  • "We had an absolutely marvellous time - such a peaceful place to escape to and be away from it all."

Pete and Jackie have thought of everything in the house, and were on hand with friendly conversation and valuable local knowledge whenever needed. The Orchard was so welcoming and well equipped, comfortable beds and sofa and a hot tub - all glorious after a busy day exploring the area. We sincerely hope to return, and would recommend the cottage and lovely hosts for anyone seeking a relaxing, friendly home-from-home.

  • "What a lovely comfortable holiday cottage with excellent hosts."

The upside down cottage had a lovely cool bedroom downstairs with the softest linen I’ve ever slept in. All kitchen essentials are provided incl washing up liquid, dish washer tablets etc The hot tub being in the front courtyard was a slight worry but it was actually very private and had lovely views over the Devon countryside. There is so much to do in this part of Devon and both coasts are less than an hour away. We had a fantastic week

(thank you) The cottage is only a mile away from an easy main road and the road to the cottage was so quiet that we only met a couple of vehicles all week. We were very lucky with the weather and explored the area every day, Okehampton is a beautiful, friendly town and is ideally situated for getting onto the moor and other attractive villages very easily. We walked miles each day, then returned to have a welcome dip in the hot tub. The hosts were welcoming and always around to help with any queries we had and to top up the logs well before we ran out. We enjoyed our stay in the cottage very much, but if we were to book again we would probably pay a little more and book the adjoining cottage which we feel has a much more private hot tub and a garden.

They even looked after our dog for the day and evening when we need to go back home as it was a blisteringly hot week . We loved everything about it the cottage and the location was perfect. Very clean ..and kept us cool considering we were there for the hottest week of the year ! Inside it is very comfortable and cosy and would also be lovely in winter which we might book next if covid carries on ! The spa was a great hit with my husband son and niece …I preferred a chill down by the little shed at the bottom of the property watching the sun go down . There are also chickens and we received fresh eggs when we arrived with a cream tea which was a lovely surprise after the long journey down .. Ask Peter about the the hidden quiet walk which seems to be in the middle of nowhere where if you are lucky you can see wild horses and also paddle in the stream Accessible near the red postbox just down the road ! I would not hesitate in recommending this holiday cottage at any time of the year. Thank you both for a wonderful holiday <3 x

On arrival we were greeted by the owners (Peter and Jackie) who made us feel very welcome . It was such a lovely surprise to enter the kitchen area to see a lovely cream tea waiting for us and fresh flowers ! When you have travelled a long journey the last thing you want to do is to dash out to the nearest shop to buy essentials . However this wasn’t necessary as there was bread, milk , eggs and other essentials ready and waiting ! There is so much to see and do within only a few miles of the accommodation . There is local bike hire, lovely villages ( with good pub food ). We have teenage children and were spoilt for choice on theme parks. Bude beach is great and well worth a visit . The icing on the cake was discovering that Peter and Jackie also have dog kennels. We have a 7 month old puppy called Willow and up until that point we had never left her with anyone . However , the kennels were really spacious and the fee very reasonable . It was quite obvious that Peter and Jackie are dog lovers so it was nice to know our willow was well cared for whilst we had a couple of trips out without her.
