This is a ‘stunner’ of a property!
Well equipped, spotless, good layout and super views of the countryside. We celebrated a significant family birthday with 11 of us (4 kids and 7 adults). Lots of games available to keep us occupied when the weather wasn’t so great.
Hi Barclay, Thanks for such a positive review. We are glad to hear Oakwood House was such a great place to celebrate the birthday with the family. We hope to host you again! Oakwood Team
******No toilet on lounge floor, poor design******.
Towels on windowsill soaking up leak from front window, poor first impression. Depleted kitchen equipment, no serving spoons, flexible spatulas. Additional soup ladle if cooking for seven guests. No lids for microwave containers. No steaming pans for veg. Generally poor finish on maintainance, eg. Shower Sealant. Quick “How To Guides” on equipment would have helped. iPad quite on premises was pretty useless.
Hi Lindsay, Thanks for your review and feedback. We hope you an enjoyable stay. We appreciate your thoughts on the design, and we recognise that people have many preferences. Our early engagement work suggested that for large groups, peoples preference was to have individual bathrooms where people could enjoy some privacy. Apologies if this did not meet expectations. We have noted some of your suggestions to enhance the kitchen supplies further, and will look to introduce a number of these alongside our other utensils. We’re sorry if the how to guide was not made available, as there is usually one supplied in the property. We are in the process of implementing the iPads with the intent to produce walk-through videos to support navigating some of the modern features of the house, so your feedback is helpful in identifying that we are on the right track. We would be more than happy to host you in the future. Oakwood Team
Our 3rd visit as a group of friends.
A great location, fantastic space and everyone gets their own bathroom
It’s not often that a property is even better than the photos, but that was certainly the case with Oakwood House!
We had the most fabulous weekend here with friends and absolutely loved it. The house is beautiful, spacious and incredibly well equipped, with everything you could possibly need provided. The setting is just stunning – peaceful, idyllic countryside with the most beautiful sunsets and views. It really was the perfect place to relax, catch up and enjoy time together. We also loved The Gate Inn, the local pub, which was excellent and well worth a visit. Oakwood House completely exceeded our expectations and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. We had such a wonderful stay and are already hoping to return. Thank you for a fantastic weekend!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that Oakwood House exceeded your expectations, and it's always lovely to hear that it lives up to (and beyond!) the photos. It sounds like you had the perfect weekend with friends – those countryside sunsets really are something special, and we're so pleased you had the chance to relax and enjoy them together. We're also delighted you made it to The Gate Inn; it's a firm favourite of ours too! It was a real pleasure to host you, and we'd love to welcome you back to Oakwood House whenever you're ready for your next getaway. The Oakwood Team
Perfect stay for a family that needed space to enjoy each other but not be on top of each other.
Well-equipped and comfortable with good instructions and ideas for local attractions. Minor point but no loo on the main living floor but not an issue for us.
Hi Adrian, Thanks for your feedback. We were pleased to hear you enjoyed the space and made the most of the house. Glad you liked our small touches, and ideas! Hope to host you again. Oakwood Team
Oakwood House is a beautiful place to stay, from the house itself to the area it’s in.
We were pleasantly surprised that the house looked exactly like its photos, which isn’t always the case. It was extremely clean, well organised, was well catered for in terms of facilities (hairdryers, fans, board games etc), and the rooms were well lit, airy, comfortable and spacious. There were 9 of us on this trip and we all had the best time. The house made the whole trip so much better just because of how lovely it was. The area itself was great too. Two different pubs to choose from, both with great atmospheres and menus. We also did the Lumsdale Falls walk which was just right and had amazing views! Sykes Cottages and the owners of Oakwood House were also really great to work with. All questions, queries and problems were answered and dealt with in great time with no trouble. Overall, a fantastic trip and we would absolutely book this house again in future! Big thank you from us all!
Hi Emily Thank you so much for your review and feedback. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the property and all we have to offer in the area. We put a lot of care and effort into presenting the property to a high standard, so we’re really pleased that you found it a comfortable place to stay. The Gate Inn is an excellent place to stop in for a meal. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes, The Oakwood Team
Excellent facilities and very comfortable.
The fans in the bedrooms helped us cope with the hot weather during our stay.
Hi Ann Thank you so much for your review and feedback. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the property. We put a lot of care and effort into presenting the property to a high standard, so we’re really pleased that you found it a comfortable place to stay. Glad to hear the fans were a welcome addition. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes, The Oakwood Holidays Team
Beautiful property with everything in superb condition.
Spotlessly clean. Well equipped kitchen and a lovely welcome pack courtesy of The Gate Inn. A few minutes walk to a homely pub, The Tavern. Best food at The Gate Inn, highly recommended. Only things I would have liked was somewhere to sit to do make-up and hair, in the upstairs bedroom and a towel rail in the en-suite. Great property, wouldn't hesitate to recommend or return.
Very comfortable and clean property.
We had a lovely week and also fortunate with the weather. Lovely location and eateries close by.
A clean and well presented property with some luxury touches exactly as described.
It is located in the centre of a new housing development with unfinished roads and a number of resident barking dogs. It was a shame to find that additional facilities to hang and dry towels in the ensuite had still not been provided. There were only 2 badly placed hooks, only suitable for the guests towels, meaning the huge bath sheets had to be dried over the shower cubicle. A trickle vent in the upstairs bedroom was broken and whilst someone had tried to tape this up it didn't stop the wind rattling through. The Venetian blinds were inadequate to stop the light coming through especially the outside light from the neighbouring property which flashed on and off constantly throughout the night. Whilst not everyone self caters, the crockery was minimal and mismatched, with only very small dinner plates provided. Overall not a property I would return to.
Amazing house, a thoughtfully created, multi-generational-friendly space.
Warm, bright, spacious and well equipped. Some lovely helpful touches such as phone chargers in every room, great range of games and a generous welcome pack. Lost one star for comfort as whilst they were fine if you slouched in them , we found the sofas quite low-backed with limited neck support if you tried to sit up in them - but that could be our age!
This property was perfect for oor weekend , joining together with friends.
The facilities were of high quality and everything you could need. All the bedrooms were beautifully designed with smart TV. Excellent walking near by which was perfect. We would certainly come back if it was available.
Lovely property in a great relaxing village location.
Clean, well maintained property with even the little things thought of (charging cables in all the rooms and fully equipped kitchen) The Gate Inn is a short 5 minute walk and is a great place to eat or just pop for a drink. If visiting for a special occasion, we would recommend contacting fox fine dining for a great value private dining experience!
We loved Oakwood House.
We were 5 so everyone had a room and bathroom to themselves. Beds were super comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Living area spacious and homely. It was warm (although the downstairs bedrooms were a bit cool). At times too warm upstairs and we never got the hang of the thermostats. It was near to so many interesting places and the local pub was great. One of our best trips ever.
Absolutely stunning property!
Plenty of everything (space, utensils, storage, seating etc) and all good quality. We have stayed twice and would love to find somewhere like this in another part of the country, but it is going to be hard to find!
Oakwood House is in a perfect location to access the Peak District.
The property is very spacious, light and airy. The beds are extremely comfortable, chargers at the bedside, the towels fluffy and each en-suite very efficient. We were pleased that each bedroom had a fan which was very welcome during the heatwave, and blinds. The welcome pack was a nice addition and property information and local recommendations very informative. The kitchen is very well equipped with ample crockery and utensils, and there is plenty of seating in the open plan living and dining area. The garden area is equally well laid out with a barbecue, lots of outdoor seating areas and a sizeable lawn with wonderful views. Overall the property is very well maintained, extremely clean and was a wonderful base for our multi generational get- together. Thank you!
Fabulous property for a family gathering.
Had everything you could wish for and more including extra plates and glasses. Very luxurious and we had an amazing week with such beautiful views from the front. Would highly recommend. Struggled a bit with the fridge size for the amount of food and drinks needed for that size of house and had a problem with the oven not cooking properly. Owner did offer to get someone in but we didn’t want the disruption.
There were great facilities all round with en-suite bathrooms and televisions in everyone room.
It was much appreciated that basic amenities were provided. The owner, Alan, was very courteous and dealt with a small leak in the kitchen immediately. The garden was a great feature and the kitchen, dining room and lounge area was spacious and well laid out. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Overall, an excellent holiday home furnished and equipped to a very high standard.
BEAUTIFUL HOUSE, EVERYTHING YOU WOULD NEED FOR A BREAK AWAY, CLOSE TO PUBS AND LOCAL VILLAGE ATTRACTIONS, FANTASTIC VIEWS FROM THE GORGEOUS HOUSE, WOULD RETURN
This was an incredibly modern property, and such an incredible place to stay in the beautiful English countryside.
There was more than enough space for 10 adults to stay comfortably, and many things to see nearby. We highly recommend the Crich Tramway Village. Our only point of feedback was that the property would benefit from better ventilation - the floor to ceiling doors look luxury but we weren’t always comfortable leaving them ajar to let air in whilst we slept, some windows or desk fans would have helped!
The house is absolutely beautiful, in a lovely quite village and only a 30 minute walk to Matlock.
The house has plenty of space, very clean and well equipped, everything you could possibly need is catered for. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the bed linen is spotless. We were very grateful for the welcome pack as well.
A fantastic property- ideal for a group, we had everything we needed and the host communicated well.
I'm sure we'll be back!
Fantastic house, 7 of us stayed for 3 nights and had a great time.
Plenty of space and good quality furnishings and kitchen equipment. Felt like home from home. Superb views across the valley from the sitting room windows. Had a lovely walk from the house through the Lumsdale Valley and had the best Sunday Roast at the Gate Inn in the village, great to be able to walk to from the house too. Would definitely recommend
The house was just fabulous!
Fabulous property.
8 of us stayed ( 4 couples) to enjoy a trip to chatsworth xmas Market and house. We had a wonderful time. We would not hesitate to recommend or re-book. Although be quick as the calendar is pretty full for next yr already ( we looked for NYE 24/25, it's booked) Never we'll have to decide on another date for our return
Oakwood house was beautiful.
It had everything we needed and more. It had plenty of space for 7 adults, a child and a dog! It was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a large garden for the dog to roam around The location was great, near to pubs, shops and nice walks ( to pubs and a local brewery mainly ) A lovely stay. Hope to be back again soon.
Amazing house with everything we needed for a family get together.
A great location with a couple of nice pubs locally and close to Matlock. Would definitely recommend this house
The house was perfect for 5 couples, great facilities, great location to Matlock.
The house is a fantastic space for friends and family.
Each room has its own bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need as well as the rest of the house. We stayed in February so couldn’t really enjoy the outside space but I imagine in the warmer months being outside with a bbq would be fantastic. The village it’s self is lovely and we would recommend a roast at the nearby Gate Inn.
Fantastic property, well equipped and furnished to a very high standard.
Parking for 5 cars is a little tight (we just managed with 4) and there is no toilet/cloakroom on the "living" floor so elderly guests have to climb stairs. The outside bins were full when we arrived (a Monday) and we struggled to dispose of waste. Notwithstanding these minor items we had a fabulous stay - lots to do and see and a good nights' sleep. Highly recommended!
Oakwood House is a fantastic property in a great location.
The fixtures and fittings are wonderful, the kitchen is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. Having the laundry room is a great bonus, as is a bathroom for each bedroom. It is easy walking distance to two good pubs, and there are numerous hiking trails and sightseeing opportunities. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and hope to return in the future.
Excellent spacious property great location 2 pubs within walking distance ideal for your dog as garden is wonderful for them to run around we had a fantastic time would highly recommend thankyou
Beautiful accommodation.
Missing a living area toilet but we managed
The house was lovely and very spacious for 8 of us.
we found everything there what was needed in the kitchen area and a lovely complimentry basket. The bedrooms were all brilliant couldn't fault anything I would highly reccomend this property. The local pubs were excellent and very friendly.
This really is a fabulous house and is exactly as advertised.
Everything has been fitted out with top end products and the views are just another bonus! A great place for any large gathering and if you happen to be into walking, it couldn't be in a finer location. With The Gate Inn just around the corner, it really is perfect.
We really enjoyed our stay at Oakwood House.
It is a lovely house with great views and well designed particularly the kitchen/dining/living area which is very spacious. The location is excellent in terms of visiting tourist attractions- most no more than 30 mins drive and some well under. Alicja
A wonderful house in a great location.
Great facilities and a great space for our group of 9. Slight issue to report back with blind control on kitchen window which fell off. Otherwise all was good. Hope to return next year.
The property is wonderful, well appointed with many luxury features.
We had a few issues, nothing we couldn't deal with, however: The fridge hadn't been cleaned properly, crumbs on the shelves. The dining table was sticky, the outside table was dirty. We didn't find the extra cutlery drawer (inside the pan drawer) until the 3rd day, just assumed there wasn't a vegetable peeler. The second last day there was a dreadful smell emanating from the sink but no bleach or disinfectant. We coped with boiling water. There were no hooks in some bathrooms for hanging up a bathrobe. No heated towel rails - towels dried because the house was warm. Some of us had a large gap below the shower door, causing a puddle on the floor. We appreciated the instant hot water, the comfortable beds (all arranged in the configuration we requested) and charging leads provided.
We had a great stay and all said that it was the best holiday home we had been in so far.
One small improvement for us, as dog owners, would be a gate at the side of the property so the back garden could be completely enclosed. But we managed to fill the gap with some chairs so it wasn't a problem. Apart from that it was perfect, very modern with multi-device chargers everywhere and loads of kitchen equipment, plus having bathrooms for each bedroom was a fantastic touch.
A beautiful house with beautiful views, with everything you need and very clean.
Oakwood house has a lovely, quiet enclosed rear garden, great for the children to play games. The rocky climb up to it wasn't a problem for us but the patio area is certainly good enough to enjoy the outside if some find it too steep. We, a family of 10 and a dog, had a fantastic holiday. It's situated very close to Matlock, my husband and me walked there, but it's 5 minutes in the car. I would without doubt stay there again and highly recommend
I would really like to give the rating a 4.
5 but no the option for this. There are a few things, the garden has not be attended to in quite some time so lots if weeds including the planters at the front. The oven was very unclean and the dining table was very sticky. We loved the house overall however the layout was great for our 3 families, beautifully appointed and had everything you could need.
Ideal property for multi family get together.
Great outdoor and indoor space. All the facilities you need and board games and smart tvs also a bonus.
Great property but only fault is the garden being listed as fully enclosed when there isn’t any side gate to keep dogs secure in garden.
A SUPERB PROPERTY THAT ABSORBED/ACCOMMODATED FIVE COUPLES WITH EASE.
CLEANLINESS, COMFORT AND FACILITIES WERE EXCELLENT. THANK YOU.
Excellent accommodation, excellent venue with a great pub nearby!
Perfect for our family celebrations
Great property, everything you could ask for was on hand for the 10 family members we had.
You should highlight the great view from the lounge and 2 front facing upper bedrooms. We have already booked for a week next year.
Such a lovely house, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, views were amazing.
Would definitely recommend to one and all. If I could point out a couple of minor things, the main oven may have been mistakenly over looked as it could do with a clean, also more detailed instructions on turning up heating as we could not turn it up and downstairs bedrooms were cold. Would we stay again? Absolutely, in-fact already booked for next year.
This property is beautiful!
So good that we have booked for July 2025. The patio area could do with a clean up of fag ends and a barbecue would be good to have, also a gate to the side for people who bring dogs and children….

A fantastic holiday let for large family groups or groups of friends.
Location is great for access to all the local sites & amenities for both young & old. A good base from which to explore the Peak District, beautiful views, and easy access to local walks.
Fabulous property.
Plenty of room for our group, very clean, well equipped and amazing views. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this gorgeous house.
Oakwood house was a wonderful property for my family to enjoy a special birthday celebration.
The house is immaculate and all the fittings and furnishings are of a very high standard. We loved the open plan living area to be together for meals and plenty of space to relax. All appreciated the lovely bedrooms , comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms ! The views are wonderful from the house too ! We highly recommend The Gate Inn for Sunday lunch ! Hopefully we will be back again for another family get together as it was perfect !
The house was excellent and very well kitted out except the towels were very small (and none of us are large people).
We’d expect bath sheets in a house of this standard. There’s nothing you can do about the roof but the sound of heavy rain kept us all awake one night. The pillows in the main bedroom were rock hard. I don’t know about the other bedrooms. These issues apart, it’s a fabulous rental and we were very happy. Thank you.
There were 8 adults in our party, and we all thought the property was great, we really enjoyed our long weekend.
We enjoyed the food in the Gate Inn and also did the Sunday night quiz at the Tavern. We have done a lot of weekends away like this as a group and some of them had a games room. The bedroom downstairs without an en suit would make a great one. Thanks for a great stay in a lovely house.
We stayed for a week to celebrate my daughter’s first Christmas with her grandparents and what a special week it was.
The house is absolutely fantastic, with a superb open plan kitchen/dining/living space and generously sized bedrooms - perfect for entertaining and socialising, as well as privacy and solitude when needed. The views are spectacular and the local area is picturesque with 2 fab pubs close by. There are baby gates, high chairs and a cot available making it very infant/child friendly and the kitchen has every utensil you could wish for, a great help when rustling up our Christmas Day feast. There are only 2 cons and they are very minor; 1 being we found it very hard to turn the heating down and the secondly the bath towels are small so I’d recommend taking your own. Aside from that, it was everything we hoped for and more - we will without a doubt be back! Thank you so much
Lovely property, well equipped & good facilities.
Excellent location
A spacious stylish house with high quality furniture and fittings.
Quiet location in a pretty village handy for walks, attractions and a good pub. Super showers, very comfy beds in a variety of configurations. A bath in one en suite-good for young children. Plenty of storage. A very well equipped kitchen with just about everything a large self catering group might need (could do with a sieve and some serving spoons please). Plenty of pans, cutlery and crockery etc. There’s a great steeply terraced garden with a warm water hose for washing the dog, various sitting areas and a lawn as well as a giant rockery (care needed for the very young and the older person..). The living area is great for the large tv and board game playing. Plenty of local information. There are lots of dining chairs and four large sofas and a chair in the open plan sitting area, all of which are very comfortable. Altogether a house which is very stylish but also super practical for a large multi generation family party. Glass topped tables take the fear out of toddler meals! Talking of which there are stair gates, high chairs and cots available. A nice welcome pack, plenty of sockets (even near mirrors!) and charging cables are provided. Good WiFi and off street parking all go to make this a really fantastic holiday home. The owner responded very quickly and helpfully to our queries. It’s on three floors so plenty of stairs to keep you fit for the peaks…
Exceptional !
Beautifully presented, high quality simply perfect for what we needed. The owner is delightful-we met Alan couple of times including at the gate Inn where he had a bottle of wine gifted to our table
This house was amazing!
We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it. Everything you could need is there. If we ever return to the area we would definitely book again.
Hi Sally, Thanks for your feedback!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us! We would be happy to host you again in the future. Oakwood Team
Top class accommodation in a great location!
Was a lovely big specious house.
And we enjoyed our stay there. Just a few things was wee bit of a nuisance, was the shower in the master bedroom kept blocking, which meant one of us had to use another shower in another members room. Also two other shower doors were letting out water as well. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Ps. I did report the master bedroom problem. And did say they would report it to maintenance team, but we were expecting someone to come out during our stay. Thanks. John Lannigan.
Lovely house in a great location
Stunning property with awesome views, made for a relaxing weekend that wasn’t long enough
Lovely property ideal for our purpose of 4 couples meeting up for a short break, going for walks and eating out.
The property was clean, tidy and well equipped.
We were impressed with the quality of the furnishing and fittings. We couldn’t fault it at all. It was lovely and in a perfect location with plenty of choice for places to visit. The Lewis/Whitehouse family
Beautiful home perfect for our needs.
Will definitely be back.
We stayed here last year as was so impressed we came back but this time it was nowhere near as clean as last year!
Dirty oven Floors not clean, dirty footprints on the floor and dirty toilet in the teal room. One of the controls to the blinds hanging off by the dinner table. Patio area needs a good clean up and a broken broom by the dog wash. Plants in the garden neglected and lots of weeds which lets this beautiful property down. Nice to see a new gate to the side but should be a taller gate with a lock! Windows in the teal room and bronze room will not stay open either. Not impressed this time I’m afraid.
Oakwood House was great.
We were there for a family get together with 3 generations from 1 year old to much older and it suited us all so well. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed to make a good meal. The living space gave us the space to play games and sit down together. We were in contact with the hosts before we arrived and asked if a barbecue could be provided and they arranged this for us. Communication was fantastic. It felt that, if possible, they would try to meet our requests. We had a great time in a great house in a lovely location. We would definitely consider coming back again in the future.
A lovely property but not perfect as you would expect.
Large window blind down broken with outside widow broken would have been nice to have been notified before arrival as darkened the room. A property of this standard should have had a Coffee Machine. An automatic outside light would have been an asset to show the step up to the front door. Hand wash in bathroom where almost empty and no bags to put used bedding in at end of our visit.
2nd Year we have stayed here with 10 adults - plenty of room and really good facilities.
The 2 pubs close by and easy access to the lakes made it a simple choice to come back 2 years in a row.
Very comfortable & well equipped house.
Wonderful for a family occasion. Accommodated three generations in relaxed comfort. Tastefully furnished & in a lovely setting. Very convenient for sight seeing & walking in the area.
As a group of 11 family members the house was great.
The bedrooms were lovely, beds really comfy and each having an en-suite was a bonus. The sitting area was a great communal space to sit and chat and play games, we loved the balcony and the view was beautiful. Kitchen was well equipped and enough room again to get around and prepare food together. The weather was a bit damp so we didn’t make use of the garden only to access the walks from the gate at the top of the garden. The owner was very accommodating and communication was really quick. Thanks for a wonderful stay, we’ll definitely be returning!
Our second stay at Oakwood, our ladies annual trip away, what a lovely house, very spacious, clean, comfortable, relaxing, high standard of all conveniences.
All bedrooms so spacious, bathrooms, modern, large and well equipped. You would enjoy your stay at Oakwood of that I have no doubt. I’m sure we will be returning.
Oakwood House is a brilliant house for a get together.
This is the second time my friends and I have stayed here for our annual get together and I doubt it will be our last. It's really well appointed, very clean and has everything you could wish for (apart from a whisk to whisk my eggs
Absolutely fantastic property, warm, spacious, clean, practical, well equipped - loved everything - the cottage is in a lovely spot near to 2 local pubs.
Had lovely country walks close by and about 40 minute walk into Matlock . Without doubt we will be returning.
