"With it being so cold and the heating being on a timer the cottage was very cold, we did tell Graham who said he would contact the owner but nothing changed."
I sat in my coat at night. There was no wood for the wood burner.
For the first time ever there was no welcome pack, not even a bottle of milk or tea bags or sugar. It would be advantageous to have a king size duvet for the double bed. The warmest room was the bathroom.
Thank you for your feedback. I wish you had contacted us during your stay using the number in the guest book because we could have explained the heating. The radiators are timed to come on twice a day and the living room and bedroom radiators can also be controlled by guests if they need to. We don't supply logs in May but the guest book does explain that guests are welcome to buy logs and light the fire. We do supply a welcome pack of dishwasher tablets, teabags and coffee pods but not milk because of individual tastes.

"Excellent base for exploring and walking."
Crazy road up from the village to the cottage, so don't take your sports car!!!!
We are really glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage, yes it is perfect for walkers with direct access onto Moorland from the top of the lane. The lane up from town is quite narrow in places which is typical of the lanes on Dartmoor and there is an alternative route from town which comes around Nattadon Common to the cottage from the top.

"A great stay at Ash Cottage!"
The cottage is lovely and very well equipped. Really cosy to come in after a day exploring Dartmoor and lighting the woodburner.
Although the weather wasn't kind to us we still got out and enjoyed the surrounding area.
The night sky is amazing and we were even lucky enough to see the Northern Lights across the valley.
Would highly recommend.

"We have stayed in lots of places over the years my husband thinks this is one of the best."
The cottage was wonderful. As soon as you open the front door you can see money and quality is in the cottage. There is a downstairs double shower and bathroom. The kitchen has everything you can need. There is one little step going down to the lounge which has a log fire.upstairs a double bedroom and a twin bedroom and a toilet.
The bedrooms look out on to Dartmoor in the distance.
We did a few walks from the property so we don’t need to use the car.
The village of Chagford has some really good places.
Chagford inn the food was very good.
The local bakeries the pasty water big and a good price.
The cat and mouse cakes were delicious.
Would definitely stay again and would recommend.

"A beautiful cottage with far reaching views."
If you want to get away from it all, this is definitely the place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful with the sounds of nature. Couldn't fault the accommodation. It was spotlessly clean, carefully maintained and very comfortable. The manual contained all how to use instructions for appliances. Perhaps could have done with the use of a hairdryer. The walk down the hill to Chagford only takes about 8 minutes. However it takes a bit longer going back up the hill but there is a bench to take a break halfway! There are places to choose to eat and drink with the friendly locals. I would highly recommend as a place to stay.
Thank you for the great feedback and really pleased you enjoyed your stay.

"A really lovely week in Chagford, in beautiful Dartmoor, Ash Cottage had everything we needed and was the perfect base for a holiday in Devon."
The cottage itself is well kitted out, extremely well presented with a well-stocked kitchen, ridiculously comfortable beds and a cosy home-away-from-home feeling. Even the parking area is well maintained outside the cottage and the garden was the perfect place to watch the sun setting over Dartmoor. We were incredibly lucky with weather but the nights were chilly so the log burner in the living room made sure we didn't get too cold at all.
Chagford is a great base for Dartmoor - really friendly village with good amenities, useful shops and several pubs to choose from. The cottage is close to some of the highlights of Dartmoor such as the Teign Gorge and Haytor Rocks, and the countryside around Chagford is lovely. Wildlife was a bonus with oodles of bats in the evenings and an unexpected goshawk in the lane on the way up to the cottage.
The one thing to note is that the lane up to Ash Cottage is in disrepair and very steep - we ended up driving down to the pub in the evening for meals out after schlepping back up one evening. This is typical for Dartmoor, but definitely something to bear in mind if you have limited mobility or if you're nervous of Devon lanes (In which case... you have limited options in the area!). I'd wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Ash Cottage!

"We enjoyed our week staying at this beautifully renovated cottage."
It was well equipped and spotlessly clean. The views are beautiful and it's only a short walk (uphill) to Nattadon Common. It was perfectly positioned for exploring Dartmoor. Chagford itself is great for eating out and has some interesting artisan shops.

"Lovely quiet spot within walking distance of one of the few villages that has escaped modern ruin."
The property has been furnished to a very high spec. If you like reading manuals, there are enough to keep you very happy, especially if you want to use the log burner.
The property is comfortable and spotlessly clean, it is obvious that a lot of time and effort is put in, in keeping it to this high standard.
Two very minor gripes; There was no cutlery basket in the dishwasher, so still ended up washing up. Also, it would be nice to add some normal sized mugs to the large number of coffee cups that were there.
I would happily return to this property if I wanted a quiet week away again.
Hi Ralph, thank you very much for the positive feedback, we are glad you enjoyed it and hope you can get back one day.
Just reviewing your comments, we will see if we have space to add some more mugs. The dishwasher is brand new and has a full-width cutlery rack across the top which may not have been obvious.

Lovely seating area above the property looking out over the fields to the ancient stones. The village is really friendly and has everything you need. There was giant chess in the graveyard, a food truck on Fridays and some musicians outside one of the pubs.
