  • "We have stayed in lots of places over the years my husband thinks this is one of the best."

The cottage was wonderful. As soon as you open the front door you can see money and quality is in the cottage. There is a downstairs double shower and bathroom. The kitchen has everything you can need. There is one little step going down to the lounge which has a log fire.upstairs a double bedroom and a twin bedroom and a toilet. The bedrooms look out on to Dartmoor in the distance. We did a few walks from the property so we don’t need to use the car. The village of Chagford has some really good places. Chagford inn the food was very good. The local bakeries the pasty water big and a good price. The cat and mouse cakes were delicious. Would definitely stay again and would recommend. Thank you for letting us use your beautiful propert.

There is the added bonus of a raised garden accessed by steps was peaceful and great for stargazing. The owners even supplied blankets and flasks for sitting out in the evening. The cottage was in a great location 5 minute drive into village square with a good variety of independent shops, pubs and cafes.

  • "A beautiful cottage with far reaching views."

If you want to get away from it all, this is definitely the place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful with the sounds of nature. Couldn't fault the accommodation. It was spotlessly clean, carefully maintained and very comfortable. The manual contained all how to use instructions for appliances. Perhaps could have done with the use of a hairdryer. The walk down the hill to Chagford only takes about 8 minutes. However it takes a bit longer going back up the hill but there is a bench to take a break halfway! There are places to choose to eat and drink with the friendly locals. I would highly recommend as a place to stay.

  • "A really lovely week in Chagford, in beautiful Dartmoor, Ash Cottage had everything we needed and was the perfect base for a holiday in Devon."

The cottage itself is well kitted out, extremely well presented with a well-stocked kitchen, ridiculously comfortable beds and a cosy home-away-from-home feeling. Even the parking area is well maintained outside the cottage and the garden was the perfect place to watch the sun setting over Dartmoor. We were incredibly lucky with weather but the nights were chilly so the log burner in the living room made sure we didn't get too cold at all. Chagford is a great base for Dartmoor - really friendly village with good amenities, useful shops and several pubs to choose from. The cottage is close to some of the highlights of Dartmoor such as the Teign Gorge and Haytor Rocks, and the countryside around Chagford is lovely. Wildlife was a bonus with oodles of bats in the evenings and an unexpected goshawk in the lane on the way up to the cottage. The one thing to note is that the lane up to Ash Cottage is in disrepair and very steep - we ended up driving down to the pub in the evening for meals out after schlepping back up one evening. This is typical for Dartmoor, but definitely something to bear in mind if you have limited mobility or if you're nervous of Devon lanes (In which case... you have limited options in the area!). I'd wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Ash Cottage!

  • "We enjoyed our week staying at this beautifully renovated cottage."

It was well equipped and spotlessly clean. The views are beautiful and it's only a short walk (uphill) to Nattadon Common. It was perfectly positioned for exploring Dartmoor. Chagford itself is great for eating out and has some interesting artisan shops.

  • "Lovely quiet spot within walking distance of one of the few villages that has escaped modern ruin."

The property has been furnished to a very high spec. If you like reading manuals, there are enough to keep you very happy, especially if you want to use the log burner. The property is comfortable and spotlessly clean, it is obvious that a lot of time and effort is put in, in keeping it to this high standard. Two very minor gripes; There was no cutlery basket in the dishwasher, so still ended up washing up. Also, it would be nice to add some normal sized mugs to the large number of coffee cups that were there. I would happily return to this property if I wanted a quiet week away again.

Hi Ralph, thank you very much for the positive feedback, we are glad you enjoyed it and hope you can get back one day. Just reviewing your comments, we will see if we have space to add some more mugs. The dishwasher is brand new and has a full-width cutlery rack across the top which may not have been obvious. • "Beautifully renovated property, well equipped, stunning views over Dartmoor."

Lovely seating area above the property looking out over the fields to the ancient stones. The village is really friendly and has everything you need. There was giant chess in the graveyard, a food truck on Fridays and some musicians outside one of the pubs.
