  • "There were good things, and not so good."

    The best thing about this property is that it is right on the banks of the River Thames, with a private mooring. The house was generally comfortable, although the kitchen felt a little dated, and opening and closing the 'stable doors' was an unnecessary pain. The house was generally very clean, although some of the pans were greasy and had to be cleaned before use. The BBQ was an absolute disgrace, and looked like it had never been cleaned. Thick grease and old bits of food were welded on to the grills, and had to have a thorough clean before we could use it. There were 12 of us in the house, so having only 2 bathrooms was felt to be inadequate. Worse than that, there was only one proper shower (in a cubicle). There were 2 shower contraptions attached to the two baths, but they weren't user friendly. The lounge furnishings, and beds were very good. Overall, having paid close on £3,000 for 3 nights, it didn't really come up to expectations, and we wouldn't consider going there again.

    Thanks for your feedback. The property is advertised with 2 bathrooms and this is information you were aware of before booking. Similarly, pictures of the kitchen and fittings were accurately provided. The highlight of the kitchen is old world meets new, which provides a cottage like feel with modern amenities such as underfloor heating and other appliances. The BBQ is cleaned after every booking, although primary responsibility lies with the guest and all cleaning tools have been provided. Sorry to hear you will not be visiting again, however, most guests do visit for that holiday cottage charm. As well as having River Thames in your backyard with an outdoor kitchen and a hot tub.     Sitting in the garden watching the river. Had a wonderful week in the house. There was plenty of room for our family group of 8 plus one dog. We would definitely return in the future. Fab place, very relaxing. Watching the world go by.

    As was the view of the lake. Everything was was clean and the owner was great when we had anything come up. The blue booklet with all the rules and information was very useful. Everyone enjoyed their stay and couldnt compliment it eniugh. The bedrooms can get quite hot when it's a hot day though. Some fans would help. And a larger freezer space would be good too.

  • "Lovely home stay."

    All the facilities were spot on, beds lovely. Lovely views of the river. It was very hot weather + the downstairs of the house was great. Although it could do with more freezer space, the house as a whole was lovely, we also managed to catch & release a couple of fish.

  • "The house itself is wonderful."

    Lots of space, great open plan kitchen dining living area. Rooms are all spacious and comfy, hot tub and garden are lovely. Local area is quiet but nice pubs and walks are a very short drive away. Hot water situation is quite tricky, especially with a house of 10 adults. Waiting 30 mins between everyone’s shower is unreasonable and a lot of us had freezing cold showers only despite all showers being quick and no baths. The house is missing a few essential bits, we had no washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets or normal tea bags. Lack of bins for recycling inside the house. No handsoap in the upstairs bathroom. The kitchen equipment is also a little limited for a house of this size. We had 10 people staying and struggled when cooking, lack of pots / pans, bowls etc. The aga is also tricky, mainly as the dials have no numbers on them and they get burning hot when in use so it’s hard to select temps etc. Sykes as a booking agency are extremely difficult. Website is inaccurate and unhelpful, causing a major issue with my booking that I then had to pay extra for. Their phone options are unhelpful and they point blank don’t respond to emails - I was told this on the phone. To the point where I had emailed repeatedly asking to speak to someone about my booking, had no response, and then had my entire booking cancelled.

Additional kitchen equipment and pots, pans, bowls (including pet bowls) have been provided. Sykes has recommended a minimum 3 night booking on their website. Perhaps your initial booking got cancelled as you had booked for 2 nights. I'm sorry you found their helpline difficult. I have provided a direct telephone number in the instructions file at the property. Aga oven instructions are also provided. In addition, the plumbing has been fully upgraded by adding new water tanks and boosters to accommodate for large groups. Please do visit again and we look forward to welcoming you in the future!   • "Lovely house good view of the river, comfortable and warm, plenty of parking, and enormous hot tub ."

    The house was clean and spacious. As we had five dogs most of the time we were happy with the convenience of a nearby field to exercise them. We found the cooker a bit difficult to use, would have appreciated a bigger freezer section in the fridge, and that it was defrosted. It was frozen up and a bag of chips weee in there, we left them. Just a little bit attention needed to the wash basin hot tap, it didn’t work, and the screws to the door knob into the lounge kept falling out. All in all with at couple of minor issues, it was a wonderful place for a family weekend. Thank you for letting use it.

    The house was fabulous,right on the river,with plenty of room for all of us- we could be all together,or be in our own spaces.Wonderful.The bedrooms were lovely and beds so comfortable.Plenty of room outside to relax and enjoy the beauty of the river,and the hot tub was exc ellent- so relaxing after a day sightseeing.I thoroughly enjoyed being able to use our 51st Wedding Anniversary present of a kayak to paddle around on the river. So convenient for sights- either driving or by train.Swift response to slight problems we had,and helpful advice on trips we planned.Thankyou so much for allowing us our holiday in Coventina.Diolch yn fawr.

  • "Generally disappointed."

    For what it cost I was expecting a faultless property unfortunately that was not the case. To many issues to list but main one after it had been supposedly spotlessly cleaned, double plug socket hanging off upstairs wall. Plenty of room for improvement.

The wall socket was damaged by a previous guest who checked out on the day you checked in and as such was not fixed in time. Apologies but it has been taken care of since then.
