  • "This is about my 10th visit to Grant's cottage over the past 5 years."

    Sometimes I'm there on my own, rattling around in a big 4-bedroom house, but it's beautiful. The courtyard area is not so nice and could do with a gardener/designer to make it a little bit special. I would love to sit out there when I visit but it feels messy and not very clean. The house itself though, is wonderful and lovely that my fur babies can come with me. Thank you owners!

  • "Great location, bedrooms clean, nice linen and comfy beds."

    Kitchen good but knives very blunt and annoying. Cutting butternut squash with these knives was dangerous. Smell of dog in hallway, kitchen and utility room. We’d a problem upon arrival with smell of grains/toilet/both, in top left hand ensuite. We reported it and it was dealt with efficiently and with no fuss whilst we were out walking the coast path. The dog smell and knives have already been commented upon in previous reviews but mentioning them again. All in all , a lovely house set in downtown Dartmouth and a lovely social space where we could all gather for 5 nights, with a few tweaks needed to make it perfect.

  • "We needed to be close to relatives in Dartmouth and this was just right."

    Bedrooms were large and very comfortable. Kitchen was great and we coped with the small sitting room well. There were no recycling facilities which felt strange, we just hope the council do it when they empty the blue bins. We had no pets and the kitchen smelt slightly of dog. There were no dishwasher tablets/shower gel …it would be helpful if this was made clear beforehand. Otherwise we loved the position and had a great time.

  • "Great town house in a super location just a stroll from river front and shops."

    Bedrooms and bathrooms ideal as 4 of us on a walking holiday, beds very comfy, power showers are great, kitchen modern and very spacious and all utensils for a good stay. Only negative was no downstairs cloakroom, though perhaps space and plumbing for one. We would defo like to return

  • "Lovely, very comfortable property in a great location."

    It is worth noting, due to the age of the property, that the stairs are steep and spiral with a handrail on the outside only. I suspect older or less fit people might find them a bit of a challenge.

  • "Grants is a modern, well appointed cottage right in the heart of Dartmouth with easy access to most of the local attractions."

    Top, hotel quality bedrooms with T.V. and ensuit or adjacent bathrooms. State of the art kitchen which even impressed our Chef son. After a day out we could always look forward to coming home to a warm welcome at Grants Cottage. Have already booked the same weeks next year. Thank you for a great holiday.

    We have made lasting memories as a family. The House has been the perfect base to allow us to explore and visit lots of beautiful places. The house was spotlessly clean with soft comfy beds and the kitchen was well equipped. If we were to add anything it would be a mirror to the left had first floor bedroom. Thank you again.

  • "Thanks for a lovely stay."

    Lovely modern furnishings and all necessary facilities, such a good location and decent pun nearby. Wish there was a downstairs loo but we all coped. Lovely comfy beds and decent shower in top left bedroom. Rained a lot which was annoying but nothing we didn't cope with and was expected. Love it here.

The property

Situated at the heart of Dartmouth, Devon is Grants Cottage.

This charming Grade II Listed house was previously known as Grants Courtyard and was used to stable the ponies that were used to carry the wealthy people of Dartmouth up and down 'Slippery Way' so they did not have to walk.

The property has four bedrooms and can sleep eight guests making it perfect for families and friends.

With a woodburning stove and private courtyard with bistro furniture, you'll be able to spend some quality time together.

The house is fully-equipped for a memorable stay.

It is also very dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole family and your two canine companions along on holiday with you!

Head into the property after a busy day exploring the town and enter into the sitting room which is a homely place to unwind, relax on the sofas or armchairs and make use of the Smart TV to catch up on all your favourite shows while a wood-burning stove warms the room.

You could also unwind in the snug, a quiet place at the back of the house, perfect for reading a book, this room overlooks the private, enclosed courtyard, which has bistro garden furniture.

As the evening draws to a close travel into the spacious fully-equipped kitchen/diner where the whole family can sit down and enjoy a hearty meal.

Climb the stairs to the first-floor, where a bathroom that boasts a freestanding bath with shower over awaits to wash away the day.

This floor is home to two generously-sized super king bedrooms with TVs when sleep calls, and plenty of storage to house your belongings.

Up on the second floor, the third and fourth bedroom are similarly furnished with super-king-size beds, TVs and storage, these rooms however both have convenient en-suite shower rooms.

Grants cottage is close to a variety of local amenities as it sits on one of Dartmouth’s many cobbled streets that are lined with boutique shops.

There is a stylish bar just a stone’s throw away from the house called The Sail Loft where you can indulge in evening drinks within this historical iconic building.

The town is situated on the River Dart and is home to a number of attractions including Blackpool Sands, National Trust - Coleton Fishacre, Dartmouth Castle, National Trust – Greenway and Bayard's Cove Fort.

You could also spend the day exploring the River Dart after hiring a boat from Dartmouth Boat Hire.

In addition to these attractions, the town also boasts a number of other restaurants and bars, including Rockfish and Bayards Cove Inn.

The town is also a short walk from Dartmoor National Park that is bursting with a variety of walks and trails that will keep your canine companion happy, explore this park while admiring the breath-taking views of Devon.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town.
