  • "A lovely spacious old property modernised to a nice standard and very comfortable only a short drive or walk to the harbour."

    It is very hilly in this area and the property is accessed via a driveway which is also quite hilly for the less mobile to be aware. The owners Kim and David live nearby are very friendly and helpful and as I travelled with my elderly parents who both have limited mobility they very kindly let us use one of their parking spots at the top of the driveway. There is a secure back garden for sitting in and letting the dogs out albeit it is completely shaded due to neighbouring trees which means unfortunately there is nowhere outside to sit and enjoy the sunshine. The property is clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay there, the only downsides were the outside space which I realise you can’t do much about unless you could incorporate a small area to the front with a small table and chairs. The double bedroom shower could do with an upgrade as it isn’t very powerful and is very slow. The tv in the lounge is also quite old and is a quick relatively cheap fix to something like a 4k tv with more channels as we didn’t really go out at night but the tv didn’t really have a lot of channels and you couldn’t access things like Netflix etc. Other than that it has all the appliances you might need.

    Thanks for visiting us - we enjoyed meeting you and your parents. I think the idea of putting some seating at the front is a really good one, so we shall put in a bench, just outside the kitchen so it will be perfect for morning coffee before it gets too hot.   • "The owner was so kind and helpful lending us their dvd player."

    The double bed was very comfortable. However - the mould in both shower cubicles needs addressing - cobwebs behind blinds, under sofa and on most skirting boards - nut kernels under seat cushions on sofa - a general clean of the property would not go a miss I have photos to share with you.

Your comments have been very helpful and we have taken action by appointing a new Management company and housekeepers who have assured us that the high standards we expect will be maintained.   • "We enjoyed our stay."

    The doggie biscuits and picnic hamper were a lovely gesture.The house was very clean and tidy. We found the lounge seating a bit uncomfortable, We were disappointed with the garden, it wasn’t suitable to sit out in. The showers were very difficult to adjust to a suitable temperature.

  • "The property is not easy to reach on foot as the gradients are steep to the house and takes a good 30 minutes from the centre of Torquay,unfortunately whilst we were there a lot of roadwork’s were going on, so driving was awkward because of diversions."

    The sofa and chair need replacing the bathroom on suite in (Japan sea ) is in need of a total revamp plus the towel rail would not function and the step between the toilet and shower was narrow, and a little dangerous for the elderly clients.Also a strange heating system, which I think was controlled by the owners .

  • "The White House was well equipped, clean and tidy and the welcome basket was lovely to receive."

    It was lovely and quiet being 10 minutes from Torquay Harbour/shops. The walk down and up was not as steep as anticipated and not a problem for us and found numerous ways of getting down to Torquay and back. It was good having a parking space too. We didn't use the car for 5 days as it was easy to get around walking or by local bus..

  • "A lovely holiday home."

    Well equipped kitchen. Parking is tight but still usable. Lounge great. Cosy beds. Bedrooms are a little old but functional. TVs in the bedroom are way to high up and unusable. Walk down is steep but a good exercise. It could do with being clearer how the heating works. Overall a nice stay. Loved the hamper in the kitchen and the milk in the fridge. Nice touches.

  • "A very comfortable, well equipped and peaceful property."

    The owners were happy to reconfigure the beds so that we had two spacious en suite double bedrooms. It is a short but steep walk to the harbour, which is well worth the effort as there are lots of excellent cafes and bars. We could not fault The White House and would thoroughly recommend it.

  • "The cottage was lovely & well presented when we arrived."

    Great location if not a little hilly but close to the harbour which was excellent. Nice little touches for our dog. A few board games we made use of on our first night as it was very wet out. However, description of cottage doesn’t mention shared outdoor space. This is access for an apartment. Could do with knowing this before booking. Outdoor space hasn’t been used by anyone for a long time! Was quite hot when we were there would have been nice to sit out but covered by trees and cobwebs. No blinds at that rear door so people passing through can see in! Make sure you’re dressed! Only one pan to cook up a ‘culinary delight’ as advertised. Not many utensils but we weren’t that bothered as we ate out every night. The sofa could do with being replaced. Very flat and old and very uncomfortable. No mention of the parking being at the bottom of a dark driveway. Only one security light stayed on for seconds. Not enough to get up the hill to the house. The photo in the advert shows parking bays at the front door. These seem to be for the owners only. Misleading. We had an issue with neighbours one night which was very scary, shouting in the street then in the premises. Torquay itself, we had a great week away.

    Thank you for the helpful feedback - I am sorry that you were disappointed in the outside space. The trees (overhanging from our neighbour's property) can be gloomy in bad weather, but a blessing when you need the shade! It is a small courtyard but it is cleaned every Friday, and a number of guests have appreciated having their own barbecue. We will amend the write up to make clear that the front of the house is for loading/unloading only, parking is on the lower drive. The kitchen is full equipped with saucepans, frying pans, baking trays etc. If any guest has trouble finding the saucepans or any other equipment -please call the phone numbers we leave in the property and we will point you to the right cupboard. We will ensure all other issues reported are assessed on the changeover.   • "Extremely well equipped property."
