  • "We were made very welcome by the owners."

The cottage was extremely comfortable, warm (autumn) and well equipped, with careful attention given to Covid related precautions. Being able to walk onto the moor directly from the cottage was lovely. We enjoyed walks recommended by the owners on the moor and on the coast. No hesitation in recommending it.

  • "Lovely cosy cottage, super location for walks onto Harford Moor with our dog."

Nice shops in Ivybridge, good pubs nearby. There were flowers, wine, milk and eggs waiting for us from our kind hosts. Logs supplied for the woodburner which we enjoyed using. Very clean and comfortable, a very nice week and restful holiday. We can recommend staying at Butterbrook Coach House.

  • "A beautifully restored coach house, in a beautiful setting!"

A lovely warm welcome awaits any lucky guest!

    Mr SmithMay 2021

  • "This property is absolutely lovely, very clean with very hospitable and friendly owners who leave you to your own devices."

A beautiful quiet location with direct access to the moor and facilities nearby. My only slight negative is that it is more dog tolerant than dog friendly as dogs aren’t allowed upstairs or on the sofas (not aware of this at the time of booking) so it was hard on us and the dogs to begin with as they are used to cuddling up; the courtyard has no grassy area for a late night squeak (my dogs won’t go on concrete) Every kitchen item/utensil is available and well thought out and Heather left a lovely bottle of red wine, some fresh eggs and beautiful flowers for our arrival. Would definitely recommend this property - I would rate this 9.5/10

  • "An absolutely lovely cottage in a beautiful location."

The property was perfect , highly equipped and spotlessly clean . Our hosts were friendly and helpful, the wine and flowers on arrival much appreciated. Within minutes we were on Dartmoor and the walks were stunning . A super week from start to finish .

  • "We had a great time in this lovely cottage."

Great area for walking, and also not for from the beaches. The hosts made us feel very welcome with wine and fresh eggs on arrival! Would definitely recommend heading to burgh island for a day out and visiting the pilchard in for a refreshing pint! We all enjoyed it as a family and the dogs were worn out by the end. Will be returning!!

  • "We had a lovely time exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area."

The property is on the moor and we went for daily walks from their as a base. The Coach House is finished to a very high standard and we were able to relax completely in the surroundings. Our hosts were extremely friendly and we will not hesitate to return in future

The property

This peaceful cottage is situated along an impressive drive lined with beech trees and is attached to a Victorian rectory in the hamlet of Harford on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park.

The accommodation is stylish and smart, with a lovely sitting room where you can relax on leather sofas beside the wood burning stove.

The good sized kitchen with its granite worktops and dining area has glass doors to a sunny courtyard where you can enjoy leisurely barbecues.

Head upstairs and you will find the two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The outside space is lovely, with 40 acres of bluebell meadows and woodland to wander and spot all kinds of wildlife.

Beyond the grounds, you can head directly on to open moorland to explore the wilds of Dartmoor.

This is a fascinating area of the moors, with ancient stone circles and cairns and then the River Erme valley is a wonderful contrast with its watery beauty.

For shops, head to Ivybridge two miles distant, and beaches don't come much lovelier than Mothecombe which is just 10 miles away and was used for filming International Velvet, Sense and Sensibility and My Cousin Rachel.

Butterbrook Coach House is a splendid retreat for a restful break.

About the location

IVYBRIDGE

Plymouth 12 miles.

Often referred to as the ‘Gateway to South Dartmoor’, Ivybridge is set in one of the most beautiful areas of Devon and provides the perfect base from which to explore the county’s glorious coast and countryside. The town’s namesake, the Ivy Bridge, is a 13th century construction originally designed for packhorses and widened during the age of coach travel. Nowadays, it is a popular landmark on the town’s Heritage Trail, which also takes in other noteworthy historical buildings, such as a paper mill which remains Ivybridge’s major industrial employer. Some of the most architecturally pleasing sights in the town are the aqueduct, now a listed site, and the much photographed remains of a viaduct built by Brunel. This riverside town offers a great local shopping experience, with a variety of independent shops in the compact town centre making browsing a pleasure. When it’s time for a break, take your pick from the many cafés, tearooms and bakeries in the covered arcade serving delicious food and treats to help you recharge your batteries! Just on the brink of Dartmoor National Park, Ivybridge is ideally located to explore the 368 square miles of rolling hills, rugged granite outcrops and fresh, clean air. With over 450 miles of public rights of way, you’ll find enough walks to keep you busy for a year, let alone a week! If you’d like to mix it up a bit, cycling, horse-riding, climbing and kayaking opportunities abound. Nearby Wembury is the starting point for the Two Moors Way, a 201 mile coast to coast walking route which passes through Ivybridge and continues on through high moorland and deep wooded valleys, taking in some of Devon’s most unspoilt rural scenery. At 17 miles long, the Erme-Plym Trail is slightly shorter and leads in the opposite direction through some pleasant countryside, passing the pretty Hooe Lake en route. The area surrounding Ivybridge offers a fabulous variety of attractions and days out, from the stunning beaches of the South Devon coast, to the bustling city of Plymouth.
