  • "We had a nice stay at Two Hollens, the property is in a great location and the views out of the front window are stunning."

However there were a few things that could have been better. There was no property information booklet containing the WiFi password, instructions on how to use the appliances, or what to do with the bins etc. We contacted you about this on Monday 14 and you sent us instructions for the bins and provided the WiFi password so thanks for sorting that out. However we were still without WiFi on the Saturday and Sunday and we had to work out how to use the washing machine ourselves. The washing machine filter was blocked so when we tried to use it, it wouldn’t work properly. We worked out how to unblock the filter and get it working but this was frustrating and we shouldn’t have had to do it. The washing machine also had a lot of what looked like dog hairs in it which were all over the clothes we washed. This didn’t seem right considering the property is meant to be dog free. The main bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied and was full when we arrived. We didn’t really see why we should empty this so we left it for the week and didn’t empty it when we left. We stripped the beds we used before we left because this is what we have been asked to do at other properties we have rented. We didn’t use the upstairs bedroom so we left those sheets/towels where they were.

Hi Giles, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. While I am truly sorry that aspects of your stay did not meet the standard we aim to provide, I am genuinely grateful for your feedback as it enables us to identify issues and take corrective action. I was particularly concerned to read your comments regarding the dog hair. Pets are not permitted at the property under any circumstances, so I am appalled to hear this and will be investigating the matter thoroughly with our cleaning and property management teams. I would also like to reassure you regarding the washing machine. The appliance is a brand-new Samsung Series 5 washer dryer with an 8kg load capacity, so I am sorry if this was not clear during your stay or if you experienced any difficulties using it. With regard to the WiFi, please accept my apologies. It appears that the house information booklet, which contains comprehensive instructions on the WiFi and all other facilities within the home, had been removed or misplaced. This has now been replaced to ensure future guests have all the information they need and do not experience similar disruption. Your comments regarding the bin are equally unacceptable, and I will be raising this directly with the cleaning company. My regular cleaner, who is normally outstanding and takes great pride in the property, was unfortunately on leave during your visit. Clearly the home was not prepared to the usual standard that I expect, and for that I sincerely apologise. Finally, thank you for being such caring and considerate guests and for taking the time to provide honest feedback. It is invaluable in helping me maintain the standards I expect for all visitors, and I hope that despite these issues you were still able to enjoy your time in the area. Kind regards, Faye Property Owner

After pulling into the designated parking space, pause to admire the sweeping views across the Langdale ridges, a spectacular backdrop that makes the short walk to the property unforgettable.

The handsome stone exterior, framed by large windows, hints at the elegance within.

Step inside to a hallway laid with original flagstone flooring, a timeless feature that sets the tone for the stylish interiors throughout.

Continue into the kitchen, where the same flagstone flooring flows underfoot, complemented by chic light trim and tasteful artwork.

A generous breakfast bar invites relaxed mornings with steaming mugs of tea and conversation, while sleek surfaces and high-end appliances make cooking a joy.

A substantial dining table stands ready for memorable meals, while a stone feature wall and soft textures add warmth and character.

Before heading upstairs, indulge in the ground-floor bathroom, a sanctuary of luxury with a jacuzzi bath, shimmering tiles, and copper and gold finishes that gleam beneath the subtle light trim around the ceiling.

Then climb the quirky staircase to the twin bedroom, a charming retreat complete with en-suite basin and WC, ideal for guests seeking privacy.

Outside, the fabulous terrace beckons with uninterrupted vistas of the Langdale ridges and beyond, elevating alfresco dining to an art form.

A gentle stroll leads to a traditional pub and a well-stocked village shop, while the River Rothay meanders nearby, inviting peaceful walks.

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
