  • "The three of us thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at Bagtor Granary in December, celebrating recent birthday milestones and Christmas."

    The hot tub was a real highlight, and the Granary itself was wonderfully warm and cosy, with a large log burner and a very well-equipped kitchen, perfect for cooking a Sunday roast. The subtle Christmas decorations inside the Granary, along with the festive outdoor lights, created a lovely seasonal atmosphere. Thank you to Carol and Russell for the generous welcome hamper and the complimentary farm tour, which was a really special touch. We would happily have stayed another night and would highly recommend Bagtor Granary. We would definitely love to return in the future.

  • "We have had the loveliest week at Bagtor Barton - exploring Dartmoor by day and chilling in/by the hot tub in the evenings."

    The cottage was absolutely delightful, and Russell and Carol even provided a paddock for us to bring our two horses; the private farm track gave us direct access to Bag Tor, Haytor and beyond for some of the most amazing riding. 10/10, would love to stay again!

  • "Bagtor Granary is beautifully kept, comfortable and has excellent facilities."

    Alongside the Hay Loft and the owner’s home, the site feels remote and peaceful. The farm is accessed by narrow Devon lanes so you need to be a confident driver, as you might have to reverse some distance to a passing pace!

  • "We had a really lovely time at Bagtor Granary."

    As a group of 3 adults there was more than enough room for us all. The granary provides everything you could possibly need for your stay and it was extremely clean and comfortable (especially the beds!). The welcome hamper was such a lovely touch and thoroughly enjoyed. I also recommend the free range eggs for breakfast which were delicious. The hot tub was so relaxing after a day walking the south west coast path. It would have been nice to have a few steps leading up to the hot tub (as a person who suffers with knee pain it can be difficult to walk down a slope, but as it is only a small slope it was manageable). I would recommend the granary to everyone and would definitely stay again!

    Very comfortable and fitted with quality furnishings and appliances. Well equipped . Friendly owners who were happy to give you any local information and ensure you were happy with the accommodation. A nice touch was the welcome pack with jam,cream scones and a bottle of wine. Highly recommend this property we had a lovely week here with our grandson.

  • "A lovely cottage close to many adventurous walks around the Tors of Dartmoor."

    Thoughtfully put together with a well-maintained hot tub, which we enjoyed everyday and gorgeous big bath. Kitchen is a little tight on work space, but very well equipped. I found the single track road up to the farm and around Devon in general a challenge, but luckily the Easter holidays were different to Northumberland so I survived unscathed! Salcombe is a must visit, as is the donkey sanctuary but give Teignmouth a miss!

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our Stay in this beautiful cosy cottage."

    Very friendly owners who gave out lots of great advice. Very comfortable beds ,lovely hot tub and amazing walks from the doorstep, especially the one from directly out of the back door up through the woods and onto the moors, Extremely beautiful and peaceful. Loved the fact it was on a working farm and seeing the cattle and sheep everyday. Would recommend,Thanks Russell and Carol for creating a lot of memories for us.

  • "We had a lovely relaxing stay at Bagtor Granary."

    The cottage was really cosy, the beds were super comfy and the hot tub was lush. There is a fantastic walk right from your doorstep though the woods up to the Moors, we were lucky it snowed when we stayed as it looked like a winter wonderland. We had a lovely stay and we would definitely come back. The welcome basket was a lovely touch too! Thankyou.

  • "What a beautiful warm and cosy place to stay It was so peaceful and quiet."

    The cottage had everything you could ask for. A lovely hot tub to chill out in with clear skies with LOTS of stars. It was just a perfect end to hectic days out. The beds are so comfy. Cottage is only 10minutes away from main roads. You will travel for approx 10minutes through lanes to get there. It’s close to main roads but far enough away to feel remote and relaxed from the hustle and bustle. All you will hear is sheep cows birds and the occasional farm vehicle It’s just a perfect retreat to get away from it all. And a lovely welcome hamper when you arrive with free range eggs, scones, Jam, cream, milk and wine and a wonderful warm welcome from the hosts. We would highly recommend. Thank you for a beautiful stay!

  • "We had a superb stay at Bagtor Granary - the property was exactly per the listing, even better IRL in fact."

    Russell & Carol were friendly and helpful, and the welcome hamper was a nice treat after a long car journey. The hot tub was a lot of fun, and the farm grounds were clean and tidy, and our girls loved seeing/petting the farm animals. The only small/minor comment we have is that the internal walls are quite thin which shouldn't be an issue for most people but resulted in the occasional disturbance of our 4 year old by our 1 year old during the night.

    The owners were very welcoming upon arrival and helped resolve any queries we had immediately. The cottage was lovely and warm, clean and tidy with everything we needed. We all enjoyed the hot tub and experience staying on a working farm! In addition, we ordered some meat from the owners too which was very tasty! Excellent location for getting up onto Dartmoor. We would definitely choose to return here in the future.

    The house is beautiful and the beds were comfy. Our oldest child is still talking about how soft the sheets were 5 days later. The hot tub was a real winner as well. The owners were helpful and friendly and the welcome hamper we arrived to was a nice touch! (The scones were amazing). Thank you for having us!

The property

Resting upon Bagtor Barton, a beef farm that has been in the same family for five generations, on the outskirts of Ilsington, Devon is Bagtor Granary, a stunning, three-bedroom barn conversion.

Situated in the Dartmoor National Park, with direct, private, walking access onto the moor, Bagtor Granary offers a delightful abode for a family of six, complete with a stylish interior, a private hot tub, and charming surroundings.

On arrival, benefit from off-road parking, before entering your new home-from-home, starting off in the contemporary sitting room, complete with a plush leather sofa, a Smart TV, and a woodburning stove, offering the perfect space to unwind after a day of travelling.

Head into the spacious kitchen/diner, fitted with state-of-the-art appliances and dining space for six guests, where you can prepare meals and gather as a family.

As the night unfolds, enjoy an indulgent dip in the private hot tub, watching the sun set over Devon, before venturing upstairs and catching some rest in one of the three well-appointed bedrooms; select between the master king-size with a Smart TV and handy en-suite shower room, a further king-size, and a bunk room, complete with handmade, oak frames.

Awaken to a long soak in the luxury, free-standing copper bath, before heading to the farm for a meet-and-greet with the livestock, a tour of the farm or a meeting with calves and lambs depending on the time of year.

Once you're ready to explore, make your way towards Haytor Rocks where cattle roam freely in the summer, or the beautiful surroundings of Becky Falls Ancient Woodland Park, whilst your nearest amenities can be found in Islington.

Travel slightly further into Dartmoor to discover Widecombe-in-the-Moor an historic thatched village with a 14th century church: try the Café on the Green for brunch, lunch or afternoon tea or sample the local ale at the famous Rugglestone Inn.

Perfect for the adults of your group, be sure to visit the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery, where you can sample some local produce and experience a tour, whilst the Stover Country Park is the ideal landscape for a family walk and picnic.

Situated within close proximity to the market town of Newton Abbot and just under 15 miles from the seaside resort of Torquay, you are ideally placed for exploring all this beautiful region has to offer. Discover thatched hamlets and sleepy villages, thriving market towns and many picturesque and historical sites in the Dartmoor National Park. The village offers a shop and local pub for your immediate amenities, while Newton Abbot provides a more extensive range of shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and cafés to explore.
