Woodstock Retreat

We were after a quiet peaceful break for are 35 wedding anniversary and we got just that.

Would highly recommend

Perfect, peaceful, comfortable spotlessly clean , owner very welcoming, gave us extra sun lounger , milk tea coffee provided , perfect for a get away with a small dog

Throughly enjoyed our stay.

The retreat is ideally situated for exploring Devon. It was very comfortable and extremely peaceful and was a joy to come back to and to relax on the decking with a glass of wine after exploring the local seaside towns. Would highly recommend it.

My first thoughts were it is small.

Everything you could want was supplied. Very clean. Great location in the middle of nowhere but close enough to civilisation if you want it. Lovely small enclosed garden and a 1 acre meadow through the gate. A great place to spend a few quiet days.

A lovely little get away in the countryside with plenty of places to visit within a 40 minute drive. Will be recommending to friends

A clean, bright and comfortable holiday retreat.

We loved the outdoor seating and the paddock/garden. Overall, very good accommodation and a beautiful setting.

Beautiful rural setting with wonderful birdsong.

The meadow for our dog was a real bonus. Everything you could want for a quiet restful break.

Really lovely little place.

Nicely decorated with excellent facilities. Lovely to have two outdoor seating areas and a fenced in, small garden area for the dog to safely roam in. Everything we could possibly need was provided for. Nice personal touches too. Would totally recommend.

What a wonderful place.

Retreat is a great way to describe it. There's a stream at the bottom of the garden and an abundance of nature. The accommodation is great. Really well thought out with a luxurious feel. It has it's on garden space with two seating areas and all is fully enclosed so safe for the dog. Perfect

We had a wonderful stay.

Debbie was very thoughtful and kind. The retreat was homely and spotless. There's a beautiful view of tall trees from the kitchen. It's super quiet in the evening and dark. We got to see an incredibly clear sparkling night's sky. This is a great place to stay to recharge yourself.

A beautiful property in a lovely peaceful location.

Immaculate condition, very clean, fabulous shower. My only one point of criticism, like others, is the size of the sofa. Very very small & would probably be uncomfortable for 2 people. However I do appreciate this is a tight space & options would be limited. All being said, would absolutely visit again.

This is in a very peaceful location yet not far from towns like Chard and Axminster and close to the south coast resorts such as Beer and Sidmouth.

The accommodation is well laid out and equipped with effective underfloor heating for the cooler months. The modern bathroom shower worked really well, I've suffered several that certainly haven't in other cottages. The very secluded and sunny garden has two spots for sitting out, one right outside the front door. As a dog owner my Keeshonds enjoyed it as much as I did. This was my second visit within just a few weeks because I had enjoyed the first one so much.

Nice little cottage, Very clean.

Smaller than I imagined. Not much around to do, if you have difficulty getting about, as I do. I also had 2 people that kept taking a short cut, walking passed the front door, which was off putting. Made me feel uneasy for the rest of the stay, that I wanted to leave just a few days in. I did leave a day early. I couldn't reach the cupboard that had crockery in, Found some little steps in the end, but I was still too short. Sofa was tiny and so uncomfortable. Bed was lovely and comfortable. Steps in the garden were steep, and the garden is very steep also, the uncut grass didn't help, lots of muddy patches, I almost fell cleaning up after my dogs. The poo bin was tiny like a kitchen food caddy and unfortunately after 6 days it was over flowing. Decking was extremely slimy & very slippy, my dog slipped several times, fortunately no injuries. Definitely needs more maintenance. I was also disappointed that I couldn't sit out as the cushions were exposed & wet in the broken garden box, full of cobwebs too, I tried to put the lid on properly but the lid was broken.

The property was well equipped and laid out and very clean - the bathroom was impressive with a first class shower cubicle.

. I have only held back a little on comfort because it necessarily has quite a tiny sofa and similarly has a breakfast bar with high bar stools rather than a table. As I was on my own with two dogs this was no great concern. The fact everything is on one level is a bonus in my view. What I particularly appreciated was the small dog proof garden and a very pleasant sitting area just outside the living room door - both I and the dogs loved that, they could sit outside with me and watch the horse riders, dog walkers and farm vehicles trundle past in the lane. I may well come back again.

We spent a lovely week in very pleasant surroundings.

I had a lovely stay here with my dog (Scout), it was perfect for the 2 of us and as we got very lucky with the weather, we were able to spend alot of time outdoors in the garden!

I am from the area and this was in a great location for me to stay and see friends and family for the week. I was also able to work remotely for 1 day of my stay without issue. It's very likely that we will be back to stay in the future!!

A get away from it all holiday. Debbie was there if needed. Lots of lovely places locally to visit.

Had a long weekend here, it was lovely and peaceful, a great way to relax and forget about the world, just what I needed thankyou.

A lovely cottage, that has everything you need and in an ideal area for exploring and walking.

The host, Debbie, was very helpful and friendly. We loved our few days there and wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely book again.

A lovely clean and comfortable retreat.

Lots of walks from the cottage and despite the weather, we went out every day. Great facilities in the cottage and it was warm and cosy. Debbie, the owner, extremely friendly and helpful, particularly as we lost the Wi-Fi and it was because we had inadvertently turned it off! Places to visit with dogs Sidmouth donkey sanctuary, Sidmouth, Beer Quarry, Branscombe, Charmouth beach, Cricket St Thomas, Axminster, all within easy reach of the cottage. Will recommend to friends and family for a great break.

Wonderfully quiet and rural cottage.

Not very big. Especially the room/kitchen on the small side and the two-seater sofa not really comfortable. Great starting point to discover Devon.

Comfortable cottage in a calm quiet setting.

My second stay was as good as as the first. Everything was perfect for me and my dogs and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. I am looking forward to my next trip there. Thank you Debbie

Bijou and beautiful.

A little gem in a peaceful setting. As previous review says little space to store food but no problem for us - good sized fridge and we called into supermarkets to buy fresh alternate days.

Beautifully maintained and modern apartment.

The bed is super comfy! Also the host is lovely and helpful. It is a great spot to base yourself to explore that corner of the world and there are lovely places around and about. However there is little that can be reached on foot (the flip side being it is good for country rambles, especially with a dog). Because it is a little way out, I agree with others that ask for more food storage space in the kitchen, but I rearranged a little and coped. All in all, heartily recommend Woodstock Retreat.

A lovely little property, perfect for 1 or 2 people and a dog.

In a very peaceful location but within easy reach of a myriad of places to visit. The owner Debbie is very friendly and very helpful, with some great advice on places to visit and walks in the immediate vicinity of the cottage. The only slight negative is the lack of a storage cupboard in the kitchen but that is only a very minor thing. We stayed for 2 weeks and would be very happy to come back.

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful area.

Everything we needed, very comfortable. Lots of local walks from the doorstep. Small enclosed garden for Lexi to roam free with access to a large meadow where she could run. Nice welcome from Debbie on arrival but not intrusive for rest of stay. Lovely treats, thank you.

We have just had a lovely stay with our puppy, Debbie is a great host, nothing was too much trouble, the property is to a high standard & had everything we needed.

Had a great stay, owner very welcoming, meadow for dogs was excellent, decking area was small but very pleasant to sit out in the evening with a glass wine, although the outside furniture was looking a bit tired and a sweep around with a stiff brush been useful.

Retreat was lovely, very clean and cosy, everything we needed and well equipped. Nice little extras like a pint of fresh milk, tea, coffee and cookies (yummy) appreciated, We enjoyed our stay and would come back again. 10/10

Brilliant - absolutely perfect chill-out location.

It has everything you need, as well as a very comfortable bed and is situated in beautiful countryside. Although close to the owner’s property you have absolute privacy and an unobtrusive owner. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay at Woodstock Retreat, we particularly liked the views over the trees and fields, and the fact that it was not overlooked.

It was in a lovely quiet location, yet a short drive from the coast. It does however badly need a dishwasher.

An excellent short break , in a small but exceptionally well appointed and equipped property, in nice surroundings, though with limited views.

Made very welcome by Debbie. Interesting places to visit - by car! - and good weather.

Just got home from a lovely stay at Woodstock Retreat.

Met Debbie on arrival and she was very welcoming. She also left information and recommendations of places to visit/restaurants etc, which we found to be helpful. Also a lovely touch of wine and biscuits as a welcome gift. The property was lovely and it was great to have the enclosed outside area for the dog. The bed was very comfortable and all areas of the property were clean. The only area for improvement would be that the sofa is a little small for two people to sit comfortably. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you, Debbie.

Lovely little property with everything you need.

Great for one person and a small dog. Lounge seating isn't really suitable for two adults but for one its perfect.

Ideal for us.

Cosy and clean, vey welcoming with our dog and somewhere to walk her. A quiet spot but near lots of beaches etc.

There was no spare cupboard to put food etc.

We were able to make space but storage space was generally limited. Bed was very comfortable and shower was lovely.

The deck and garden are lovely and the location to wonderful to explore this beautiful area. Debbie is very welcoming and her suggestions for days out and dining are fabulous

Whilst everything was as it should be and more sometimes those with walking restrictions should talk to owner prior to booking to ensure they are in the right place for their needs

Beautiful little retreat.

Has everything you need for few days away. Clean and fresh on arrival. Surrounding area is lovely for a few walks, also all the little beach towns are only about 20minute drive. I worry about taking my dog away sometimes but she felt instantly comfortable too and settled in nicely. Wouldn’t hesitate in staying again.
