Bohans Barn

Wonderful house, about 10 minutes from nearest town.

Everything you could possibly need during your stay is in the house. Extremely quiet being a stand alone property with nice views from upstairs looking out over fields with mountains in the distance. On a few days of our stay we sat and watched deers whilst enjoying a morning coffee. A real home from home.

If I could I would give this property more than five stars.

The owner, Gillian, was extremely helpful. She left us an amazing welcome pack, which provided us with plenty of meal ideas. In the information pack she leaves for guests, we're plenty of ideas for places to visit. We used several, and had a fantastic time visiting them. We would have no hesitation recommending to others, and would happily return when we next visit North Mayo.

We had the most amazing week at Bohan's Barn.

The house (nothing like a barn!) is so spacious, beautifully furnished, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location is extremely quiet and close to nature. We had deer close by and had great fun exploring the primeval woodland next door, and the most perfect beaches were within easy reach. Our dogs were just as happy as we were. It's a rural community, but there are good shopping facilities in Ballina if you need them. Gillian was a lovely host, treating us to tasty home-made soda bread and jam, and giving us helpful tips for places to visit. We had a slight problem with the cooker hob, and she had it replaced the very next day. Honestly, can't praise it highly enough. Just a fantastic, relaxing, beautiful, welcoming place.

An absolutely lovely property, full of charm.

It’s very homely and welcoming. Spacious, with good facilities. The setting is peaceful and very beautiful and the hosts are warm and friendly. Bonus points for the lovely horses who pop up to say hello when you pass their stable. A very special place, can’t wait to come back.

This was in a lovely secluded area.

We would have liked to have spoken to the owner on a few bits that weren't satisfactory but overall a large space with beautiful views. There was a welcome package and useful information on sights to see.

This is a delightful cottage in a beautiful part of Co Mayo.

Our hosts, Gillian and Eamon, were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted by a breakfast basket of sausages, white pudding, home baked bread and a jar of the finest homemade marmalade we've ever tasted, courtesy of Gillian. Having three horses as our neighbours was also real bonus. They love a few carrots! This is a great place for exploring all Mayo has to offer, from the stunning coastline to charming towns such as Ballina, Westport and Foxford, to name a few. Sligo is little more than an hour away and also well worth a visit. We were particularly moved by our visit to the Addergoole Titanic Memorial Park in Lahardrane, telling the story of the villagers who lost their lives on the ship’s maiden and only voyage. Foxford Woolen Mill is well worth a visit just for its amazing cafe. Other highlights include The National Museum of Ireland in Turlough Park, the Jackie Clarke museum in Ballina and the Michael Davitt Museum in Strade. All these places offer rich insights into the history of Mayo and its people. Bill & Liz

We can't recommend Bohan's Barn highly enough, a beautiful cottage nestled deep in the spectacular Mayo countryside.

Gillian is a wonderful host and the cottage is fully stocked with all the mod cons required to make a relaxing break. The town of Ballina is only 15 minutes away from the cottage and has many shops including a Tesco and two Lidl stores. Highly recommended cottage with nearby drives to stunning locations such as Westport, Cong "Quiet Man", Achill Island and Downpatrick Head, also many stunning beaches within easy reach.

Bohans Barn is fabulous accomodation.

A large dwelling that is extremely comfortable and cosy and very well equipped. The garden is amazing… the views spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Eamon and Gillian are so accomodating and friendly always ready to help with directions or share their local knowledge. We simply cannot fault Bohans Barn.

Great time away, a home from home.

Everything there that one would need. Plenty of forest walks close by to suit all levels of walker with great beaches slightly further away. Gillian could not have been more helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.

A very well equipped holiday home with a lovely welcome pack of food in fridge including freshly baked bread.

Very comfortable bed. Generally clean but a bit on the dusty side. Long grass in front hiding some tall stinging nettles, could have done with a good trim

Absolutley fantastic holiday with my family.

Cozy, comfortable and a real homely atmosphere. The welcome pack on arrival was local, traditional and most welcome. Log fires, country walks, beautiful scenery with stunning coast lines. Our hosts were the best. Strongly recommended for families or or groups of friends.

Rural and well equipped. Some very friendly horses as neighbors. A convenient location to see the beauty of Mayo. The beds were so comfy! A breakfast was left which was much appreciated. Thank you very much.

We had a fantastic holiday at Bohans Barn.

Everything there for you to cook, play, read, work, clean. The kids and dogs absolutly loved the space to run around and explore. The horses are so friendly and we even got to spot hares and deer in the field in the evening. Beautiful beaches, cliffs, walks and more all located within a short drive. Shop 5 mins drive. Gillian and family were so friendly and helpful. We hope to deffinatly return in the future. Thank you for a lovely Easter experience.

Gillian and Eamonn were marvoulous hosts and made us to feel very welcome.

The house is well equipped with everything you might need.The Mayo countryside is charming and we enjoyed watching spring come to life. There are many great walks to be had from their door step.

Lovely private home for a holiday.

Bohan's Barn is a lovely country home for a week's stay County Mayo. Secluded location in a beautiful area. Clean and comfortable. Nice location for exploring the area. Groceries and services nearby. Very dog friendly but note that stairs to second floor are not carpeted so a bit slippery and steep for larger or older dogs. Host Gillian left some lovely local products (sausage, bread, boxy) for our arrival. Great stay!

Bohan's Barn was a wonderful holiday cottage and a well located base to explore County Mayo.

It is set in the most tranquil and beautiful rural location, but bustling towns and miles of stunning empty beaches are all within easy distance. There is also really well stocked shop a very short drive away so you wouldn't have to venture far if it you didn't want to. My dog loved exploring all the space in the garden and meeting the horses next door. The property was spacious and comfortable with everything you could need and beautifully decorated - I feel like the pictures don't do it justice. I particularly loved curling up in front of the log-burning stove in the evening and enjoying the well-stocked bookshelves. Everything worked great too - heating was easy to work, lots of hot water, fast internet and a great TV. Gillian was a wonderful host, helping us make the most of the local area and providing a lovely welcome pack - what a treat to be gifted freshly baked bread still warm from the oven! I will remember my holiday here very fondly and would happily recommend it to everyone!

I couldn't recommend this place enough.

My wife and I had an amazing two weeks at this beautifully converted barn. Everything is well thought out from the decor down to the cutlery and glasses. Kitchen has everything you could need for cosy dinners infront of the fire. With wildlife all around in abundance relaxation is mandatory. Gillian couldn't have been nicer with fresh bread and jam made for us worthy of any local baker. Great location. We can't wait to go back.

We just spent four glorious days in beautiful North Mayo based at Bohan's Barn.

What a little gem of a house; cosy, comfortable, located just a short drive from glorious unspoilt beaches, the bustling town of Ballina and the stunning mountainous landscape wrapped around us. We had everything we needed in the house for a family of six plus our dog. The house is safely located down a meandering lane, well away from the road which meant a lot with our youngest child with a learning difficulty and our dog of course. Gillian, the owner could not have been more helpful and welcoming. She greeted us with a big bag of goodies for our breakfast the next day and a freshly baked loaf of brown bread. Gillian guided us in where to visit on our short stay and she gaged our interests 100%. We will defiantly return for another stay at Bohan's Barn, only this time we will stay longer. xo

We had a fabulous stay at Bohans Barn.

Kids really enjoyed the open space and the horse swing especially. They loved feeding the horses beside us some apples aswell. The house itself was perfect. We had kindly been left a lovely welcome package which we saved for breakfast the next morning, although the warm homemade wheaten bread left for us didn’t make it til then, it was too good! the kids enjoyed playing hide and seek and even read some of the books that are there. It had everything you need and more. Very comfortable beds and so peaceful. Not too far from civilisation which is good if you need to nip out to the shop. All in all we could not fault this place and highly recommend it. Just what we needed. Thank you so much.

Great place to be based with lots of good beaches and places to visit along the coast, helpfully pointed out in house manual.

Amazing location and property.

This was our family's second time to visit and didn't want to leave. The house has everything you need and the quality of the facilities is first class. Lots of amazing beaches, some as close as 15minutes by car.

Outstanding property, very spacious, warm, and very comfortable, very private in a secluded location but very accessible and very close to Crossmolina which caters for all requirements.

Outstanding scenery and beaches minutes away, fabulous big garden with wild deer and other wildlife. Get it booked while you can you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic property with everything you would need in a beautiful peaceful location, but only a ten minute drive to crosmalinna for shops bars and restaurants.

We were able to explore amazing co mayo and found no shortage of things to do. We loved getting up in morning to the beautiful scenery and horses. Seen wildlife close up in our grounds from hares to deers. Gillian was a fantastic host. We have stayed in many houses and this was our facourite and only one we will be back to next year

Lovely homely barn in a quiet location, tricky to find at first but well equipped and well described.

Property is about 5 mins drive to nearest shops but offer great views of surrounding countryside and should be used as a base for exploring (especially local beaches)

Bohans Barn is a hidden gem.

The house is comfortable and spacious and has everything you would need. It is situated down a small lane and has no passing traffic at all. This makes it so peaceful and quiet. On arrival Gillian had left a breakfast package for us which was so thoughtful. Gillian was so friendly and chatted to us about the local area and places she thought we may like to visit. We had 2 teenagers with us and the house was spacious enough to allow everyone to have their own room and space. We would definitely go back to Bohans Barn. Thanks Gillian.

The house was spotless and the kitchen very well equipped with every appliance you could need.

We had a lovely few nights in front of the wood burning stove. Plenty of hot water & extra towels, pillows, throws if needed. The beds & sofas were super comfy which was very important for my elderly mother who travelled with us. The kids loved the outdoor space & the quiet lane they could cycle down not to mention the 3 horses in the field. We really appreciated the breakfast items left for us in the fridge! I highly recommend Bohans Barn to anyone & I am only sorry we booked for 3 nights & not longer!

Great experience.

Everything you need provided - only thing you’ll need to buy while you’re there is groceries. Cottage itself was well laid out and very comfortable. Good fibre broadband connection with no Wi-Fi dead spots. Good selection of food items in fridge to get you started. Very secluded location, with about ten minute drive to nearest shops in Crossmolina, or twenty minutes or so into Ballina

Lovely cottage in a very beautiful part of Ireland.

Gillian was a perfect host - friendly, welcoming and informative and her horses were equally friendly! The cottage is very well-equipped and cosy with comfortable beds and plenty of bathroom facilities which is great for our family of five. There’s lots to do in the surrounding area. We recommend Céide Fields and a trip to Belmullet. Ballina is the nearest large town with lots of interesting little shops and very friendly folk. We’d definitely return to the cottage and the area.

Es war sauber, die Betten sehr bequem. Gillian ist eine sehr nette Gastgeberin, leider haben wir sie erst kurz vor der Abreise kennengelernt. Alles in allem ein tolles Urlaubsdomizil, sehr empfehlenswert. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Bohan’s barn is a gem of a holiday home which is furnished to the highest standard: our every need was anticipated. It is spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The setting in the small wood offered us opportunities to see hares in garden, deer and the wonderful horses both in the stables and in the field. I can not recommend Bohan’s Barn enough: it is within easy reach of the towns of Crossmolina, Ballina, Castlebar and Foxford; We visited wonderful beaches at beaches Ballycastle, Ross, Carrowmore Lacken and Enniscrone; Stunning geography and dramatic scenery at Downpatrick; a short drive took is to Belmullet and Achill. North Mayo is truly magnificent and Bohan’s Barn is ideal to tour its rugged beauty…we will be back. Thanks Gillian and Eamonn.

It was our second visit at the cottage.

We were happy to see the horses again. It was like coming home. Nice to sit in front of the fireplace and play games with the kids and watch Netflix. Plenty of space for everyone. Nice place to take long walks in the forest. We have already booked our next visit. Thank you!

Bohan barn is a beautiful Irish country house.

We were welcome by Gillian and her 3 beautiful horses. She baked us a wonderful bread and left some jam, eggs and wine. The house has everything you need for a family and a kitchen with everything to cook a nice meal. The beds are so comfortable, house really clean. It is a quiet house in the middle of a forest. We are looking forward to going again!
