Heathmoor

Overall we had a very nice stay.

The property has high quality comforts, such as a very comfy and well looked after sofa in lounge, very comfy beds and pillows, high-quality linen, modern bathrooms and kitchen facilities. The areas that letter down for us, included the access to the property; which although it stated‘ resembles a country lane’ on the property listing with a photo, I believe this doesn’t reflect the initial severity of the lane, making it more suitable for a SUV or vehicle that is larger than a small / small family car such as ours. It was extremely difficult terrain, rather steep and some extremely large pot holes. When we arrived, we arrived much later than expected which was totally out of our control. We had aimed to get there for 6pm, but due to accidents on the M5 we arrived at 9.15pm and the property was extremely challenging to find in the dark, as there was no clear signage at the property, or even a name on the gate at all. So we had to use the torches on our phone, in the dark to check if the property looked like the photo of the front of the house on our phones. This was very scary in the depth of darkness in a wooded area with a newborn baby. Upon our arrival the outdoor lights didn’t work, which I was extremely upset about, as I when I reached out to the owner, they said the lights didn’t work and that a torch was provided instead. This is not safe for myself with a newborn baby, and put us at risk; if I was advised of such an issue (which they were aware of at the point of us making the booking) I should have been informed ahead of our arrival. I would not have booked this property due to how rural and dark the area is with a newborn baby, if I had been informed. The property is beautiful and the period features have been well preserved, however the overall house is lacking attention to detail. There are lots of plaster marks, mismatched paint patch ups, extremely noisy doors which isn’t good with a newborn (a bit of WD40 would solve), the door latches are not well matched, and are rather difficult to lock, there was a mirror missing in the twin bedroom, and one of the blinds were broken in the lounge. For the high price tag, I would have expected a little more attention to detail. I cannot fault the access to Dartmoor with the dog, who loved her stay in the impressive kitchen, and met lots of dogs and ponies out on the hills. Some spectacular views and rural scenery - just some further property management details to iron out to make perfect for future guests.

The property was amazing, a mixture of old charm and modern facilities, the stairs were the only worry before we got there and although they are steep they weren't a problem.

The track up to the property is very uneven but as long as you don't go too fast then there is no problem. Just outside the front gate is easy access to walls up on the moor and we often had sheep roaming outside which the kids loved. The house itself has its own coffee machine which grinds beans and makes a lovely cup. All in all we couldn't really fault it.

Very happy with the cottage, clean and tidy great size for our family get together.

. Everything we needed was there except for a decent clothes wardrobe in two of the bedrooms, otherwise it was a five star. With the hot weather a fan would have been nice, but otherwise a brilliant place to stay with great views and great walks on the doorstep. Would book again

Heathmoor is a beautiful house, one of the best we have stayed at, from the quality of the furnishings to the beautiful views.

We had three generations staying in the house and there was plenty of space for everyone. The beds were really comfortable and the showers were great. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. It was lovely to be able to walk to the moor from the house and see the wild ponies. The lane is nowhere near as bad as some reviews have said, just need to take your time driving up it. We would definitely recommend Heathmoor.

Accommodation is spacious and the Sykes publicity is mostly accurate, with notable exceptions.

In the bedroom without an en-suite, there is minimal furniture, poor hanging space and tiny fixed bedside shelves. All bedrooms have glaring ceiling lighting and no reading lamps. The steps to the front door are hazardous because of a large overhanging hydrangea. The main concern is the access track to the property, which is covered in large stones, potholed and not suitable for ordinary cars.The brochure information needs to be more specific (honest) about this.

A beautiful home with all mod cons.

The gravel drive upto it could do with refilling and levelling, but other than that, an excellent relaxing week with the house nestled on Dartmoor.

A beautiful property, spotlessly clean, fantastic views, very spacious bedrooms, incredibly comfy beds and settees and an absolute joy to stay in, good quality fittings and fixtures and pretty much everything thought of.

The board games came in very handy in an evening and we're an added bonus. The only negative is maybe a lock is needed on the family bathroom door and we couldn't find a clothes airer but hardly worth mentioning. The lane to the property is very bumpy and uneven but we took our time and had no problems. We had 3 cars and had very wet weather while there, I parked in front of the green garage and had no issues getting on and off. Some of the parking in front of the gates is uneven so care is needed. Literally outside the front door is the moorland with sheep and ponies and we enjoyed a few walks from there, likewise the Drakes Trail was a 2 minute walk from the property which was also enjoyable. Tavistock is 10 minutes drive away and Plymouth 20 minutes drive away. We would all happily stay here again.

Comfortable and well equipped! Perfectly located for access to the moors as well as the coast.

Beautiful home, spotlessly clean in ideal location in the countryside, as the views out are amazing.

Every attention to detail has been made here, with the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in, with very high quality furnishings throughout, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Owner leaving scones and clotted cream was a very nice touch!

Unfortunately, despite Heathmoor being a well-presented, modern and clean property I cannot recommend this accommodation to anyone who has a car, children or plans on taking a glass of water to bed.

There is no mention of the single-track, seemingly unadopted road leading up to the property in Sykes' listing of Heathmoor. The road is made entirely of rubble, rocks and potholes. Unless you have a tractor, I recommend you approach the property by foot only. I noticed all of the vehicles in the neighbouring properties had extra depth on the tread of their tyres to accommodate for the state of the road - this is entirely essential. The conditions of the road leading up to Heathmoor, resulted in one of our tyres bursting whilst driving on nearby A-road. All four of our alloys were damaged by the rubble and all tyres had to be replaced during our stay, as jagged stones embedded into the rubber. During the period of time whilst our car was at Halfords (Plymouth), I called Rachael, the owner, to inform her that we may require a later check-out due to not having a vehicle to load our possessions. Rachael claimed that there was nothing wrong with the road and disputed the fact that the neighbours have modified their tyres to accommodate for the road conditions. We never heard from her again.

Overall excellent, a few suggestions: It’s obviously all very new which is ok, but the garden really needs some plants.

Inside it needs some softer lighting like lamps, as it’s a bit too bright and intense with so many sport lights. Biggest issue is the fence obscure the beautiful view!! Last up, the coffee machine sounds like a steam train! Overall very good though, but feedback is always good
