  • "Just got back from a weekend stay 6 adults."

If anything the pictures didn’t do it justice ! Perfect location hidden off the Main street the cottage is huge , three big double bedrooms , large dinning room and original features to die for , very comfy beds , two bathrooms and a downstairs toilet. Directly opposite the pubs and restaurants plus convenience store lots of great quirky shops Spotlessly clean would highly recommend. Had a great nights sleep could not hear a thing. Picture perfect 5 stars a hidden gem. 5th July 2024 Jane from Yorkshire

Thank you for this lovely review which is much appreciated. We're delighted you loved the cottage and the convenient location near the main street. We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a great girl’s long weekend break at Butlers Cottage."

Lovely traditional cottage, spacious and cosy inside and stocked with everything you need (though could do with a few more mugs!). Perfect central location off the high street but still quiet. Good base for exploring other Cotswold villages or getting into Oxford for a show.

  • "We had a great stay at the cottage and would definitely return!"

Check-in instructions were clear and shared well in advance, the high street parking does get full very quickly but we were fine parking round the corner. Although I'd agree with other reviews on the upkeep of the entrance/outside of the cottage, it almost made the interior even more impressive when you got in. The place was beautifully decorated, clean, spacious and had all the amenities needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay :)

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Butlers. It's wonderful to hear you loved your stay at the property, it's a real hidden gem, that you wouldn't even know was off the high street. We hope you managed to enjoy some lovely meals in Burford, one of our favourites is the Indian in Burford and who can resist the Sweet Shop up the High Street. We would love to welcome you all back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "I had a really pleasent and comfy stay in this suprisngly quiet house, so much so , that i would happily return."

Other feedback is as others have already stated: 1. I noticed in both Manor Cottage properties i've stayed in the interior is cleaner than the exterior. They don't seem to have an appropriate outside space maintenance routine & it shows. Not that the spaces aren't usable or appreciated, they are. But in general holiday lets do fall down on exteiror maintenance and here is the same. They need to keep pace with the seasons to stay on top. Tumbled roof moss, bird feathers, spider webs and weeding, greening stone work are classic signs. 2. The house is very old and full of character so a bit of wonky is not an issue. I did notice reported failed curtain rings and hard to flush toilets in reviews remain unaddressed which suggests feedback is not routinely acted upon as stated. Other issues: 1. Taking a dust pan and brush to a set of stairs revealled they obviously hadn't been properly cleaned for a while. We also found some long black hairs in our bathroom. While some / most of the property does appear super clean it's a shame to know corners might get cut. I was left wondering if detergents are used to clean bathrooms and what other bits might be neglected. It's a big property and i can imagine a daunting propsect to clean but hygiene risks only increase in such places. 2. This might be one for the local vicar rarher than an electrician but the first couple of nights were chilly and we could not get any radiator in any bedroom or the sitting room to activate following house instructions. Then all of a sudden one might suddenly heat up, but is was terribly random. None of it made any sense at all. Also the radiator in the tv snug made an alarming rattling noise after being on for several hours. When finally one evening the dish-washer came on without ever being used or even switiched on we decided the whole issue might have something to do with a resident ghost. The house electrics didn't seem dodgy and the heating was all about illogical water flow, but this house is in permanent shade so i'd want an assurance all is working if i were to stay during the winter.

Thank you for sharing your comprehensive feedback. We have passed your comments onto our Managed Services Team, for them to investigate. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and the quiet location of the house. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We stayed in this property approx 3 years ago - just before the pandemic."

We enjoyed our stay that time so we’re happy to book again. But, … this time we noticed that very little maintenance / repairs has been done. 2 of the 3 toilets did not work properly. For one of them, a part had to be obtained and then fitted. A number of the light bulbs were out and needed replacing - v high ceilings so not something that we could fix. The curtains in the living room needed rehanging - as several of the connecting pieces were either missing or broken. There were a number of places where wall paint had been scuffed and needed redoing. Some of the kitchen equipment was missing from our last visit and had not been replaced etc etc. Overall - lots of small things that detracted from our experience. We are more than a bit surprised that there has been no offer of any compensation to make up for all of the inconvenience caused.

  • "Very nice location off the High Street other than the alleyway access."

Very peaceful and quiet despite proximity to street. The property itself is very well presented and equipped. Got to be careful with head height/ upstairs beams. Only one key is a real issue for up to 6 people who could be in 3 groups going in different directions. This is compounded by the lack of a phone signal in Burford, resulting in having to make complex arrangements for meeting and contact. Not acceptable, especially as the key safe wasn't working particularly well and would not close for some time. 2 extra keys in the property sorts an annoying problem. Burford is lovely with many attractions around about. Great for a winter break.

Behind a nondescript door on the High Street lies this lovely cottage. Exceedingly well equipped, immaculately clean , spacious, quirky and very comfortable. Superb location right in the centre of Burford. At first we were concerned about needing to park on the busy Main Street but it was never a problem, we always found an unlimited space at the bottom end of the High Street. A lovely property, highly recommended.

The beds were very comfortable and rooms very spacious. The milk, biscuits, juice and crisps were a lovely welcome touch and it was good to have a range of cleaning products supplied too. The location was excellent as we could access all Burford had to offer on foot yet the cottage was very quiet.

  • "Lovely cottage in perfect location to enjoy Burford and the Cotswolds."

The welcome pack was very thoughtful and much appreciated. The cottage itself was immaculate, but the exterior alleyway and courtyard were a bit grubby, meaning our first impressions were a little tarnished. The interior stairs were a little steep, but good exercise! As far as facilities go, there was everything you could hope for. Excellent beds, good showers, extensive TV selection and a kitchen better equipped than our at home, as well as lots of information about the area. Loved our week.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your comments regarding the courtyard and steep stairs. We do warn of these on the listing of the property and are on-hand if you ever require any further information regarding elements such as this. We hope to welcome you again one day in the future. • "We had to find a place to stay at the last minute."

We found Butler's Cottage on line and it seemed perfect. Unfortunately the website we were using reported an error and it would take up to 48 hours to get a response. I looked it up and found Butler's Cottage again at Sykes Holiday Cottages website. They actually have people answering the phone and they were very helpful through the booking process. It was arranged that we had the cottage for that night. The instructions given for accessing the cottage were easy to follow. The address on the High Street in Burford, Oxfordshire was central. Even though it is a busy thoroughfare with a heavy tourist influx during the day, once you opened the door and walked down the private Close to the cottage the noise of the High Street faded away to leave the sounds of birds in the Wisteria and quiet church bells on the hour. The kitchen appears to be a cooks kitchen! Everything you might want including a crepe pan! We had peach crepes for breakfast one day. There is even a dishwasher. There is a laundry room with everything necessary for a traveler. There is a staircase at either end of the cottage so my husband and I used the bedroom and bath on one side of the house while our daughter and baby used the bedroom and bath at the other side. One group did not disturb the other. There was a third bedroom in the middle we did not need. It was a wonderful respite and the people at Sykes Holiday Cottages were very helpful at all times. Burford is a wonderful village central to exploring the Cotswold.

Thank you so much for this lovely review. We're delighted that you found the booking process trouble free and enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Burford is indeed a popular village but it sounds as if you had a peaceful, relaxing few days. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

The room heater in the bedroom with the twin beds needs fixing - we could not get it to work 2. The check in times was stated as 6 pm in the email from Sykes however the information manual for guests at the cottage said 4 pm ( this looks reasonable instead of 6 pm ) both need to be consistent 3. The passageway leading to the cottage main door in not maintained and is littered with debris, however.that said, the cottage itself is very clean and well maintained Thank you for a wonderful arrangement . It is incredibly comfortable. You have everything you could need in the cottage, it is really well equipped with a lot of thought to making each stay as comfortable as possible. We stayed on a really crisp cold week and we found it warm and cosy and the wood burning stove was a real bonus. The cottage throughout was exquisitely presented with everything you could wish for in a self catering stay. Beds were large and blissfully comfortable. About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 2.4 miles; Little Barrington 3.5 miles; Minster Lovell 5.6 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, it is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located midway between Oxford and Cheltenham, it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits! With little change over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all within ten miles.
