A fabulous place to stay for a real sense of history.

The buildings were so interesting architecturally, and in such a quiet area with lovely views of the open hills opposite. The cows wandering through the grounds twice a day added a real charm.

Lovely character house kids loved the garden which was visited by wild ponies plenty to do in area the narrow roads took a bit of getting used to we had lovely weather beds comfortable and nice to cook on the arga.

What can I say, Hole farm was truly a magical experience for my entire family.

We all had an amazing time here. From it's grade 1 listing quirkyness, old beams, wonky floorboards, old granite fireplace and the rolling Dartmoor hills around it. Having grown up on Dartmoor (now living in south Wales) and it being a special birthday it was nice to return to my roots with the family and dog who all had an amazing time, Hole farm is a great base for walking across the moors and Chagford is an awesome quirky little village too, well stocked with everything you'll need. We'll be returning to Hole farm in the future

We have been coming to Hole Farm for well over 20 years now and have the most wonderful family memories.

It doesn’t matter what the weather is like, we simply love it! Thank you for allowing us to make Hole Farm our family home once a year.

This is an incredible opportunity to stay in a Grade I Listed Devon Longhouse.

The owner provided a thoughtfully decorated Christmas tree and added to a very special holiday for our large family gathering. The large dining table, AGA Stove, fireplace with plenty of wood and the surrounding moorland were lovely. Trips into Chagford were easy and delightful. Excursions to see Castle Drogo and Wistman's Wood were checked off the bucketlist. Perfect for anyone looking for a rural retreat steeped in history.

An absolutely amazing property!

Well stocked and furnished. Just beautiful! Loved every minute of it. Oh, and the little cottage was so cozy! Would highly recommend it!

Quite comfortable but as an elderly person did have a little difficulty climbing the stairs and into the main bedroom. Dogs loved the large garden though. Great holiday destination

This is a very old historic property and as such one cannot expect 21st century high-spec.

amenities. It is certainly a much more comfortable farmhouse than I was brought up in !! Hole Farm made a lovely cross-generational family holiday spot for the week with Chagford being close by for supplies/cafes/pubs.

Wonderful holiday in a perfect setting.

The only thing that we woukd have liked is a TV in the cottage.

Wonderful and special place: warm and cosy, beautifully furnished, restored and respected.

Perfect for a gathering. Perhaps not so great for small children as steep wooden staircases and old brick/slate floors. We were 7 adults, young and old, and a dog, and had the must perfect stay. Thank you so much.

What a beautifully preserved longhouse and feel it was a privilege to be able to stay and experience living there, if only for a week. Interesting reading the history in the log book. We loved Hole Farm and it enabled the whole family to get together. The care and attention to provide plenty of logs for us (didn’t use them all), and plenty of toilet paper, washing powder etc which does make you feel like you’ve done everything possible for the perfect stay. It was much appreciated. Thank you.

Back at Hole Farm again - such a great house and just right for our large family - three generations.

Thank you for the swift help when we had a fuse go - we now know where the second fuse box is! We love everything but a little welcome pack would be even better - a little milk would be nice. Thank you for another great stay - and we had sunshine all week.

We loved the house and would revisit, our only comment is that we think some of the beds need looking at , in the smaller double room the bed frame needed attention as squeaked whenever one moved.

And the single beds on right of stairs. Everything else was fabulous, There was plenty of hot water, the chairs were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the fire threw out lots of heat.

This must be about our 15th or 20th stay and we love coming on our annual family holiday.

We had amazing weather for February and did lots of fabulous walking. Fundamentally we would not change a thing to the house!! Some helpful feedback I hope, The outside light over the back garden was not working. Searchlights not needed

12 of us went to celebrate a 60th birthday.

Absolutely loved it. Beds comfy. Lovely big kitchen so we could all sit around the table at once. Logs left for us to have a real fire. And only a 1.6 mile walk to the centre of Chagford for a pint & some lunch. We all said we'd love to come back

Another wonderful stay at Hole Farm, a houseful for a 60th birthday at the weekend and then just the two of us and the dogs for the rest of the week, the house was great for both uses.

A great Sunday roast at the Drewe Arms and waking up to 4 inches of snow one day added to the enjoyment

Our weeklong stay at Hole Farm was truly a wonderful, magical experience.

Everyone in our group loved the age and quirkiness of the house while appreciating the modern conveniences as well. My friends, family and I have been to Hole Farm many times over the years and have always enjoyed our time there.

Dishcombe is an absolutely wonderful cottage and one of our favourites in Devon.

Caroline and Luke are fantastic hosts. The cottage is perfectly located with easy access to hiking trails and shops and pubs. The kitchen is an absolute joy to cook in and the cottage is spotless and well laid out. Most importantly, the beds are extremely comfortable so you get a proper rest on your holiday. Always a five star! Thank you so much Caroline and Luke!

We all loved Hole Farm it is absolutely charming and we felt privileged to stay there.

However we were relieved to spend a week with out falling down stairs. Clients must be aware of multiple trip hazards.

We have stayed here over 14 times.

The property is becoming tired and unloved. Stains on ceilings plaster coming off walls over the floor in lounge and main bedroom. Lack of water pressure in cottage baths and showers difficult as is washing machine which also has dodgy door. Shippon padlocked so no access to any washing machines nor could I get to electrics when power outed many times. Phone not working couldn't contact caretaker spiders and cobwebs in most corners. Mould around many windows stained wood in hall and en suite and lounge. Broken soap dish in shippon bathroom. Filthy fire extinguisher. Out of date PAT test. Chairs with little padding are uncomfortable both log baskets have significant holes burnt ceiling from spotlight lounge. Bathroom "part re tiled" old mismatched tiles still present. Rusty metal heater bathroom. Broken night store heater. Rusty bin bathroom. It's never been perfect and I understand that with a house of that age. In the past we have put up with broken boiler Internet mice piano delivery roof thatchers etc and never complained as we all work in the industry and experience issues but most of this could be delt with so easily. Most annoyingly being banned previously for the woman' on the horse and HER dogs defecating in the yard! We really don't feel that £1700 is a good price for the property it's the most we have paid and the house and facilities are way less than our previous experiences. I have photos of most of the issues should the owner like to see them. I understand management remotely is difficult. I have not shared on social media and look forward to a response.

We had a lovely time in this amazing property.

However there are some things it would have been nice to know in advance. One expects old houses to be uneven and have sloping floors, and this is part of their charm, but I consider the stairs in this house to be extreme. One member of our party was never going to get up them! The house feels like 'a work in progress' with furnishings and equipment having been randomly brought in from various sources. There was plenty of cooking equipment - for use on the aga! - but a slight lack of crockery, some of which has seen better days and which I would have sent back had it been used in a restaurant. There were 7 in our party. There are 10 chairs in the kitchen, 8 in the sitting room. The cottage, with 2 bedrooms, has 1 x 2 seater sofa, 1 dining chair and 2 small stools. The main garden has 6 chairs. Water pressure is non-existent. Had we been a group of 12, as originally planned, I think that we would have struggled. It is fairly close to Chagford but this is not a pleasant evening stroll to the pub because it is through small lanes and, of course, dark when returning. The housekeeper confirmed that things such as loo rolls, cleaning materials and condiments are available in the house - useful to know when catering. Overall, I repeat, we had a very enjoyable week but I would think very carefully about the party I was travelling with before booking this property again.

This is a wonderful old property and we loved the house…BUT… the plumbing/water supply is appalling.

Having held the shower head closely to myself to get wet in the first place, applied shower gel, the water decided to stop completely, I was left unable to rinse off! The loo cistern didn’t fill up in one loo (presumably there was a tap on elsewhere) so no flush for a no 2! The bidet hot tap drips continuously (awful waste of water and is this affecting the whole water supply to the rest of the house). The favoured shower was the downstairs one by the football table, this was the best of a bad bunch. Please do something to boost the water supply, Hole Farm is almost unrentable as it is.

As soon as we turned in through the gateway we knew that Hole Farm was a very special place.

Finding the key and exploring the wonderful house and gardens was amazing fun for everyone who came. The cottage worked perfectly for the family with 2 dogs. We played games for a week and loved cooking together in the wonderful kitchen. Chagford is such a friendly place and even has a swimming pool. 100% vote to come again. We adored it. Thank you

This property is very old and so the stairs and floors are not even and some stairs steep , but this is all part of its charm.

I found there was a piano in the study and would have bought music to play if I had known! It added to the holiday. (If it could be tuned please.) We had all the family and enjoyed the peace and quiet of being at Hole Farm. The gardens are beautiful and having games to play was very thoughtful.(croquet) Flowers in vases to greet us were lovely. Most enjoyable and more than we expected, a real home for us and the annexe was very good . Thankyou to the owners. Thankyou so much

We had an amazing stay at Hole Farm.

We all loved the history of the building and it had everything we needed. Comfortable and relaxing. Perfect place to celebrate an 80th birthday. We thought Chagford and Fernworthy reservoir were great and some great walks. A handle to help you up the step to the en-suite bedroom would be helpful. Thank you for sharing your home.

The improvements I would like to see would be a couple of dedicated cupboards in the kitchen for food storage, as the shelves are inadequate and make the place look untidy.

There was also no TV in the cottage, and the one in the main living room is rather small for a large group of people.

We love Hole Farm - it’s a very special house and we can gather the whole family there.

We appreciate so much the opportunity to stay in such a wonderful location - it’s warm, well equipped, fabulous Aga and generally magical. I think this was our fourth stay but hoping for many more. Thank you.

Hole Farm is an amazing place to stay.

This was our second trip there, returning for the amazing quirky historic house, the lovely log fire at the end of a day exploring the surroundings, and for the town of Chagford with its wealth of interesting shops and welcoming pubs and coffee shops. What’s not to love!

We had a great stay and a wonderful weekend away together as a large group who haven't seen each other in quite some time with a toddler and a dog.

The caretaker was just a phone call away and was incredibly supportive when we needed her which was fantastic. I would definitely recommend, it is a lovely historical house surrounded by amazing scenery, we will definitely be back at some point.

Fridge/freezer inadequate for 8 people.

Beautiful idyllic setting

We all loved staying at Hole Farm.

It had such character, history and a homely welcoming feeling. The garden was a beautiful place to sit and we liked the entrance porch to leave coats and shoes It also allowed for the dogs to go out in the garden, but not into the road. Chagford is a charming town not far away and beautiful Dartmoor is all around waiting to be discovered.

An amazing historic farm cottage.

Delivered on every aspect of our holiday. Great location with every facility you could need. Everyone felt at home and didn’t want to leave. Helen, the housekeeper, was very attentive. A very memorable holiday.

Shabby chic perhaps rather than pristine new. But who wants pristine new. This was our second visit. Hope you will allow us back. There is something about the place. It has what the ’70’s freaks would have called “good vibes”.

The whole (extended) family were bowled over by the property and location. It was a rare privilege to spend a holiday in such an interesting historic house - in fact we enjoyed an entire evening going through the Grade 1 listing description online trying to unpick the fascinating development of the building. The 'Dartmoor longhouse' will always have a special meaning for us. We all loved the garden too and when the caretakers arrived with baby lambs on our last morning it just confirmed we were experiencing a much appreciated dream holiday!

This holiday is a special time for us, with 3 generations getting together for an annual gathering. Your property suited us perfectly. It's comfy, spacious, quiet and quirky. We loved the area, particularly the walking,but just relaxing in the house was also a pleasure. Thank you for sharing it.

Really beautiful house to share with friends.

Real character and great spaces to share dinner and hang out in lounge. Very comfy beds and a fabulous view. Great parking spaces for many. (tiny thoughts as would definitely come back -microwave and toaster may need a little love soon and a 2nd cafetiere would be good!)

We have had the best stay at Hole farm, it was the perfect place to celebrate my 30th Birthday with friends.

The cottages were fantastic.

The weather was warm for mid October so we didn't light the fire which we had been looking forward to. Chagford is a beautiful village with shops, pubs and restaurants. It was a pity that the lanes aren't good for walking at night , about 1.5 miles.

Hole farm is a one of a kind place full of history and an ideal place for a family get together we had a few issues with TVs not working but I presume this was due to signal problems we would definitely stay here agsin

when i phoned to say that we were to arrive a day late and left phone number etc no one contacted me.

throughout the fortnight we had no contact with anyone from Sykes. we had expected clean sheets and towels for the second week but no one turned up. on the plus side someone did turn up to cut the grass! The crockery provided was poor and there was barely enough of it particularly glasses and mugs. considering the rent being charged clean sheets and towels and comprehensive crockery is not unreasonable

Hole Farm is an unique property, and we have stayed there many times before.

After a 10 year absence the only changes have been to soft furnishings and the kitchen layout, the house remains as true as possible to its medieval origins and we love it. The only bad thing is that it is now solidly booked until the autumn, preventing us returning for another week. One minor thing - we couldn't find kitchen scales anywhere, which led to a family bonding exercise in the design of a Heath Robinson contraption using pivots, which was fun but perhaps not very accurate. Otherwise everything you can imagine is available onsite, including bats.

We all had a brilliant time, from oldest to youngest and also the furry kind.

The house is unique and wonderful and i can now appreciate why the kitchen was the heart of the house in bygone times. Definitely will re-visit.

Amazing Grade 1 property with original features going back to the XVII century.

This property does not offer only an amazing location, plenty of space and a large garden, but the opportunity to stay in a truly historical building. We are experienced worldwide travellers and always looking for accommodations that offer unique experiences, and this was perfect to impress my kids (!)We have visited Chagford (6min drive), walked through the Daartmoor National Park (20min drive) and even taken a trip to the seaside (Teighmough is less than 1 hour away). My family has enjoyed the evenings playing board games (from the many available in the house)by the enormous chimney. Being an old farm the building can be a bit cold so wrap up and set the fire with the provider logs when coming back from your day trip to enjoy the evening. The kitchen is amazing, with the large AGA cooker and all sort of cooking utensils, more that we would normally use during holidays :-)’’

Wonderful historical thatched longhouse dating back to their times.

Enjoyed reading the family history and Scott family tree. Quite remote location so some negotiating very narrow country lanes required. Felt very safe in social distancing times and loved wandering around nearby Chagford which is a 2 mile scenic walk. Also quite centrally located in beautiful Dartmoor to explore and visit the coast.

This cottage has everything you could hope for and is great for a big group or a couple of families.

The property was really full of character and very comfortable. The only small problem we had was occasionally running out of hot water. The location is gorgeous, a short drive to the local village of Chagford and out on to the moors.

Such a wonderful place to stay.

We booked to be near my parents, but independent. It was so relaxed and with the most stunning grounds and surrounding countryside. The kitchen was superbly equipped and the caretakers were incredibly discreet, but terribly helpful if needed. This historic farmhouse was perfect for us for a wonderful rural retreat, totally private and very spacious.

The Farm house was beautiful and accommodated us with plenty of room and very comfortable beds . The Location was beautiful so peaceful and resting but close to the very Pretty village of Chagford and some great Pubs and some great walks and countryside . Thankyou for making a great Memory of our Family get together . Dartmoor is beautiful . A great place for us to celebrate my parents 90th and 95th birthdays respectively with all the family.

A very unusual cottage.

Superb property & absolutely well equipped for a family visit.

We loved everything about every room and the modern bathrooms but most of all the kitchen, especially the Ago oven ! The cottage was great for Grandma, as she had her own room and a modern bathroom. Would recommend it to anyone who was having a large/mixed age family gathering. The Caretaker Rosie and her team were well organised and made our stay a holiday to remember. Stunning location and the local people in Chagford were all so friendly and helpful. Easy access to visit places and Dartford is such an unique place. We would book this fabulous farm again.

Very authentic experience bringing you back in time.

Solid comfort with a constant fire burning in the Aga stove made the kitchen center of the house as in old times. Pots, pans and washing machines all in place for a big family. That the farm is a restoration work in progress doesn't make the experience less authentic. For people loving country life style. A marked footpath to Meldon Common would increase value.

This is a sensational historical dwelling .

For hikers, hill runners, cyclists, nature and wildlife lovers it is perfect. Warm in winter . Exciting old features

We had several phone calls for people we had never heard of .

This was a little annoying. We love this house and Dartmoor and will be back for our 15th or 16th stay. So many that I can’t remember the number of times we have stayed at hole farm. Simply love it!!

A genuine piece of west-country history!

A unique experience to holiday in such an old building with lots of character.

A wonderful house but obviously not practical for all people especially elderly or infirm.

We loved the garden and the peaceful surroundings, a great place for a family holiday.

Hole Farm is the most amazing holiday let!

It is full of history and quirkiness and was perfect for a large three generation family. We loved it! It is by no means a luxury let, but is adequately equipped. We would have liked a washing line or an airer as not all clothes can be tumble dried.

Sorry you have sold out to Sykes. Big is not beautiful. We prefer a small local company offering a personal service. Probably won't be using Sykes. Makes the first question of this questionnaire irrelevant.
