  • "The first thing to say is that the information about 2 parking spots needs to be changed as soon as possible."

If your lucky enough to get a parking spot on the parking to the side where the cottages (read chalets) are it’s reasonably flat otherwise you’ll have a steep incline to negotiate up to the property. And for the elderly or infirmed it’s almost impossible to reach the property. As I said earlier they are down as cottages but as some other reviews mention they are really just chalets. The property was clean and tidy and the pots, pans and things were adequate. We have booked with Sykes before and always found them to be excellent properties, but on this occasion we felt let down by the lack of information in the cottage as the only information was from when Covid was about. Overall I’d class the cottage as ok for young families but as I say it’s not for the elderly

The place was nice and clean and causy but the carpets were too dusty. There were dust pilled up under the beds. Main Bathroom had no extractor fan, steam could never get dryed out. The bathroom curtain kept falling which was very annoying. One of the kitchen chair was wobbly, we were scared it would break. But dust and carpets were the main issue.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We will speak to our housekeeping team to get these issues resolved. Property Owner

The swimming pool and sauna was great to use we swam every day but we did use the shower facilities there after reading that the hot water didn’t last long in the bungalow but to be quite honest with the children it was just easier to shower straight after swimming so it suited us they were lovely and warm and kept very clean. The pub is absolutely beautiful the old hall is magnificent the staff were friendly. Also to point out Kevin the maintenance guy was so friendly and helpful (after having a heating problem he was straight on it and was sorted out) lots of lovely little places to go to we went into Looe, polperro, Galiath Falls were breathtaking and hearing the roar of the water! We shall definitely go back to this site the history surrounding it was amazing you can see the old pictures around the little arcade and pub which was really useful to read and the kids enjoyed looking it up as well couldn’t fault this at all it was all in all a wonderful week away!

Lodge very small and very dated decor. Settees have uncomfortable wooden bar across. Lighting in living area very poor. Second “bathroom” too small and shower door does not close so very claustrophobic. Swimming pool used for swimming lessons much of the time. This is a VERY basic no frills property - adequate for a week but I would not choose to stay in the property again. The seating area and kitchen diner was small for six people and the photos made it look bigger than it actually was. If you only use it as a base for visiting other places in Cornwall then its OK On the plus side was access to the swimming pool and a very reasonable pub on site but obviously booking was necessary as is everywhere you go this year

Thank you for your comments. The issues with the bathroom will be passed onto the management company. We have also discussed rearranging the dining furniture to create more space. Thanks again for commenting. Property Owner

Because of this we did feel a little let down although staff we interacted with were very helpful and friendly. We also think better mapping of the site would be very helpful as we spent a long time trying to locate the chalet as the reception was shut upon our arrival.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the on-site facilities. Including storm Francis! The cottage is laid out very well, & the kitchen spotless, & very well equipped. The view from the patio is great. As we are a 'mature' group, shallower steps would be better, also an additional step into the cottage, & the balustrade needs replacing. Also, although the property is very well insulated, the heating did not seem to be working, and a couple of evenings were a little chilly. These changes would raise this property from great, to exceptional. We would highly recommend this property, and it would be suitable for family groups of any age/mix. Thank you, in these difficullt times, it was so good to be able to stay in such a lovely , well presented property, and Cornwall is always beautiful. Well worth the long drive.

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
