  • "Excellent location in the centre of the village."

Drive is narrow(!) but entirely passable with care. Hosts very welcoming. Barn is immaculate, spotlessly clean and well appointed. If there was one thing, we prefer a softer bed and fuller pillows but taking your own isn’t a big deal and it’s entirely personal choice that the hosts can’t reasonably accommodate. Would stay again.

Fantastic location in the heart of Asburton with its excellent independant shops with good access to the coast and moors. We loved our stay here.

  • "Lovely cottage, new build but in keeping with surroundings."

Well placed with short walk to town shops (wonderful fish deli is one minute walk away). Very clean inside, great layout and thoughtful touches such as film and book collection (and biscuits!). Owner met and chatted to us. I would advise checking car width and arriving in daylight on first day due to narrow lane at property.

Contrary to Sykes details, items such as oven gloves and tea towels were provided, as was a welcome pack of tea & coffee and biscuits along with milk in the fridge. Owners were very friendly and helpful, would recommend staying here and access lane was exactly as listed and no issue for family car.

  • "Excellent quality accomodation that was cleaned to a very high standard."

The owners were friendly and informative. We had a relatively large car, and with the wing mirrors folded in and one of us guiding the driver through the narrowest part of the access drive, this was not a problem. The Exeter Inn was a favourite for a great range of drinks and good quality food (limited to Pizzas only on Monday and Tuesday of the week we visited - days when other restaurants appeared to be closed). The Red Mullet fish and chip shop was good, as was OPOP, a co-operative type new venture next to the Post Office, and the take away ice cream parlour at the end if the street. Local Co-Op and Spar provided adequate facilities of everyday foods, both open early until late. Ella, the artisan bakery was excellent (changing daily bakes listed on a blackboard in the window) - get there in time before stock runs out and the shop closes early/ mid afternoon). A couple of delicatessen and a fruit and veg shop give added variety. All are within a 5 minute walk of the cottage.

Cottage was excellent. Tea, coffee and milk available on arrival. Fresh flowers in every room. Location within 1 min walk of High Street and all amenities. Note the narrow drive entrance, we had a large vehicle, older Jeep Grand Cherokee, which pushed the limits, only about 25mm to spare each side, but ok with care.

  • "The location is good but as the Barn is located in a courtyard which is shared by other properties around the courtyard then of course there are no views and no private garden space."

The Barn is approached by a very narrow access bordered by other properties and it is very difficult to get a medium size car through, so it is important to note the access width given in Barn details. The wash basin tap in the En-Suite is fitted too close to the wall, prohibiting its proper use, very annoying. There is only a small selection of BBC Channels available(No other channels) on the TV, but there is a selection of DVDs .

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Old Armoury Barn. The Barn is exactly as described on our website, there is a private outside seating area allocated to Old Armoury Barn which is not overlooked by the neighbours. Due to the reverse level nature of the property, again as described online, the views are benefited from the 1st floor of the property over the Ashburton townscape to the hills and woods beyond - many guests find this delightful. We are sorry to hear you found manoeuvring your car difficult, again we are very specific in our online description regarding the size of the approaching lane and have had much larger vehicles access the property without trouble. Thank you for bringing the issue with the tap to our attention, we have notified the owner of the property who is arranging to have this fixed as soon as he is able, had you notified us during your stay, the owner would have happily tried to rectify this for you before your departure. Over 20 TV channels are available, due to the specification of the transmitter in this area, Freeview channels are not available, hence why we do not advertise Freeview as part of the TV package at Old Armoury Barn, if you were having difficulties with the television we would have been happy to assist you had you contacted us. Despite the points raised we hope you managed to enjoy your visit and the glorious September weather. Property Owner

  • "Mark and Jacqui were excellent hosts and the home baked scones and cake were very much appreciated."

Fresh flowers in all the rooms added a nice touch. The barn is very comfortable, spacious and spotless with quality furnishings, linen and towels. It was a novelty staying in a town, but Ashburton is very quiet and one doesn’t hear noise from the A38. The town is a delight with many independent shops: the fish deli was a particular favourite. One minor point: there is a small ice box freezer within the fridge so be aware if you do an online order. We had a delightful stay and would wholeheartedly recommend the barn.

  • "The cottage had everything we needed, and more."

There were homemade scones with cream and jam waiting for us on arrival and fresh flowers in the rooms. The kitchen was more than adequately stocked with cutlery and crockery. All the rooms were well furnished and spotlessly clean. The owners were very friendly and accommodating and provided us with bicycle storage. Excellent accommodation and if we go back to Devon then we will look no further than the Old Armoury Barn for accommodation.

  • "This property is simply amazing."

You will want for nothing when you stay. The owners greeted us warmly and even, once they knew the age of our children, brought round a selection of toys and games for them, plus extra towels in case we decided to travel to the beach. They also advised that if we needed anything at all, just let them know. The property is well positioned in the centre of Ashburton. The high street is a minutes walk away and has traditional shops like a bakers, a butchers and a delicatessen plus a host of antique/bric-a-brac shops and a brilliant guitar shop which was quite unexpected! There is a also a Spar and a Coop for your everyday food items. Ashburton itself is located just on the A39 which provides great access to other areas of Devon and then further into Cornwall. We visited The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project which were both just over and hours drive away. There is a plenty to see nearby too including England’s tallest waterfall at Canonteign Falls. Being on the edge of Dartmoor means a short drive puts you in the middle of a wilderness too which is great to explore. The property is very comfortable with lovely fixtures and fittings. Kitchen has a dishwasher, washer dryer, microwave, cooker and hob plus many, many utensils. Bedrooms have lots of space, built in wardrobes, en suite bathroom in the master bedroom and a separate bathroom too. Good size digital TVs in both bedrooms and a bigger tv in the living room. Good selection of films and books provided plus free access to WiFi which was very useful. Property has a parking space which is handy as the yard to which the property is attached is pretty tight. Access to the property is up a very narrow lane which we were aware of before we travelled but you get used to it. We have a VW Passat and it went up with the wing mirrors folded in. We really enjoyed our stay here and will really consider returning! Full credit to the owners for being so friendly and providing a wonderful property for our family holiday.

The house was immaculately decorated with all we could need (including some delicious homemade scones for our arrival). The house has DVDs, games and books too for the rainy days. You won’t be disappointed if you book. The parking is tricky and you need to be better drivers than us to navigate the narrow driveway to get to the front of the house. We gave up and used the towns car parks.

It still remains a very good place to stay. Very clean, modern and comfortable. I am fussy about where I stay and it meets our high standards! The owners are very friendly and welcoming and go above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need. They even provided us with spare beach towels, bucket and spade for our little one and toys to play with. The warm scones on arrival are a lovely touch too! WiFi is poor, and is the only thing that we would suggest could be improved. Thank you!

  • "I very much enjoyed my stay at Old Armoury Barn."

It's the perfect place to stay if you want to be right in the centre of Ashburton and yet have peace, and lovely views. There's no traffic noise at all. The upstairs sitting room and kitchen are modern and well designed, spacious and full of light. They look out over the rooftops and the hills beyond. The house is comfortable (including good mattresses) and well-equipped. I stayed in winter and the house was very warm. I was impressed by the efficiency of the electric radiators, and how easy it was to adjust the heat in each room. The owners were unfailingly helpful and kind. It was a real pleasure to have fresh flowers in the sitting room and bedrooms, and to be greeted with tasty home baked scones, with jam and clotted cream. The only improvements I'd suggest would be a salad spinner, small size paring and chopping knives, and one really comfortable high-backed armchair for those of us who are older and need a bit more support when sitting.

  • "The cottage is everything and more that you would wish for in a holiday cottage."

The owner is very welcoming and a cream tea is waiting for you on arrival. We could not fault the cottage itself or the owner. Negotiating the extremely narrow entrance and car parking space into Tanners Yard was the only drawback. We have a C-Max and with the side mirrors in there were only millimetres to spare and one of us needed to be outside guiding the driver through. However, parking is available in the nearby public carpark. This is only a short distance away but you have to pay.
