  • "Directions to the property supplied by Sykes were lacking in clarity."

ie, road described as the B3199 was in fact the A379, this caused us to miss the turn when driving to the property for the first time. Lyme View Road upon which the property is situated could be quite difficult to negotiate at times due to the double parking of residents cars on either side of the narrow road, especially on the sharp bends, making it difficult and potentially dangerous when facing oncoming traffic. We feel this should be mentioned in the directions to the property. We were very happy with the property itself and in particular with the spectacular views.

Thanks for your positive feedback about the property. Really appriciated! Property Owner

  • "The house was really nice and in a good location."

The only thing I would say is that in other cottages we have stayed, there are the basics provided like spare bin bags, kitchen roll, cling film, hand soap etc. That would be a nice touch to not have to think about buying those sorts of things

Thank you very much for your positive feedback on Sunnybank. I totally agree with you that the items mentioned should be present in the property. I can assure you they were present when we left the property ourselves at the end of July. I am very sorry you had buy them yourself. Property Owner

I and my friend noticed the cobwebs in all the ceiling lights in the dining / living room. Some of the cooker pans were not cleaned properly. The annoying squeaky floor boards on landing and also around by living room window also the squeaky double bed . The rubbish bin outside does not seemed to have been emptied for a while because of the smell we noticed. Therefore i will not be coming back there again.

  • "Great location and superb view, classic palm in garden!"

yes agree slightly noisy floor, only one t-towel and smallish bath towels (we brought extras based on other reviews!) but overall great for our extended family. Parking for 2 cars a plus, also found it not too far to walk down cutway to main street and bus 22 into Torquay (steep coming back!). Would be nice to have a king-size bed in the main room!

  • "We very much enjoyed staying at Sunnybank."

Great location and on the whole the house was lovely and met our needs. What would I change? The beds. They were all very soft, squeaky and uncomfortable. Consequently the 4 adults were all struggling from a lack of sleep by the end of the week. Extra bin bags and T towels should have been provided. One if each is not enough for 6 people for a week. We had to buy extra. Larger bath towels would also have been great. Finally, we were very unhappy at not being able to recycle and having to put everything in black bin bags. Not good if this is happening all year round. Otherwise we had a fabulous week in the area, enjoying all it had to offer.

We stayed with small grandchildren and found the noise from living area very loud in double bedroom. Only downside was the bin outside hadn't been emptied for a while and was smelling.

We love the location and the views. However on this occasion we were really disappointed with the cleanliness of the place. I'm confident we've left it cleaner than we found it. I only hope this isn't going to prevent us from booking again.

  • "We have stayed several times before and so we are familiar with the house and love it."

It's a shame some people feel it's necessary to make silly comments about the panelled living room ceiling and the texture of the paint on the walls etc. Since we visited last time the owners have installed a new washing machine and there is now a toaster. The house has every facility you could wish for on a holiday. Our only minor concern was that the kitchen surfaces could have had a better clean but this was soon sorted and the handle of the oven door broke but Sykes were on the ball straight away and a new cooker ordered. Brilliant service. The views are still lovely and house in an ideal position to get around and it's very quiet and relaxing. The next door neighbours are quiet and friendly too. We will certainly be staying again.

  • "The only disappointment was the shower was broken on arrival, the repair was completed by Monday evening but we were asked to leave it for another 24 hours to let new grout and sealant to harden off, so it was Wednesday before we could shower, although the bath was available being over 70 years of age we couldn`t get in or out safely, we were told by your representative that compensation would be negotiated, we have heard nothing since."

  • "- NO SMOKE ALARM!"

?!?!? - What is the ceiling in front room made of, pretty but if plastic it poses a very dangerous fire hazard. Bulbs/lights out in front room and dinning room - Shaver socket not working - Hall door to conservatory lock is not always working - Doors in bathroom and banister along stairs need cleaning they're so filthy you can see and feel thick sticky grime on them! - Bathroom sink plug not working (wasting water and impossible for washing in). - Would suggest when decorating the walls on the inside of the house, to remove the rough masonry paint, my children scraped their arms a few times quite badly. - Good location if you prefer a quieter area yet still near to all beaches and towns, really lovely views out of windows onto the sea, the road and neighboring properties are also nice but the house itself needs more upkeep, which is a shame for such a well sized and placed property.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear some things inside and outside the property did not meet your expectations. There are two smoke alarms in the property, one situated on the ceiling of the entrance hall and one on the ceiling of the hall downstairs. The ceiling in the living room is made of cedar wood so we can assure you there has not been any increased fire hazard. There are plenty of spare bulbs of all sizes and wattage in one of the drawers of the dresser, situated in the living room. We are sorry to say that, because of Covid-19 restrictions, we have been unable to visit the property ourselves for a considerable time so we have not been able to check the bad working sink plug and the shaving socket. Of course they will be replaced. A washing machine will be installed shortly. Your suggestion to remove the rough masonry paint will certainly be taken into consideration when the property will be redecorated. We hope that, notwithstanding the flaws you have noticed, you had a good holiday. Thank you again. Property Owner

We are in the middle of a pandemic and I would have expected cleanliness to be high on your agenda. This was claery not the case, somethings have not been cleaned in years. As a result of the poor cleanliness and the current pandemic we as a family could not relax and enjoy our stay. Totally spoilt would could have been a fantastic holiday. I would love to be given an opportunity to show the cleaners what cleaning means. One extremely customer!

  • "Lovely house in an stunning location for exploring the English Riviera."

The house itself is comfy and well appointed, including little things like some board games in the cupboards and a well appointed kitchen including all utensils and equipment you'd need. The view over the bay is absolutely stunning and i could have just sat and looked out of the window all week! Lovely little garden out the back, ideal for my toddler to run around in. The conservatory is a lovely addition to sit in and watch the sun set. Ideally the wifi could do with replacing or upgrading as you can only get a strong signal if downstairs, but not a deal breaker. Again would be handy if there was a washing machine but we knew that beforehand so just made sure we packed accordingly. There have been previous reviews about cleanliness. It's a holiday let fully booked back to back for 2 months+, so realistically you'd never get a deep clean between lets. Yes there were a couple of cobwebs but on the whole i was happy with the level of cleanliness. The comment about kitchen stuff being greasy is more to do with previous renters than the cleaner as they cant be expected to re wash everything every week. We had a lovely week here and will definitely rebook to stay here next time we are in the area. Thanks for a lovely stay

  • "We wanted to book for 9 nights."

I checked the price per night but wasn't aware that we had paid for 2 whole weeks instead of 9 nights (my fault, but it could be clearer on your website that anything between 8 and 13 nights will cost the same as 14 nights). We were a little disappointed with the cottage as we thought the price was too high (especially when we had paid too much...) for a cottage with no washing machine nor dishwasher. The cottage was not really clean either: lots of spider webs, sticky and greasy kitchenware. But eventually, it did the job and we enjoyed the surroundings.

On the whole the house good. The bad points were filthy mouldy bathroom tiles. Filthy shower curtain. Mould all around the bathroom window frame. Large cobwebs in the kitchen, dirty damp tea towels. Leaking radiator. Then to top that we had an engineer from the gas company wanting to come in and fit a new gas meter
