  • "On first impressions, everything looked good – a good welcome hamper, but on investigating further, there were many shortcomings: 1."

The shower floor was slippery plus a low roof beam made it in our opinion hazardous- no shower mat was provided so we used one of the hand towels. 2. The kettle and toaster shared a single plug point which was not only difficult to reach, but one had to stretch over the cooker to reach it and also be careful not to allow the toaster cable to touch the kettle lest it melt. (Standard electric cables are rated to withstand 70°C, not 100°C!). 3. We could not find the fuse box. 4. The info pack did not explain where the rubbish bins were, not did it give details of doctor, dentist, vet or A&E. 5. There were no instruction leaflets for the equipment in the flat (cooker, TV, thermostat etc). 6. Internet modem only supported the most modern of devices – my iPhone worked, but my Windows 8 laptop did not. 7. There were no information leaflets about attractions in the district. 8. No broom or vacuum cleaner were supplied – only a dustpan and brush so if sugar was spilt onto the carpet, there was no means to clean it up. 9. Cutlery and crockery were minimal – four single-course settings with no wine glasses which meant that if four people were having a two-course meal cutlery would have to be washed up between courses. 10. Insufficient drying space for four people’s towels.

Hi Martin, Thank you for your feedback. We take guest comments seriously, but would like to clarify a few points for future guests. The property was immaculately prepared. We left a welcome card, wine spritzer and complimentary basket, plus a guest guide covering WiFi, parking, kitchen facilities, places to eat, walks, days out, emergency information and check out details. We remained contactable via Sykes throughout your stay. Three shower mats were provided, one visible in the listing photographs, along with six large bath towels, smaller towels, several hooks, a towel rail, radiators and a laundry basket. The kitchen has two electrical points. The kettle cable is adjustable, with additional cable stored beneath the base which can be unwound as required. We have also added an extension lead following your feedback. Four complete place settings were provided for two guests. The bins are inside the property and you were shown where they were. A dustpan and brush were provided; a vacuum cleaner is not advertised. The cooker, TV and thermostat are standard appliances, although we will consider adding guidance. The WiFi was working normally and connected to your iPhone. As your laptop was running Windows 8, the issue may have been device related. The electrical consumer unit is in a secured area downstairs and is not intended for guest access. Any electrical concern should be reported so it can be dealt with safely. No concerns were raised during your stay. Had you contacted us via Sykes, we would have investigated immediately. We welcome constructive feedback and will improve where appropriate. What is disappointing is receiving a one star review after a week’s stay without any opportunity to address these concerns, particularly when several items criticised were already provided. A one star rating suggests an unacceptable experience, which we do not believe fairly reflects the accommodation or the care taken to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Property Owner
