  • "I’ve been renting holiday cottages in North Devon for the last decade, and this property sits firmly in my top three!"

The location is just perfect, only a couple of minutes to the (dog-friendly) beach and the town centre. Combe Martin itself is a great base location generally, but the proximity to the beach really makes this property stand out. The house had everything we needed to ensure a comfortable stay. The stairs are a little difficult to navigate (as someone with mobility problems) but this was made clear within the listing. The cream tea on arrival was really welcomed - some milk would have been nice so we could have brewed up on arrival. The addition of a dressing table would be great as I found it difficult to dry my hair, having to move one of the bedside tables to be able to sit on the floor near an outlet and mirror. The lack of an enclosed area for the dog was the only draw back we could find; Newberry Beach is just across the road and is dog friendly all year round so this was exceptionally convenient for us, though having to get shoes on, leash up the dog, and then walk him up and down the street outside for his final toilet break before bed was a little frustrating, it would be nice to just be able to open the door and let him outside as we do at home. We did also find ourselves having to pick up a fair amount of cat faeces from the front gravelled area, though there’s really very little that could be done to prevent this it’s maybe something the owner should be aware of as we did worry that it would be assumed that any we didn’t manage to get would be attributed to our dog. I’m unable to really pass comment on the cooking facilities as we ate out every evening, but at a glance it appeared as though everything needed to prepare meals was available. We had a fantastic week and this property and it’s location really contributed to that. Despite the slight niggle with the lack of enclosed outdoor space, we’re already looking at booking again for next year - and we have never re-booked a holiday let before! Thank you so much.

Could do with some kitchen knives. One provided was very bendy.

Dear Richard Thank you for your review It’s very kind of you I will definitely put some new knives in the coach house for the future thank you for letting me know! Hope to see you again Kind regards Jane Jennings Property Owner

  • "Found the property to be very comfortable and clean."

Nice location. Only problem for us no enclosed area for our little dog to safely have outside space so I don’t think the property is really suitable or safe for dogs as it opens onto the lane and cars go past the house. If travelling just as a couple it’s great but not with a dog.

Dear Janet Thank you for your feed back a short walk away to the woodlands 5 minutes up the hill to the right of the coach house is a very large area for dogs to walk and a huge big field , dogs can also go onto the pebble beach across the main road there are so many places to walk dogs safely in combe martin Kind regards Jane Jennings Property Owner

  • "The property is in an ideal place for access to village of Combe Martin, just a few minutes walk to the beach, cafes & restaurants."

It was a little difficult at first to get used to parking the car as the parking area is from a narrow lane. The rear gravelled area with seating & table is actually in the area where you park the car and, its is a pity that there are also the rubbish bins in this area, during our stay the weather was very hot and the bins were smelling. The property was well furnished, but found that the sofa was very soft and uncomfortable to sit on.

Dear Patricia We try to make the stay as comfortable as possible , the sofa is soft as it’s made of faux leather and feather down inside the cushions . I’m sorry it was uncomfortable for you! The bins are by the garage away from the house with lids closed, so unsure why they were smelly but will look into that ! It’s important to have parking space at the property ! As there isn’t and free parking in the area we are lucky to have the space at the coach house I put a small table and chairs by the flowers so people are able to sit for a while if needed Thank you for your feed back Kind regards Jane Jennings Property Owner

Was no fault of the owner we knew it had one when I booked. Just need to warn anyone else if they have any mobility issues it might not be suitable. Other than that it was a very nice place to stay

Dear Shirley Thank you for your kind feed back I’m so sorry to hear back is still not good I do hope you can get it sorted and you feel a lot better soon Lots of love and healing to you Jane x Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

The cottage was very close to good dog walking areas and the property had everything we needed for a great holiday. The owner, Jane, was friendly and helpful when we arrived and the neighbours too. I’d strongly recommend Comb Martin as a centre for exploring this beautiful and dramatic coast.

Thank you Maurice I’m glad you both enjoyed your stay It was lovely meeting you both I look forward to seeing you both in the near future Kind regards Jane Property Owner

  • "The instructions for using the oven need to be a little clearer, we tried a few times what was written in the welcome book but could not make it work, so we gave up."

Could not get the Netfilx to work, not that we overly needed it, but it would have been nice. We did contact the owner but had no phone signal in the property she could not get hold of us, maybe a signal booster inside may be a good idea. A number of the light bulbs were out, at what we paid for a week away i would expect things to have been checked. The double jacuzzi bath is a nice touch, although it takes a while to fill, the shower hose is still held together with tape, which i noticed in a previous feedback. All in all we really enjoyed our stay, very comfortable. just a few little things that could do with being sorted

  • "Really lovely place, very clean got everything you need, even a vase of flowers on the table which we thought was lovely thing to do, local to shops and couple of pubs but you do need to go down a little hill its not bad and you and look at amazing view of sea while having 5 mins seating about, coombe martin is such a lovely place to see, the owner sometimrs about as joined to her house she is lovely and very helpful same as the locals there."

Only thing we will say the settee is very low to floor so if you struggling with back or knees then be best using the arm chair. You wont regret staying there its 5 mins from beach for dogs too.

Thank you for your feed back Iv put an extra large cushion in the coach house now Property Owner

Beautiful little cottage in a good location in walking distance to the town. Everything you need and more in the cottage. Bed very comfortable and sofa to sink into. Very clean on arrival. Jane was very helpful when we wanted some help with places to go and things to do. Will defiantly be staying here again!

  • "Holiday was great."

Accommodation was good, although parking was tight. Unfortunately the lack of bath and shower let the place down. A jacoozi is not appropriate for two 75 year olds. Jayne was very friendly and helpful, and the accommodation was very dog friendly whilst remaining extremely comfortable.

I’m sorry about the jacuzzi But I do think it’s states it on the website and pictures of it ! But thank you for the feed back Regards Jane x Property Owner

.not a problem for me but if you have a dog you will need to keep it on a lead. no ice-maker BUT there IS a freezer. Bath a challenge if you only want a shower but can be done with care. WiFi good. I enjoyed my week here very much, just wish the MET office could get their forecast right ! Lovely area.

  • "The kitchen was poorly equipped."

No serving spoons. cutlery thrown in the drawer. The cups has stain spots and we could not remove them. Also when water was tipped down the sink, it glugged for a while and then there was a slight odour of bad eggs. Think it needs some drain clear. I doubt the owner is aware of this. We had to have help sorting our the underfloor heating. One switch was in a cupboard that had no handle. We thought there was a shower not just the jacuzzi. Our fault we know. Never assume!! But it was difficult to crouch down in the jacuzzi to have a shower, using the hose which had a temporary repair. The photo, showed a private courtyard, but from the Coach house you looked out onto other parked cars and the side road and when you were sitting inside you felt you were in a goldfish bowl as everyone could see right into the room. My last comment is a personal one, but the bedding had been washed in very strong smelling detergent - fabric conditioner and it was so over powering it made us sneeze. Fortunately there were spare pillow cases, so we covered 2 cushions and used these instead. The smell was very strong. This is the first time I have ever written an adverse comment, but feel I should.

Sorry to hear your feed but I have always kept the coach house to a high standard cleaning it from top to bottom I’m very proud of my property. All large utensils are in the cupboard above And I use bold washing power as it give out a lovely fresh smell at the bottom of the bed in the ottoman are extra pillow cars and bedding Kind regards Jane Property Owner

  • "We loved how close the cottage was to Combe Martin village, just a short stroll to the beach and high street."

We did experience a problem with the Jacuzzi bath as the shower didnt work, we reported the problem to the owner who was really helpful and asked a local plumber to fix it but the job needed to be done after our departure date. The fridge doesnt have a freezer box so we couldnt use our cool box for days on the beach, there is a ice maker but couldnt get it to work. Just a few other minor comments; the spiral staircase is a nice feature but would be a bit tricky for a disabled person; we noticed a few cob-webs on the windows and the kitchen utensils were a tad sparse. Otherwise we had a great time and will probably book this place again.

For our age the stairs were a bit of a challenge. Also found dirty tissue in the bathroom and a slither of glass on the rug near the kitchen sink. But overall it was in a lovely area and central to many of the places we wanted to visit
