  • "The only things that had been made ready for our arrival were."

Clean towels, bedding and bins changed. The floors, windows, bathroom & kitchen were filthy. Tumbleweeds of hair on the carpets. Microwave splattered with food. Out of date food in kitchen cupboard. Washing machine black inside drawer & drum. Kettle full of lime scale. Several "tide marks" around the inside of the bath. Black gunk in and under the shower screen rubber strip & in the basin overflow. Filthy toothbrush holder. Photographs were sent to your company. After we had been ignored for days. To be told that lime scale doesn't happen in Devon & to be offered a new kettle was offensive. Completely unacceptable to be offered £50 off a next holiday if we booked again with your company when we had to deal with this.

Thankyou for lovely stay. Only edition to the flat would of been a few door stops.

Great views from the balcony for our morning coffee/evening GnT ! Clean and inviting on arrival, lots of information on the local area (and an ordinance survey map which we always love as walkers!) Kitchen facilities were great too - pans that were actually non- stick and sharp cutting knives … Comfy beds too A great property to be recommended. Thanks for a lovely break.

  • "Firstly the listing was very inaccurate."

The reference to “Blue Bay Apartments” should be removed as the building did not display this and this name only appeared on the dustbin! Spent 15+ mins looking for the place. The listed DVD/CD/radio were non existent. We were denied access to the promised terrace and BBQ but the lower garden was available. The hob needs upgrading and the fridge badly needs to be replaced as it is falling apart. The carpet in the living area was heavily stained and a mat placed inside the balcony door had a large tear. I caught my foot in this and was catapulted across the room. The whole apartment needs decluttering. As in all old buildings soundproofing is non existent. On a positive note the beds were very comfortable and clean, the balcony a real bonus and the location excellent. I do not recommend this apartment.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Your points are noted on the decluttering/fridge/hob will be checked on the next inspection. The terrace for Grand View is located between the parking space and the door to the apartment and cartches the morning and evening sun (the one in front of the ground floor apartment is for Quay Sands apartment only) and the bbq is in the storage by the door. There is a sign for Grand View on the parking space and the apartment. The TV has radio/cd playing capacity but this could be made clearer. The sitting room carpet was replaced the week after your visit. Property Owner

  • "Grand View is a very well equipped apartment in a super location."

The views from the lounge are exceptional - especially down to the sea from the balcony. Good kitchen, comfortable beds and excellent shower with plenty of hot water. A grab rail in the bath might be a useful addition. The bath room door latch needs some attention as the only way to keep the door closed was to use the small bolt - a very minor niggle tbh. We had a fabulous week - the easy access to the SW Coastal path is a real bonus. We will certainly be booking Grand View again.

Thank you for the feedback Colin. Point noted on the bathroom door - we will take a look at that. The SW Coastal path is stunning in either direction and one we recommend. We look forward to your return! Property Owner

  • "The apartment was super clean and very comfortable."

It was well equipped and the shower was nice and powerful. The catch on the twin bedroom door was a bit weak and the door rattled with the windows open. That is the only thing that I noticed, it did not spoil the stay and we had a fabulous time in Hope Cove. Thank you

  • "We reported on our first day the badly stained carpet in the living area and the fact that we could only open 2 of the fanlights and none of the other windows apart from the sliding patio doors on the balcony."

We find it highly unlikely that these matters have not been reported before. We have said to others who have asked about our holiday that the apartment was "OK". It was rather tired looking apart from the settee and chair in the living area. The kitchen was well equipped. It would have been difficult to store anything in the wardrobes as they were full of cleaning items and the water tank/heater. Where we would have put cases if there had been 4 of us I don't know.

Many thanks for your feedback, although we were concerned to read that the property was not satisfactorily presented prior to your arrival. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are grateful for the comment in respect of the overall appearance of the property and have passed on your feedback to the owners who are looking to address the matters you have raised. We do hope that you had an enjoyable holiday in spite of the issues raised and look forward to welcoming you back to Hope Cove in the not too distant future. Property Owner

Comfy beds. Everything you needed. Only couple of bad parts Twin room window rattled all might when windy. Vacuum bag needs replacing as it smells. No good for anyone with mobility problems as steep stairs from car park. Also steep to access to cove.

  • "As warned by other hirers the double bed was most uncomfortable as was the sofa."

Needs an update. Too much stuff in the cupboards for four people, packed food left behind and the wardrobes difficult to use due to untidy storage of cleaning equipment and materials. Shaving light and bathroom extractor not working. Location and view from balcony superb.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are very disappointed to hear that you had a few issues upon your arrival at Grand View, we were unaware of any of these during your stay otherwise these could have been rectified by our Maintenance team. I can confirm the owner has a new sofa and mattresses on order which will be arriving in time for this season and the problems with the bathroom have been fixed. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We were generally pleased with the accommodation."

It suited us for a short stay. The flat was very clean, tidy and the kitchen was well equipped. Plenty of utensils and crockery. Bedding and towels were nice but the double bed was uncomfortable. The sofa is probably nearing the end of its life too. Upon arrival we found the fridge had been switched off and the freezer section had defrosted which then had to be cleaned out. We found the kitchen heater and bathroom mirror light do not work. Also the bathroom extractor comes on but does not open to allow steam out.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Grand View. We can only apologise that you arrived to the fridge being off, we have made the cleaner aware who will make sure this does not happen again. Also, thank you for making us aware of the other matters, we can now look in to getting these fixed. We hope we can welcome you back to Hope Cove again soon. Property Owner

Inside was fine . The living area is so bright , with the patio doors going out to the balcony , fantastic views over Hope Cove . The only negative was the settee definitely needs replacing , so lumpy & uncomfortable . Would happily return to Grand View .

Many thanks for your review of Grand View in Hope Cove, we are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday and the views! I can confirm that the owner has replaced the sofa and this will be arriving in time for this season. We do hope that we are able to welcome you back to the area very soon. Property Owner

  • "Having stayed in this particular property for 4 consecutive years this was our worst experience."

We expected the property to be very clean, given Covid and the extra time needed for arrival. The property had been cleaned superficially but when using the kitchen equipment the cupboards, drawers and contents were dirty which is unacceptable.. The furniture and decoration of the property are grubby and tired and need to be updated given the level of weekly rental. The light above the sink did not work along with some other items. Consequently we will not be staying at that property again but will return to Hope Cove next year and rent a more acceptable property.

We and the Owner were most concerned to read that you were unhappy with the presentation of Grand View on arrival. We, at the local office are always on hand to rectify any issues, and it is disappointing that you didn't contact us during your stay as we most certainly would have been able to arrange our housekeeping and maintenance team to address the points you have made. Once again we do apologise that the property was not presented satisfactorily on arrival, but hope that despite this you had another enjoyable week in Hope Cove. Property Owner

  • "This is our 8th year of staying in Grand View and we are very happy with it."

If we could say one thing that would be a big improvement would be the replacement of the heavy glass table and heavy steel chairs. They are cumbersome and take up too much room. Something more simple and a smaller table would make a big difference. Otherwise we love everything about the property and will be booking it again.

  • "Well provided for."

Economy7 heating means hot morning, closed windows for a reasonable temperature evenings. Small living space means would be OK for a couple to stay indoors when weather is bad, but could be claustrophobic for bigger family. Lots of facilities, washing machine, dishwasher, iron, beach toys, dvds, etc. Great!

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
