  • "Clean, cosy, very comfortable, quiet."

Getting away from Newton Ferrers was easier from the cottage than it would have been from the village centre. Handy local shops with friendly staff. Pubs get booked up for meals, but plenty of others in the area. We particularly liked the Rose and Crown at Yealmpton. Wonderful walks from the cottage. Thoroughly to be recommended. Very friendly and helpful owners.

  • "Village is in a lovely location, ."

Plentiful walks and sufficient local amenities. Most useful for this stay particularly given the fuel panic was the fact that the local bus ran daily right into the centre of Plymouth allowing over a 5-hour stay to visit sights , museums shops etc.

  • "Had a great time in Newton Ferrers and at Parsonage Farm Cottage."

The cottage location is very good for exploring South Hams and Newton Ferrers is lovely village within walking distance. The cottage is very charming and comfortable. Better washing and drying facilities would have been useful, especially with young children. The owners are very hospitable.

  • "Despite wet weather, we had a good time at Parsonage Farm Cottage."

The owners could not be more helpful or friendly and the accommodation was also ideal for the dog (a nine-month-old springer spaniel pup). The area is lovely and would certainly stay again. Plenty to see in the area particularly if you are a fan of the National Trust. The cottage has character and we liked this. A very cosy place. Thumbs up all round!

  • "Parsonage Farm Cottage was an excellent place to stay."

It was comfortable and cosy and in a very peaceful setting. All arrangements went smoothly and information provided in the cottage was helpful and accurate. We would recommend this cottage for people using public transport. There is a bus stop right outside and the village has very good shops (including a co-op, community shop and a chemist) which provided everything that we needed, and three excellent pubs within walking distance too. There were plenty of interesting walks in the local area which were easy to find using the OS map in the property. It was a lovely place to stay in November, but I am sure it is equally charming in the summer!

The accommodation was spacious with a lovely outside area. The village had everything we needed, in fact we didn't use our car all week. It is a great place for walking and relaxing.

  • "I know Newton Ferrers well and I'm delighted to find a cottage so close to the village and all its very special features."

The cottage was lovely, in a very quiet and private setting, and with a lovely large shared garden that is great for dogs and children. If I could have waved a magic wand I would have liked: a shelf within the shower enclosure for lotions and potions, and indeed one in the barhroom itself.More kitchen storage for food items would be nice, and better light over the table. (I wanted to do a bit of drawing and painting). And a picnic table in the garden area would be great - there is nowhere to sit except in the small gravelled courtyard. But otherwise its a lovely property in very desirable location for singles, couples, and families (its a real messing about in the river place !)

  • "Could not fault the accommodation, and it was very good for my dog, large field for her to run in."

Only down side was we felt it was necessary to travel in the car to see surrounding areas etc. There is not a lot at Newton Ferrers, although a very attractive area. Beware of using Sat Navs as they take you down very narrow one track lanes. This did not stop us having a very pleasant week.

Dog friendly, cosy, nice walk down into Newton Ferrers & Noss Mayo (steep hills down to the pubs, but well worth the walk!) secure pebbled garden plus a paddock to walk the dogs if needed outside the cottage! Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Had a fabulous week!

About the location

Plymouth 8 miles.

A tranquil, picturesque village in the South Hams area of Devon, on a bend of the River Yealm leading up from the South Devon coast (1 mile). The perfect haven for sailors, for those who love messing about near water and for those who appreciate stunning and civilised countryside. There is a local butcher, chemist, post office and grocer in Newton Ferrers and an organic farm shop just two miles away. The village pub, with fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek, serves good food and drink. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 8 miles away while beautiful Totnes with its 'alternative' view on life is a must. If the beach rather than boats is what you seek, you won't do better than the beautiful sands at Mothecombe and Bigbury just a few miles down the road. Both are accessible by road or boat from Newton Ferrers. There are a number of excellent golf courses nearby.
