  • "7.14 a day fuel and gas allowance for four people You get an email 24 hours before you arrive from the Owner which really sets the tone for the whole Holiday on this email."

You are told that there’s a €50 limit and they want a so-called refundable hundred euros deposit paid in cash. A meter reading will be taken on arrival and if you go over your limit for gas and electric, this will be used to cover it. You have no idea of this at the time of booking. The email also covers a list of things that could affect your deposit . The booklet in the property has a lot of dos and don’ts everything is geared up to turning off electric and saving money. Some of them are exceptionally petty. It would probably save the owner less than €20 a year. We found ourselves scared to leave on a light, have a shower or turn on the kettle to make a cup of tea. One example of penny pinching is the immersion heater. There was no hot water on our first day or the following morning. We checked - to find that the immersion heater was switched off. Guests are told to do this on leaving. The new guests are not advised to turn it on. Looking at the timer it would hardly have come on anyway. On arrival there were an exceptional amount of flies everywhere. There were 4 fly swats and 1 tin of fly spray - which we then used to battle the flies during the week. The communal shower room had a strong smell of urine around the pan. It didn’t how much it was cleaned as it still didn’t go away. The owner on a telephone call did agree to waiver the 100 euros - after I explained my disappointment at the email and not being informed about this at the time of booking. The whole tone of the place from the house booklet to the email is penny pinching.

Hi Kevin, I'm sorry if you did not enjoy your time in Sea's The Dream & equally disappointed by the tone of your review as there is no intention or indeed suggestion of penny pinching around in what we ask of, and explain to guests. You forgot to mention our welcome pack of tea/coffee/bread/milk/butter/biscuits etc provided to allow guests make a cuppa on arrival. I also explained when you phoned me to complain about the energy allowance /deposit & the do's & dont's etc., that a) the energy allowance is based on typical weekly usage & in a similar manner to your experience, no guests have ever had to pay extra - it's purely included for guests to be energy & environmentally aware. b) I agreed to cancelling the breakage deposit having spoken to yourself on the phone & finding you were an ultra careful person and a low risk for any damage, and c) thank you for your feedback of a smell in the main bathroom. Just to say, it's the first complaint ever of our housekeeping and will deal urgently with whatever the problem is. Finally, we take pride in our property and always want to provide the best holiday experience for all our guests, and are very pleased that ambition is routinely achieved as evidenced by face to face comment and all the other reviews. • "We really enjoyed our holiday."

The location of the house was perfect, in a quiet area with a wonderful sea view. The house is bright, airy, and comfortable, and there was no shortage of anything we needed. The welcome goodies… milk, teabags, bread, butter and biscuits were much appreciated. A special thank you to Angela, who made us feel welcome. We would definitely recommend the house and intend to return. Maryrose and John Maxwell.
