  • "We had a great time at Wood View cottage especially in the swimming pool."

The cottage was very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We loved the games room and had many games of pool during our stay. We would definitely recommend Wood View cottage.

The location is very quiet and peaceful and the gardens are beautiful and well maintained. Thank you to Peter & Carole for a great week, we look forward to maybe seeing you again next year. The Capel family

  • "Fabulous week in Wood View Cottage, although it’s an annex you are still very much private and the facilities are fantastic."

The pool is very clean and was perfect for our 12 & 9 year old kids. We went in everyday except one. The cottage itself has everything you need with a lovely welcome gift and small touches like dishwasher tabs, black sacks, cling film etc which at previous properties we’ve had to purchase. Carole & Peter are lovely and friendly, they are a good source of local information and made us feel comfortable and well looked after. The roads around the area are all single lane so brush up on your reversing skills and be prepared for slower journey times. The games room kept us entertained every night with pool and darts and you use the room just as a family. We would definitely return.

  • "Never have we come back from a self catering cottage so fully rested and relaxed with our batteries fully recharged."

Wood View Cottage is a little piece of tranquil heaven which, upon arrival, immediately puts you at ease and lets you know you are going to have a wonderful stay and that feeling just gets better with each passing day! We were so sad to be going home and usually we can't wait to get back to our own beds! The cottage is spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. The living room has a choice of a large snuggly corner sofa and occasional chairs which are equally as comfy. The kitchen is huge and so well equipped with literally everything you could possibly need during your stay (even a slow cooker in the cupboard!) and has lots of free cupboard space and worktop space for your things. The beds are the comfiest we have ever stayed in which meant we slept extremely well every night. The swimming pool was wonderful and we used it every day. Having private use of it during the day was fabulous and we had brilliant fun in it. There is a changing room with toilet and shower in the pool room which was very convenient as was having access to the pool room from the hallway of the cottage which we loved. The games room is an absolute gem too - we took our drinks in there of an evening and played pool, darts and ring toss to our hearts content! Things did get quite competitive and by the end of the week our children were regularly beating us at the pool table! The gardens all around the cottage are just beautiful, but especially the huge walled garden with its magnificent and very old pine tree and all of the beautiful and carefully looked after plants, shrubs and flowers. The views are far reaching and spectacular as are the sunrises and sunsets. Finally, Carole and Peter were just lovely - they were very discreet and were happy to just leave us to enjoy our holiday but they were easily available and approachable if we had any questions or wanted to make use of their local knowledge. Thank you for sharing this amazingly quiet and peaceful part of Devon with us. Such lovely people, such a lovely cottage, such a lovely swimming pool, such a lovely games room and such lovely gardens....we cannot wait to come back!.

  • "Hi we absolutely loved the cottage."

Everything was clean and comfortable. We were very lucky to be able to use the facilities. The pool, darts were great fun and made us very competitive!!! The swimming pool was the icing on the cake, will definitely be coming back!! Close to local amenities, despite narrow roads. Thank-you to the owners for sharing their superb house!! • "We had a wonderful stay at Wood View."

The property is set in beautiful gardens and is very secluded. The cottage is spacious, has a good layout and is well equipped. Our daughter loved the upstairs bedroom with the cabin beds. The bed in the main bedroom was comfortable. Having the private pool available all day was amazing. The pool was slightly on the cool side for our young baby but our 6 year old was fine. Our daughter also loved the games room and kept her occupied playing pool and monopoly. The bathroom was slightly dated and the sofas were a bit soft, but minor issues. Local roads are single track with passing points - wise to use Satnav and familiarise before travelling as some may find it difficult to locate. The cottage is in close proximity to Woodlands Family Theme Park (which was great), Dartmouth, and local beaches. I would recommend Wood View and definitely stay again.

I thought maybe the Sykes photos did not show how wonderful your gardens with views and facilities were- good for us as it was available at half term though!

  • "Second visit, great place love it."

Only things we can think of to improve it would be a second chair in lounge as sofa too soft for short legged people. Bread knife was a bit blunt, but hey, minor issues in the grand scheme of things. Lovely place for peace and quiet owners are very nice, helpful, but give you privacy

The pool is amazing; a really good size and great to not have to share. Huge gardens to explore and the games room is a big bonus. Cottage is a good size with large lounge and kitchen. Lots of attractions and things to do locally. The local roads to the property are narrow.

  • "We had an amazing time staying at Wood View Cottage."

This place was so great, the swimming pool was fantastic our two daughters loved playing and swimming in it. The gardens were big and beautiful with lovely places to sit and watch the sunset or at night to look at the many stars. Our daughters loved having lots of space to run around and do cartwheels in. The games room was also a huge bonus, my eldest learned to play darts and pool but it was also brilliant for the kids to play in early in the morning without having to worry about the noise they were making. Carole and Peter were welcoming and friendly whilst also respecting our privacy whilst we enjoyed their property. It was so peaceful here we didn't want to leave but have left feeling relaxed and refreshed.

  • "Wood View has been a fabulous place to stay."

Spotlessly clean, incredible views (we were delighted to see buzzards flying so close), warm and welcoming hosts and the most wonderful facilities: having the swimming pool from 9-5 each day has been a wonderful way to unwind, and the incredible games room has been the icing on the cake with its pool table, dart board etc. The kitchen is enormous and extremely well equipped so we didn’t find ourselves in need of anything whatsoever, and our children adored their fantastic upstairs bedroom. A wonderful place to stay!

The cottage is equipped with everything you need, very spacious, clean, comfy beds and surrounded by beautiful gardens that you are free to walk around. The views from the lounge are stunning. The pool for us was the star of the show. My 9 year old was in it every day, sometimes twice a day. Perfect for the unpredictable English weather. Carole and Peter are the perfect hosts and the welcoming fresh cut flowers, wine and biscuits that greeted us on arrival were a lovely surprise. Fabulous week away.

The private pool with access from inside the house was perfect. It was hard to persuade our kids to go anywhere else! It's in a great location for visiting lots of attractions and the beautiful surrounding countryside. The view from the living room with its large windows over looking fields is just beautiful. The cottage was kitted out with everything you could need and the living room and kitchen are particularly spacious. Would highly recommend.

  • "The property exceeded our expectations in every way."

We were welcomed by Carole and Peter on arrival who were on hand throughout our stay to help with any problems or questions that we had. The extensive grounds were a perfect backdrop for relaxing and the pool was immaculately presented. The property is ideally located for our favourite family holiday habits- crabbing at Dartmouth followed by a traditional pasty from the bakery and freshly made fudge from Edward's. Fish and chips at Slapton Sands, swimming and paddle boarding at Blackpool sands are close by and Cream tea at Weavers cottage at Cockington Village. Unfortunately we've left it too late to book for next year!

  • "Wood View is an idyllic holiday home."

We all enjoyed the swimming pool and the pool room very much. The gardens were also lovely and the children particularly enjoyed the tree swing. My only hesitation in recommending Helpful Holidays is that I did not realise on booking that you are part of the Sykes group. I have not had a good experience with Sykes during the lockdown period (in relation to another holiday) and am reluctant to use them again.
