  • "This was such a wonderful cottage."

The beds are extremely comfortable. The kitchen is the most well-equipped one I have stayed in. Couldn’t fault it’s location, right in the centre of Avebury and opposite the church. A most relaxing and enjoyable holiday for all of the family. Will definitely book again.

  • "As a middle aged couple with three rescue dogs we have stayed in a number of holiday properties, this may be the best."

... The owners gladly facilitated a last minute date change on our part, but the Old Bakehouse sold itself once inside the door. Despite being 300 years old and in autumnal weather, the property was as warm as toast with its underfloor heating and numerous thermostats both downstairs and up. The sofas and bedding were super comfy and the electronic equipment was modern and hi spec - from the NEF cookers & Air Fryer to the smart tv's. Unusually - the kitchen held most things that you may need from premium coffee to brown sauce..... Parking out front was convenient for one and sometimes two cars, the rear garden was large, pictoresque and secure, the surroundings were 10/10 with easy walks steeped in history and a great Chef & Brewer pub (The Red Lion) just a 100 metre safe walk away. In balance, we couldn't not have asked for more. There are no ground floor rest room facilities which was fine for us, there is a good bathroom and ensuite double bedroom on the first floor. We would stay again in a heartbeat if returning to Wiltshire....

  • "The property is old and quaint, it was spacious ,clean and well equipped in the kitchen ."

Good quality towels and bedding . We ,like others found the sofas extremely low and the all feather cushions heavy and uncomfortable. The dining chairs are not upholstered and although okay for eating a meal they were uncomfortable as an alternative seat to the sofas. I booked this property because it had a ground floor bedroom and I don’t think the property description is clear enough in that all toilet and bathing facilities are upstairs. I have reduced mobility and thought the shower was downstairs , if I had known I wouldn’t have booked it . The bathroom and shower rooms are nicely done and the beds are very comfortable. The lounge and ground floor bedroom are quite dark and colder than the rest of the ground floor. The bedrooms and bathrooms were chilly in the evening and the radiators never came on even when the temperature dropped . The owners do make themselves available via email, mobile or WhatsApp , we just didn’t bother them . The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog . The location was great and it was only a short walk to the pub to get a meal out . It wasn’t made very clear as to where the additional car parking was and whether you had to pay , there was no mention of it in the property handbook or Sykes website . We only had one car and used the space in front of the property, you have to do a few manoeuvres to turn your car around as the road is narrow and no turning spaces.

  • "Beautiful house and wondered location and we had a very enjoyable stay."

Would be 5 star with a few changes: shower in shared bathroom, extra toilet downstairs especially as there's a bedroom downstairs and potentially 8 people in the house, some simple instructions for kitchen equipment - yes it is all top of the range but not straightforward to use, there is a great tv in the living room but it is impossible to see from the sofas! A couple of coffee tables would have been helpful, as well as chairs in all bedrooms. Hope this helps

  • "Wonderful cottage with all we needed."

Really good beds but the sofas were too low and soft for people of a certain age and we struggled a little with them Also a shower in the main bathroom would have been useful However we would recommend this cottage highly and would visit again

  • "It's a lovely cottage."

The garden could do with a bit of cutting back where the table is and out side where the bin are. Windows could do with a clean. It just needs a bit of TLC as its a lovely home. The beding in the winter would be great but to hot and heavy for the summer months.

  • "The house is amazing in a beautiful location."

Lots of space to sit inside and out, and a magnificent oak table off the kitchen to easily seat 8. The kitchen is very well provisioned including plastic plates and cups for the children. We all loved the garden which is fully enclosed, as advertised, for any worried dog owners. The bedrooms have lots of storage and very comfortable beds. Thank you to Tony and Fiona for the fabulous welcome hamper and being so helpful with parking advise and trip suggestions.

  • "We all loved our stay at the Old Bakehouse."

It actually is better than the photos we saw on the website - masses of space, a lovely kitchen and a great dining area. We brought our small dog with us so we were very pleased to find a secure garden area that was ideal for us to sit in and the dog to play in.

  • "We really enjoyed our week at The Old Bakehouse."

The location is fabulous, so close to the stone rings with milk store, local shop and pub literally within a stones throw. The Property is really well equipped with everything that you'll need. There are two seating areas outside which was welcome for out hot week (there was always some shade to sit in), with a nice garden for our little girl to run around in. The two lounge areas are a bonus and the bedrooms were very comfortable. I would very much recommend the Old Bakehouse for a great stay in Avebury.

We've been using holiday cottages for years, and this is the most extensively equipped home we've stayed in. Everything was immaculate and very comfortable, we would highly recommend this property. We met the owners briefly, and they also were lovely and very quickly sorted a small problem that we had.

  • "This was by far and away the best cottage we have ever stayed in."

The cottage has been renovated and maintained to an exceptional standard. Great attention has clearly been paid to the experience of the people staying in it and this is reflected in the very high quality of furnishing, linens and resourcing of the kitchen. It truly felt like a home from home and we really didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. Add to this that it is situated in the heart of Avebury a stones throw from the standing stone, National Trust centre, pub and community store and just a stones throw from Marlborough it made the perfect stay for us. Thank you!

  • "We had a wonderful Christmas at The Old Bakehouse."

A beautiful cottage in the middle of Avebury, it was all quite romantic really. The place was clean and very comfortable with all facilities required for a family stay. The kitchen was spacious and had all the necessary equipment to cook a Christmas dinner and the dining area was perfect with a large table to sit 8 people. The neighbours were very friendly and helpful and the the quaint surroundings made the perfect setting - all that was missing was some snow.

  • "The best equipped holiday home I have ever stayed in, perfect for a family gathering of 6 adults and a dog."

Right next to the stones, in a picture postcard setting. We did have a small issue with the front door lock on arrival, quickly resolved, just needed pulling forward and a bit of muscle turning the key. Only about a 5 mile round walk to Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow, and plenty of other walks around the village availiable, so once we were in the car didn't see much use.
