Eddystone

For the second year running one of the legs on a plastic garden chair snapped, luckily the person sat in it was fine.

Otherwise everything was perfect.

Our stays at Eddystone in Hope Cove have become a cherished annual tradition, and it truly feels like our home from home.

From the moment we arrive, we’re able to relax and settle straight into the comfort and familiarity that makes this place so special to us. The house itself is wonderfully welcoming, with everything we need for a perfect coastal escape. It strikes that rare balance between being beautifully kept and genuinely cosy—never feeling like just a holiday rental, but somewhere we can properly unwind and make memories year after year. What really sets Eddystone apart is how effortlessly it becomes part of our routine. Whether it’s slow mornings, beach walks, or evenings spent together after a day by the sea, it provides the perfect backdrop for quality time. Returning each year feels less like a trip and more like coming back to somewhere that belongs to us in its own way. We couldn’t recommend it more highly—it’s a place that has truly captured our hearts.

Beautiful house in a great location.

Kitchen was well equipped, really clean on arrival. Cannot fault it at all. The room at the top is just perfect!!

Had a lovely stay, took full advantage of the room on the second floor overlooking the bay.

Close to everything we needed didn’t feel we had to keep going out in the car. Perfect.

We loved our trip to Hope Cove and this was especially due to our stay at Eddystone.

It was the perfect place for our two families to stay and create such special memories together. Plenty of space for all of us and very well maintained. We really couldn't recommend Eddystone highly enough and will definitely stay there the next time we holiday to Hope Cove.

Our third visit to Eddystone and as before, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Really appreciated the bottle of fizz in the fridge. We thought the property was very clean (more so than in previous years). A couple of very small criticisms - we couldn't find any measuring scales in the kitchen and the sofas are getting a bit uncomfortable. A slightly bigger TV would be nice but other than that, it was perfect. Might very well return for a fourth visit next year!

Very low standards of cleaning - fridge mucky, bin mucky, cobwebs visible

The property is in a very good location.

There are fabulous views from the top floor. I think that maybe the lighting situation should be mentioned before guests arrive so that they know how everything works. The property had everything that we needed, but some soap in the bathrooms on arrival would have been helpful. Fortunately we had a food delivery booked for the next day so we were able to update our order. Maybe a couple more tea towels would also have helped. We were catering for 8, so 2 tea towels for a week was not really enough. That said, we enjoyed our stay very, very much! The owner was extremely helpful when we got in touch with her.

Perfect location and we all thought was great value for money.

We were very lucky with the great weather and so did not use the top floor much. Worked well with family members renting next door property too.

Sideboard door continually swung open, couldn't keep it closed.

Upstairs toilet flush didn't reset. Had to remove cistern lid and reset button after every use. Had to change fuse in toaster. Random sock on floor in front of washing machine. Wooden spoons all cracked, split and not fit for purpose. Had to wash 2 greasy oven trays, most of the cutlery and several glasses before use. Loved the location and the Upstairs lounge made it more special. Just needs some tlc.

We really enjoyed our time at Eddystone.

The cottage is very spacious, and the kitchen is well stocked with plenty of kitchenware meaning it is great for 8 people. The views from the Snug room at the top of the house are fantastic, we spent many an evening watching the set set over the bay with a glass or two. It is close to the beach, there is a path that leads from the rear gate down to the beach. Whilst a relatively short walk, it is a bit of a hill so bear that in mind if you have mobility issues. As well as three bedrooms, there is plenty of living space - the kitchen/diner, the living room and the attic Snug mean it never feels crowded even if there are 8 of you. Plus a spacious decking area outside The village itself is lovely. Several beaches are within walking distance, and there are two lovely pubs in the village (both serving great food) plus another great quirky restaurant called the lobster pot. The Cove pub also does takeaway. One thing to bear in mind is that there is a small corner shop in the village which sells the basics, but other than that you need to get a big shop elsewhere. We did an online supermarket delivery for when we arrived and I’d recommend doing that. We loved our stay and would certainly return.

5th visit to Eddystone and another great holiday, we will be back for the 6th!

As a family we simply love Eddystone.

Everything about it is perfect. Which is why we book it each year. Just a beautiful house, has everything you need. Views to die for. Plenty of room and a stones though from the beach.

A wonderful family Christmas enjoyed by all.

The views, the cove, the pub, the wild weather all contributed to a fabulous stay for the Ferrers/Sheppards. One added to our Favourite places list!

Lovely stay in the Eddystone accommodation.

Well equipped and comfortable furnishings. We had to have direct contact with the owners due to problems caused by the stormy weather and their response was both extremely prompt and very helpful. We would definately stay here again.

Our second stay at Eddystone and as before, we had a very enjoyable time, considerably helped by the early October heatwave.

We were pleased to see that the house information board had been updated and the instructions are very comprehensive. (Curious though as to why we had to turn the stopcock off at the end of our stay). Glad to see the recycle boxes were present and correct as well. Only two very small niggles - the light in the downstairs bedroom didn't work and the windows in the master bedroom were difficult to keep partly open (it was a choice of fully shut or fully open). The prosecco in the fridge was very welcome. All in all, we loved Eddystone and will probably be back for a third visit next year.

Having looked after properties and cleaned them for a number of years we are fairly well versed in this area so to us this property falls short on certain issues, mainly on the fact that there was no welcome pack!

In all our experiences of looking after and visiting similar establishments, there is always, always a welcome pack. So why not here? To us it shows the difference between people who really care about the place and those who take it for granted all people will be knocked out by the property! Considering the exorbitant price we paid for such a short time we think this property, sadly, falls into the latter catagory. This may be a standard in all your rentals, but in this day and age is totally not acceptable. Our arrival was delayed until 7pm therefore we didn't have time to get milk etc, it would have felt really good to have been welcomed by the giving of the basics to work from, but nothing of the sort! There was also the amount of do this and don't do that about the place, which we all felt a bit put out by. We can understand the reason, especially if the owner is a ex-naval person so the impact was minimal. CONCLUSION: If people care about places and people then thinking about what YOU would want and expect should be apparent and such a small touch can make a great deal of difference to those who rent such places. Also not to be so greedy, especially at this present time when greed is so prevalent!

Eddystone is just a wonderful place to stay in the wonderful Hope Cove.

We come to Hope Cove most years and always stay in the perfect Eddystone. Amazing views from the top of the house and everything you need for you stay. We’ll be back that’s for sure. Damian, Lizzy, Max and Theo.

Just a few things we'd like to point out on what is otherwise a lovely little house in a superb location overlooking Hope Cove and the sea.

We notified Coast and Country/Sykes that we were expecting a third person to join us and were promised extra towels. Only two towel bales were given us. Also, there was no sign of any recyle boxes. According to the house notes, they should have been behind the house but there was no sign of them anywhere. We had to bring our recycling home. Also there was no timetable as to when the bin and boxes should be put out. The house notes said there should be a timetable on the pin board but there isn't. Also we were confused as to where to put used linen and towels at the end of the stay. The notes said put in bags. It wasn't until several days into the holiday that we discovered the bags hidden under the beds. The only other thing we found was that the dining room and kitchen are rather dark and had to keep the lights on during the day. All in all though, we loved our stay at Eddystone and may very well book it again.

A lovely location, the house was very clean and tidy and well equipped.

Access to both a garden and decking area was a real bonus. We would have welcomed a few more hand towels to leave in the bathrooms but that certainly wasn’t an issue.

1st Trip back to Eddystone after covid, still love it.
