was loose in it. The cupboard under the sink is dirty, with a broken pan cleaner in it, and looked like there had been some kind of leak at some point. The fridge has the door shelf missing to store things like, milk, juice, etc and there was fat marks and stains in it, that I cleaned myself before putting any food in it. The freezer is in desperate need of a defrost and has one door part missing that was put in the fridge. The whole place is in desperate need of a good clean and freshen up in every room, to make it nice again, as it could be beautiful. Also, we had two small dogs with us, which were kept on a lead at all times as required, but the owners two dogs are let to run loose, and her smaller one (a jack russel type) ran to my smaller dog and attacked him, and only stopped when I picked both of mine up. The owner did apologise, but I found this completely unacceptable, and distressing. The wifi is very poor, and although that didn’t really bother us, I could see this being frustrating for someone needing to rely on it. All in all the area is lovely, and the cottage could be amazing with a bit of TLC, and a thorough clean.

  • "A bit of TLC is needed."

The place could do with a clean, bathroom extractor thick of dust, toilet roll holder dusty, all velux windows have cobwebs. Clearly been a leak at some stage as the bathroom vanity housing for the WC is water damaged and the ceiling below partially painted with grey paint and it stands out against the white and all kitchen end panels split. The shower screen has lots of limescale. The kettle had thick sheets of limescale in it and despite a decent clean we didn't want to use it. We asked for a cot which was an option and I'm not sure when last used as it smelt foisty and ten minutes of laying on it even on a fresh sheet we'd brought our child had a foisty smell on her head. She slept in the bed after realising that. At the foot of the stairs there is roughly a 1m2 section of blown plaster. Any kids 1-4yr old will be picking at it and A) make it worse and B) possibly put in their mouths as they're kids. The WiFi didn't work and despite texting the number in the info book on the coffee table there was no response. One of the dining chairs is a hazard as the legs nearly snapped, one support is missing and two of the others weren't connected. I pushed it back in place but it's not safe. If you're not a confident driver then you may not like the parking as there are 3 bays but the turning circle is small given the 2 owners vehicles and then friends/family of the owners vehicle. We were lucky but could easily imagine having to reverse down the drive. The property is reasonably priced and located in a lovely village being only a ten minute walk to the high street. It wouldn't take much for this property to be fabulous, like I say, a bit TLC is needed.

  • "The Old Stables is in a perfect position in the middle of town just behind the high street, but away from the bustle of every day life, quietly positioned to the rear of shops, restaurants and cafes with an access directly on to the main shopping area."

The accommodation was comfortable and pleasant, with everything needed for our holiday. We are no strangers to Chipping Campden and have stayed in 5 or more different properties in the last few years, this being the best yet! The private parking is an asset, however parking is never really a problem on the side of the main street. The well kept garden to the rear is enjoyable and pleasant to sit out on hot sunny days. Will book again!

  • "Lovely position within the town, with a comfortable bed and pillows, and with private parking - all good."

The stay was let down by an internet connection that did not work, which was a big minus for us. The shower head was also visibly damaged and the shower not working properly, plus some blinds had lost their means of adjustment and the toilet seat was loose. A bit of care with the maintenance would sort this, but the lack of internet is a problem. If sorted, we would be delighted to revisit the property.

Very convenient for the high street with pubs, restaurants and shops. Only bug bear was the WiFi was very dodgy but that can’t be helped due to the rural area. We would definitely stay again.

  • "We had a great stay at the old stables."

The beds were really comfy with clean white bedding. The location was perfect, just off the high street so all amenities within easy reach but quiet and peaceful. We did find the path to the cottage/high street quite slippy and poorly lit which was tricky with steps & a pram. Although dog friendly it’s worth mentioning the garden is shared and not directly accessible from the cottage. We did have a great time though, the area is beautiful.

  • "Perfect location and well maintained."

The addition of the communal garden was such a bonus as totally dog secure . It must be beautiful in the spring and summer.a few logs would have been nice to start off with especially as it was a gloomy December day when we arrived after a long journey. But beds were lovely warm and comfortable have recommended it to friends who have booked this summer . Will certainly book this property again

  • "Had a lovely week’s stay at The Old Stables."

So conveniently located for local pubs/restaurants and shops. House was small and cosy for the two of us, might have been a bit too cosy for four adults. Bedrooms lacked any real clothes storage, a chest of drawers would have been useful.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Old Stables, we appreciate your comments. Best Wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable cottage and bed in the main bedroom excellent overall we were very happy especially the convenience of the shops The only problem we had were the steps to the cottage the white paint had worn away even in daylight you had to be careful."

a visitor from the next cottage fell right outside our door.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted that you had a comfortable stay. We have passed your comments onto the owner, who we know has a number of maintenance jobs already scheduled in this month. All steps are painted but they do wear within a month but we will keep doing it! With regard to the lighting we had brighter lights but that disturbed some guests so teh compromise! • "We loved our stay at The Old Stables."

The town Chipping Campden is lovely and the house is perfectly situated. Totally out of control of Sarah, the house had some leaking problems, but that didn't interfere with our holiday. The only thing that was "off" was the bed; it was hard and had lumps. You could feel the spirals of the matras. We fixed that by taking the topper and duvet of the other bed and putting it on top of the one we were sleeping on. Furthermore, we just loved everything!

Thank you for your feedback, so glad you enjoyed your stay. Apologies for the leak, it is now fixed, it was a violent storm. New beds are on order, unfortunately hadn't arrived for your stay, but will be in all three cottages in the very near future. Property Owner

Such a good location with the walkway to the highstreet. The cottage was a very good size for the 3 of us and our dog. Only negatives was the parking as there were so many cars parked in a little space. We will be back soon.
