  • "Excellent cottage at the end of a distinctive village a few miles from the sea."

Have stayed here before and want to stay again next year. Very clean, up to date and well presented. Small garden at the back for breakfasts of teas with seats and a small table. Plenty of kitchen equipment for cooking with a decent sized freezer on top of a fridge.

  • "Garden furniture needs replacing."

    Otherwise perfect.

We are very happy to hear you had a good holiday. We are sorry to hear you were not happy with the garden furniture. All furniture is less than 3 years old and is of very good quality. The cedar wood love seats were treated last year. We appreciate it's not matching furniture but it is all of good, durable high quality which is suitable for a garden that does not have anywhere to store furniture during the winter months. • "Lovely cottage."

Tea, milk, biscuits and a bottle of wine were very kindly left. A nice welcome. The cottage is near the local bus stop. Very useful for getting to Sidmouth and Exmouth. We ate at the Kings Arms great food and very dog friendly. We walked down the river to Budleigh Salterton and caught the bus back. To finish with a cream tea at the mill. In fact the cottage is perfect and all you could wish for in location. We are already looking at dates to return.

There was everything available in the kitchen you could wish for. There was a Welcome Pack on the kitchen table tea, biscuits and a bottle of wine also there was milk in the fridge so we were able to have a cup of tea before unpacking the car. The beds were very comfortable. Although we didn't use the garden with it being cold I can see in the warmer months sitting out there in the evening. Housekeeping excellent standard.

The cottage was very clean and very well equipped. The enclosed garden is wonderful for anyone with dogs (or children). We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to go back soon. The walks nearby are beautiful, and we were lucky enough to have the week with the best weather so far this year!

  • "All you need to know about a holiday property is does the description accurately reflect what you find, what are the things that can’t be described."

Most importantly therefore, yes, the property and all the kitchen utensils were perfectly clean. Did everything work? Yes, and better we heard from Lesley in advance that the hairdryer didn’t so made alternative arrangements. Better than that, although we actually took a bag of our own logs and kindling, there was a good supply at the property, useful as the weather was a bit damp for our week. Other incidentals that visitors might like to know, at the time of our visit, the village pub, the Kings Arms, was open everyday serving decent food and importantly, four well kept cask ales and there’s a community shop, open for essentials. Information on everything else, walking and local attractions for example, of which there is obviously plenty of both, is found elsewhere.

The village setting is wonderful as are the local facilities :- Village shop, Otterton Mill & Kings Arms Pub.We had one very minor problem which the owner very quickly sorted for us which service only enhanced our liking for the cottage.

The garden is pretty, fully enclosed and peaceful, our dog loved sunning himself out there. Lots of information in the comprehensive guest welcome folder, we also loved the goodies left for us! The owner Lesley was lovely, really friendly and helpful. We loved the village of Otterton, and ate at the King's Arms pub on one occasion, which was very good. The area has so much to do and see, we really enjoyed Sidmouth and Beer, and also the Donkey Sanctuary nearby, we also ventured further afield to Dawlish, Torquay and Paignton. Nice little touches left by her on arrival such as fresh milk, wine and fruit juice. After a 6 hour drive it was a treat to find the beautiful thatched cottage lovely and warm and the owner had kindly provided provisions, even a bottle of fizz for New Year.. The cottage was well equipped, very comfortable and with the woodburner ideal for a winter break. The location was great for visiting other coastal towns and villages, perfect for walking from and the village of Offerton had a historic watermill, farmshop and gallery, selling delicious fresh bread. The property

Otterton is a pretty village in one of Devon's most beautiful coastal valleys between the stylish Regency town of Sidmouth and the Victorian resort of Budleigh Salterton.

On the approach to the village is Otterton Mill, a working water mill powered by the River Otter, around which has grown up a cafe serving delicious food, an exhibition gallery showing local arts and crafts and a venue where popular music nights take place.

In Otterton is Robin Cottage, a Grade II listed thatched property full of character and utterly charming.

Everything here has been carefully chosen, in the comfortable lounge there is a wood burning stove and the smart kitchen/diner which has a tiled floor and wooden table and chairs overlooks the garden.

A wooden spiral staircase leads to two very pretty bedrooms, a double with views over the garden towards the hills beyond and a second smaller bedroom at the front of the cottage.

The sheltered garden is enclosed and laid to lawn with a small patio area, table and chairs.

The beach at Ladram Bay is only half a mile away, here pale grey shingle contrasts against the deep, rich, red cliffs and you can join the South Devon Coast Path.

About the location

OTTERTON

Budleigh Salterton 3 miles; Sidmouth 3 miles.

Set back from the coast among the rolling green countryside and wooded valleys of beautiful East Devon, this pretty village with its collection of traditionally thatched roofed cottages is straight from a picture postcard. Offering a quieter but no less beautiful holiday destination than the rest of the county it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind, and is just 3 miles from the Regency coastal resort towns of both Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path as it meanders above the waves towards the World Heritage Site ‘Jurassic Coast’ beaches with their abundant fossils. Ladram Bay with its red-stone sea stacks is just one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the banks of the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife play while just down the road from the village is Bicton Park and Botanical Gardens, 60 acres of garden lovers’ paradise. For a really interesting hour or two, visit the last working flour mill on the river Otter - it’s in the village and the flour is superb. There’s much to do and see in this beautiful and unspoilt area but if you want to explore further afield, the open spaces and high tors of Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour while the Cathedral city of Exeter with its superb shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is a mere 10 miles.
