  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Apple Loft."

Vicky and Chris were both very welcoming and we loved being able to explore the farm and see the animals. Thankyou for allowing the children to participate in daily jobs with the chickens and horses! The cream tea was a welcome treat too!

Set in a beautiful and very peaceful location, it is perfect for those wanting to switch off and relax. When we arrived, the owners were on site and they couldn’t have been more welcoming. Being a working livestock farm, they made the children more than welcome, giving them the opportunity to feed the lambs and chickens, as well as generally helping out. The cottage is the perfect size for a small family, with fresh scones, cream and jam awaiting us on our arrival. The location is perfect for exploring Cornwall, especially the South Coast, with easy access to Looe, Fowey etc. I would have no hesitation in recommending Apple Loft to anyone. Thanks once again for making our stay so special.

  • "We have just stayed in Apple Loft which we really enjoyed."

The property is a period conversion, with lots of old world charm. It has all you would expect from a modern property but it's clearly a building with lots of history, with exposed wooden beams in most rooms. The lounge kitchen dinner has 2 two seater comfy leather sofas, smart TV with dvd player and a log burner which the owner kindly provides logs and kindling for, the kitchen has a electric cooker, microwave, toaster, and dishwasher. There's a laundry bar with shared use of a washing machine and dryer. The double master bedroom is accessed via a steep wooden staircase which before arrival we thought might be an issue but it wasn't at all. The bedroom is huge and very light and airy with 2 velux roof lights windows, a regular window overlooking the farm and a door the the back garden area. The twin room is accessed via stairway with approximately 5 steps the room has two single beds and a window overlooking the farm. The wooden beams in this room are quite low making this room better suited for children. The bathroom has a lovely freestanding bath and a shower cubicle, washing hand basin and WC. It also has a heated towel rail and fan heater. There is also a large entrance cloak area to store shoes and coats. Parking a right outside of the property. Thanks to Vicki and Chris for a lovely stay, all of the little extras supplied are really useful and much appreciated. Thanks for the scones, jam and clotted cream they were delicious, even having milk, tea, coffee and sugar on arrival was really thoughtful and very handy after a long journey. We really hope to stay again in the future. Best wishes for Lambing season. Mark, Sandra, Bruno and Angela X

Well equipped, really clean and all that we needed. Kids loved being able to see the lambs and horses and us having the freedom to wander with the dog (on lead) Would recommend guests bring slippers if staying in colder months. Only downside was Master bed could do with a new mattress for a more comfortable and less noisy night.

Many thanks for your review, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay here. We are addressing the problem with the bed. The mattress was replaced a couple of years ago and as no one else had commented we were not aware there was a problem. Thanks for letting us know. Best wishes, Vicki Property Owner

The cottage had everything we needed and gave an authentic experience of a rural retreat in a very beautiful part of Cornwall with Lostwithiel and Fowey nearby. We would definitely recommend. It seems quite secluded at first, albeit in the beauty of the rolling countryside, but it’s so close to a number of attractions and interesting places to visit. So peaceful at night and comfortable too. The owners were friendly and very thoughtful, inviting our young son to have a ride on one of their small ponies which he loved. Some nice places to eat nearby, all a short drive away. If you enjoy history then it’s a great place to be. Braddock Down battlefield is literally a couple of minutes in the car and you traverse the site daily if using the A road into Lostwithiel, which itself is also an incredibly historic place. The seaside villages and towns dotted along the river Fowey and coast are all quite spectacular with rustic charm and beautiful scenery. All in all a great place to stay with everything you need for a nice break in this idyllic part of the world.

Just to put into context - I stayed here on my own. Location: Rural, beautiful, spectacular, peaceful, horses, chickens, cats, dogs. A working farm and livery...you can choose to chat to the horse riders or just go about your own business. People: wonderful, helpful, kind. The owners and farm staff are amazing. A real warm atmosphere. Area: I used as a base and travelled out everyday to explore. In a nutshell - whether you are a lone traveller or a group - this is a perfect spot for relaxation, reflection if you want to keep yourself to yourself - however, if you want interaction, then all the people who use the livery are more than happy to chat and let you pet their horses (ask first of course) - the Apple Loft itself, is a beautiful authentic cottage with all the mod cons. You will want for nothing. I can't wait to go back and am planning my next visit already. Lastly, a big thank you to Vicki and Chris the amazing owners, Liz who helps out at the farm (we had such a laugh together) and of course, the beautiful Bisto (dog), Bill (cat) and all the horses who live there. xxxxxx (OK, so I struggle to be brief).

Nice welcome from the owners who were respectable of our privacy. Lovely homemade biscuits left in the cookie jar. We found lots of cobwebs and dead spiders (time of year?). Beds very comfortable and clean. Very well equipped kitchen. We couldn’t get Netflix to work :( We noticed there were no (visible) fire / smoke alarms? And we had some concerns around getting out of the downstairs bedroom in the event of a fire.

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome.  The cottage was thoroughly cleaned on the Saturday and checked again on the Tuesday morning, so we are sorry if you found the odd spider. Due to the number of beams, time of year etc .it is not always easy. You must have missed the smoke and a carbon monoxide detector in the living area. They are the same colour as the paint so easy to miss These are. checked regularly. The downstairs twin bedroom has bars at the rather low window to prevent small children from falling out of the window but these are made of thin copper tube and would be easy to pull out if necessary. We are happy you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

I struggled with the height of ceilings in the cottage, though I am 6ft 3. I think Height is something Sykes should mention about properties in general. Lots of nooks and crannies made for a challenging place to "de-web", so a little difficult for an arachnophobe to be in. However, we slept well, had everything we needed in the kitchen, loved the peace and quiet and the good certainly outweighs the minor issues. I would recommend staying to anyone.

The cottage is equipped with everything you could ever think of needing but honestly it was the owners who made it for us, Chris and Vicki really did go above and beyond. They were so patient with our son, Vicki made sure to let him know the first lambs of the season had been born then showed him where they were so each day he would check, there were about 18 by the time we had to leave! Vicky even named an orphan lamb after him! We had free roam of the farm and the surrounding fields so our pooch was in her element. This is an old building situated on a working farm so bugs, single lane roads, farm smells and uneven flooring are all part of the package. Wasn't an issue for us but worth noting if any of those things are a big issue for you. There was cake, biscuits, tea, coffee and milk waiting for us when we arrived and all cleaning products were provided. The lodge itself is beautiful with comfy clean beds and a wood burner for the evenings. The owners are nothing short of phenomenal, taking our girls out to feed the animals and ride the ponies and they seemed genuinely offended when we asked them how much we owed them! They were really helpful with advice on the local area too. The lodge is about a 15 minute drive from the nearest village Lostwithiel, where there are pubs, shops, a co-op and chippy. The hours they serve food in the pubs vary so check ahead. It's also within 90 minutes of the whole of Cornwall, within 15 minutes of the major roads to pretty much everywhere. Dogs are welcome in the lodge and in most of the local pubs and the lodge has a fenced garden to keep the doggy safe. Cornwall overall is amazing for dog owners with even some big attractions allowing dogs in. I can't recommend the Apple Loft highly enough, if you have kids who love animals you just will not get a better place to stay! Very reasonably priced and

The property

This characterful barn conversion, originally home to the cider press, in the east wing of the owner's home on a working farm on the beautiful Boconnoc Estate near Lostwithiel is a short drive of Fowey resort.

Perfect for family, friends and couples, the open-plan living area with kitchen, dining and sitting room area with a wood burning stove has a curved wall and ceiling beams, and the master galleried bedroom is accessed by steep stairs.

The low beams in the small twin bedroom make it ideal for children - they will adore the quirkiness, plus there is a bathroom with shower cubicle also on the ground floor.

The dinky enclosed garden at the rear is ideal for alfresco dining, surrounded by meadows and countryside, with resident lambs, cattle, horses, sheep, chickens and ducks to help feed!

There is even stabling and grazing for guests to bring their own horses!

The small village of Lerryn is three miles away with a family friendly pub and store.

Within a short drive are the delights of Fowey with harbour, restaurants, traditional inns and art galleries.

Hop aboard the passenger ferry across to Polruan.

The iconic fishing village of Polperro is a must visit destination with eateries and pubs huddled around the quayside and the fishing port of Looe with stretch of sandy beach can be reached by an amble around the scenic coastal footpath.

Lostwithiel, the ancient capital of Cornwall is six miles westwards and the market town of Liskeard is eight miles to the east.

With excellent golf courses, stately homes, castles, steam railways, sub-tropical gardens and rugged moorland - there is an attraction for all ages.

For that mix of coast and country, The Apple Loft ticks all the boxes.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
