  • "The best, cosy cottage imaginable."

The atmosphere was warm and inviting and every room had something interesting in it. We both remarked on the pictures by artist H.Rimmer and were excited to research him online to find out who he was - a Dunster resident. All the facilities of a modern home were provided, all with a 1950's twist with the floral decor throughout. We felt very well catered for and once we'd worked out the remote thermostat were snug and warm all day. With a nod to Little Owl Cleaning everything was spick and span. The instructions for looking after the cottage were clear as was the information on the wood burner - even though we didn't get round to lighting it. Thank you so much for an idyllic holiday !

  • "Vine Cottage was delightful and cosy."

Set in a charming position. Everything I would want was provided. My daughter and I spent a very relaxing and comfortable week based there. Plenty to see and do in the village and surrounding area. I think we will definitely return again.

  • "Cottage was lovely, even the lack of parking wasn’t a problem, as we got street parking close by."

Loved Dunster and from the cottage to the centre was a nice stroll. Would definitely book again. One point tho a garden seat would have been nice.

The property

Nestled in the historic village of Dunster, within the Exmoor National Park, is this Grade II listed character property, Vine Cottage.

A welcoming and homely feel greets as you enter, with a sitting room on the left of the hallway; ideal for unwinding into the evening after a day of rambles, with two comfortable sofas arranged in front of a wood burner, along with a TV for entertainment.

Carry the conversation into the kitchen and adjoining dining room where you can keep the chef of the group company whilst they learn their way around the appliances, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and even a dishwasher, ensuring hassle-free washing up!

Head upstairs to the bedrooms, both of which enjoy views over Dunster Church and Castle and house double beds, making this an ideal choice for a couple, or a small family.

The main bedroom has a separate dressing room.

Begin each morning with a brisk shower or bath before making your way to the front lawn for a moment in the sunshine.

The village of Dunster is filled with charm as well as offering plenty of quirky gift shops and small grocery stores for picking up any essentials.

Learn about the history of the area through the old buildings, including the iconic Yarn Market, the remains of a Benedictine priory, a working watermill and Iron Age settlements.

If you fancy a night off cooking, choose from a selection of restaurants, pubs and tearooms.

The area is a haven for walkers due to the wooded hillsides and picturesque hills of Exmoor, providing glorious walks through open moorland, woodland and along the coast.

Head into Minehead, just over two miles away, where you can lounge on the golden beach, stroll along the mile-long promenade and enjoy fish and chips whilst watching the boats reel into the harbour.

Alternatively, climb aboard the South West Steam Railway and journey to the nearby port of Watchet for a delightful day trip, or travel a short distance to explore the beautiful Horner Woods National Nature Reserve or the sweeping expanse of Porlock Bay.

About the location

DUNSTER

Minehead 3 miles.

Dunster is a popular tourist village near the North Somerset coast and is a largely unspoiled spot: the centre of the town retains many old buildings which hug the winding cobbled streets. The whole village is dominated by the castle on its hill but the focal point of the High Street is the picturesque Yarn Market, a covered area built in 1609 particularly to accommodate the wool traders and other cloth merchants. Inside Dunster castle there are fine plasterwork ceilings and the extensive terraced and landscaped gardens contain many rare shrubs and trees, and offer marvelous views out to sea, and towards the Quantocks. For those who enjoy exploring the countryside, Dunster is within the Exmoor National Park and there are plenty of footpaths leading onto the surrounding hills of Grabbist and walks into Dunster’s Deer Park at the foot of the castle. Dunster is well served with traditional inns, individual shops and interesting places to explore including the working 18th century watermill. West Somerset’s premier resort of Minehead is less than three miles away and has golden sandy beaches, seaside attractions for the visitor, and plenty of cafes, shops and bistros.
