The barn was spotlessly clean on our arrival and we loved the spacious interior layout and mezzanine bedroom which gave a really airy feel. The views from the garden were stunning and there's direct access on to the moors for walks. We also enjoyed a delicious meal at the local pub the Peter Tavy Inn - the pies are epic. Highly recommended and we would love to return for a longer stay next time.

However this place really stands out from the crowd. The spectacular views, welcoming hosts, amazing facilities along with clean, tidy and spacious living arrangements, it truly ticked all the boxes. It felt like being home from home and the fresh eggs that the owners left were delious and a lovely touch. This place is really special and one of the best we've stayed, we'll be sure to return in the not too distant future!

Spacious, clean, lots of natural light and warm. Lovely views out of the window. Off the beaten track a bit so very quiet. Beds comfy, didn’t sleep too well mainly due to torrential rain and wind pelting the cottage but then that would have been the same at home. Managed to see so much in a short space of time - Lyford Gorge, St. Michael’s Church on Brentor, Foggintor Quarry, Great Mis Tor, all within 15/20 min drive.

Wow what lovely feedback; thank you so much! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your break and got to explore the local area too despite the weather! We all need the rain to stop now for a bit don’t we! All our best wishes to you Property Owner

The interior is very well planned and beautiful in details. It has everything one needs, with comfort and style. The wood burner was not working at the time unfortunately, but will soon be again - I’m sure that will make it even more special. Ellen welcomed us with some eggs (amongst the best I’ve ever eaten), flowers and dog biscuits - thank you!

Thank you so much for such lovely feedback - we really appreciate it. We’re glad that you enjoyed your break and apologise that the wood burner was out of commission for safety reasons while you were here. • "We LOVED our stay at Meader."

It was spotlessly clean and well thought out. We loved the location which was very rural and this was exactly what we like. The nearness of the moor was wonderful which could be accessed from the farm gates. But the convenience of the easy journey to Tavistock for supplies and lovely canal/river walks was great. So many lovely dog walks in this area. The owners next door were very kind and attentive and worked hard to make us welcome and comfortable. We have no hesitation in recommending this property for outdoorsy kind of people who love quiet and nature.

  • "The Owners were welcoming and friendly."

We did have a few issues which did get sorted although the oven took a week. The beds were comfortable and the barn was warm, the settees left a lot to be desired. The woodburner popped on top outside when lit even when the damper was closed definitely needs servicing. Worst thing is the road it is more potholes than road I can't see the council doing anything with this being a no through road when there are so many other roads needing attention, maybe they can try and do something themselves, there are no passing places and on meeting a land rover and trailer I had to reverse quarter of a mile until he could pass. It did stop us going back lunch time to go back out in afternoon as one bone shaker a day was quite sufficient.

Hi Helen - Thanks for your review. We tried our very best to help you have an enjoyable time during your stay and we are sorry that you found it didn’t meet your expectations. We had the oven repaired as soon as we possibly could once you’d reported the fault; unfortunately the week leading up to Christmas is a difficult time to get an engineer to fix an appliance. The property also has a full convection microwave that we showed you how to use during the wait and we didn’t charge for your extra wood loads as a goodwill gesture. Our wood burner is fully up to date with servicing as you can see from our safety certificates, however, we will ask the company to double check the issues you have raised. We agree that the road surface is poor - as are many others in rural Devon and particularly on the approach to very secluded properties like ours - which is why we state this very clearly on the property description. Im afraid we can’t resurface or alter the width of public roads ourselves. Property Owner

Great property with everything we needed for our stay. Clean, warm and welcoming for humans and dogs. Loved it. Great location with easy access to walks from the door or just a short drive to stunning walks like Burrator reservoir or Bellever Tor/Forest all the more glorious with the autumn colours. Night sky is incredibly with low light pollution. Excellent food at the Peter Tavy Inn but it is a two mile, not one mile, up hill walk home. Perfect for walking off your meal but some may prefer to drive down and back.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I will contact Sykes to update the description of the walk to Peter Tavy as it’s definitely more of a 2 mile hike than a walk! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas Property Owner

Perhaps worth warning people that it is v isolated - walking down to the pub in the evening is not really an option! Salt and pepper as two of the 'basics' would be good. Also no soap supplied in the upstairs bathroom! Otherwise no complaints - we had a lovely time - wonderful sunset one night and the Milky Way the next and loved to being able to walk right out onto the Moor.

Thank you very much for your feedback and comments. We supply milk, biscuits, eggs, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and bar soap in both bathrooms usually as well as basics such as toilet roll. The photos don’t do the accommodation justice, it was beautiful. When we opened the door we were wowed. The one thing I was upset about being away from home for Christmas was not having a Christmas tree, but to my surprise there had a beautiful tree set up in the living room which was beyond perfect. It was homely, spacious, cosy, with stunning views. Lovely local walks to take the dog. Only thing I will say is don’t underestimate the narrow roads around the area and road leading to the cottage, it’s bumpy, dark and quite a squeeze with a large 4x4 but it just made the journey even more exciting. Ellen and her partner were a delight. Definitely will be staying again.

Very peaceful and gorgeous views across the valley. We specifically like reasonably remote properties for the tranquility of our stay. The property was clean, comfortable and spacious for two and a medium sized dog. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The road into the property is a narrow single lane as described in the listing. There are a couple of pothole’s before your reach Broadmoor Farm and a little hedge/bramble trimming in places is required. However this did not hinder our stay at Meader and we would happily recommend this property and stay here again.

Peace and serenity sums it up for me. I felt totally relaxed and chilled there. Loved the 3 local rural pictures has you enter the front door and would have loved to have seen similar types on all the empty, vacant picture hangers throughout the property. Enjoyed great views but being a retired Gardener would have liked the huge fuschia bush to be cut down to stone wall level to access the wonder scenery from the bench table while having a coffee or glass of wine. Facilities were excellent but the oven shelving racks could do with a deep clean and a few of the oven trays replacing. All in all had a great time there.

The cottage is perfectly located for immediate walking access onto Dartmoor, with multiple Tors surrounding the property. Several supermarkets are 10 mins away. Luxurious bathrooms (2 showers plus a big bath tub meant there were no queues even after a long wet walk!), comfortable beds, the big wood burner in the spacious living room and the well equipped kitchen made our autumn stay extremely enjoyable and the mezzanine bedroom made the cottage stand out from the rest. There is no dishwasher, but that was fine for us as we managed to get our pre-teens involved in the kitchen chores! And yes, the last part of the road up to the farm is tricky when there is oncoming traffic, but that is a small price to pay for the fantastic, secluded location in the middle of the moor where we met lots of ponies and sheep but very few people during our walks. Our springer spaniel enjoyed the freedom of the enclosed garden and never escaped... and we were very happy to have found such a special place with such friendly and helpful hosts to escape to before the next lockdown! ,

It is situated in a quiet and remote location which we loved. Saying that Peter Tavy was a good walk away, in parts by the river. Tavistock has all the amenities you could wish for and just a short drive away. The lodge was clean and tidy, adequately equipped. The pub at Peter Tavy is a must! Jeff and Ellen were perfect hosts, not at all intrusive but there if needed. Please try their free range eggs and home produced sausages, outstanding. We’ve fallen in love with Dartmoor and would definitely return. Thank you.

Everything was so relaxing, the owners could not have been more helpful but also left us to ourselves. The beds were amazingly comfortable , the stars at night , the view of the moors that looked different every day, the peace and quiet . Fresh eggs, pigs and piglet, cows and horses . We all had such a good holiday. Thank you.

  • "Absolutely immaculate cottage in a very isolated and quite location."

The cottage is worth every bump in the road. We couldn't have been more relaxed and our cocker spaniels also felt at home. The views are stunning and change with the weather. You can see the storms come in across the Moor. Worth a stay any time of year. Will be booking again for next year. Only one thing would be a dishwasher. Being on a septic tank this would also reduce water usage! This by no means takes anything away from the cottage. 5 stars any day, I'd give 10 if I could.

Warm cosy and welcoming. The ability to walk out of the cottage and straight onto Dartmoor was fantastic. And the local pubs at Peter Tavy, Mary Tavy and on the road into Tavistock were all dog friendly and served great food. Great holiday and we will be back again.

Everything you could ask for. Shame we didn’t have time to explore more but will definitely want to revisit. Left alone to do what we wanted. Did meet Geoff who was very approachable and if there were any problems at any time to contact. This was a lovely cottage/barn convertion. Out the way from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Would recommend. Great for dog owners and people who love the peace and quiet.

We had their mobile numbers etc so could contact if needed. They have a fabulous smallholding and especially loved the friendly pedigree pigs and one particular fluffy aloof chicken! Barn is superb, well designed and laid out. Large bathrooms and big soft towels.Well equipped and clean. I didn't feel I had to wash crockery etc before using as I have felt I've had to in the past (Not Sykes). Happy to return . The views are beautiful and especially at sunset. A nice and warm host on a lovely small farm. Not entirely suitable for our citydogs who were too much focust on the pigs and the loose chickens in and around the garden, but for those who love the farmlive it is an amazing place. The nearest pub is a great place for a lovely dinner or lunch and the nearest town is a beautifull city with everything you might need. Amazing countryside for long walks or trained bikers. One small thing missing, a comfortable seat in the garden, but proberbly we are the only ones who had such beautifull warm and sunny weather.

  • "The two couples who stayed at this address were welcomed to the property - flowers, fudge, fruit basket awaited us, the log fire burning brightly."

This was very well received as the journey had been fairly difficult with the amount of traffic and heavy rain all the way. One of our party, elderly, and having a stroke some years ago, collapsed during the morning in the downstairs bathroom. I ran to the property owner, and used his phone for a 999 call for an ambulance, the owner of the property was able to explain exactly how to get to the house, as it was difficult up a long rough lane. He then stayed with the patient talking trying to wake him, taking pulses and listening to breathing. He was superb staying almost 1.5 hrs until ambulance staff arrived taking over. Thankfully our friend was fine again by the afternoon, Mr and Mrs Thomas were friendly, and helpful, allowing us to take our two dogs into a field with less mud after the heavy rain. They adjusted the central heating almost immediately after asking for assistance with this. The property is very nice, beds very comfortable. Good book selection, and paperwork on local amenities. Yes we would consider a summer visit, to be in superb countryside and wonderful views, where our grandsons could help feed the resident pigs, horses and chickens. We know the area well, so for us no difficulty in driving up to the property, We also came home with home killed pork and beef which was on sale from the owners. Yes a very good property, with kindly owners where nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Carole Duckett,
