  • "Couldn’t fault the cottage at all first class location"

  • "Cobb Cottage was a lovely little bolt-hole from which to explore the Devon/Dartmoor area."

    We initially struggled to find the cottage (I hadn't received specific directions via Sykes Cottages, not the first time) but used the emergency contact numbers to resolve this; Chris was very helpful. I later moved the pin for the cottage on Google to reflect the correct location and make it easier to find. The cottage was everything the listing said it would be and was very clean and pleasant. A personal welcome message had been left for us by Penny and they'd left us some eggs and strawberries in the fridge. We used the beds we found most comfortable, which on this occasion were the twin beds. We came and went as we needed, travelling all over the county to visit cool places. There is plenty to see and do, the cottage is very well placed geographically. We would definitely come back in the future if we return to this area.

  • "Lovely cottage!"

    Cob Cottage had all the comfort we were looking for. As expected with an old building, the ceiling was a bit lower in places, and the ensuite a bit snug - but we loved the quirkiness of it. The beds were very comfortable and the enclosed garden was really good for the dog as well. All in all a lovely holiday home!

    Super clean and comfortable, plenty of parking & outside sitting for morning breakfasts. Particularly liked being so close to the moor. The highlight of our trip.

  • "We struggled to find the cottage despite instructions as there was no signage on entrance."

    The garden is rather unloved but the accommodation was clean and comfortable. The kitchen is compact but functional. The fridge was tiny and awkward to use, putting it on counter top at eye level would have helped. Very minor niggles which didn’t detract from a very pleasant stay.

    Thank you. We agreed with your comments on the garden. It was suffering from the hosepipe ban and drought. That has been rectified. The fridge will be upgraded in the near future. We will need to move a socket to put it on the worktop but it is a good idea.   • "A clean welcome."

    I was disappointed when we arrived. Though we have had a lovely welcome and fresh strawberries waiting for us. The cottage didn't smell very nice. The old white furniture mix didn't look nice. Kitchen was well equipped and cleaned to a good standard. The paintwork looked run down and somehow felt rushed to get finished for the season. Garden was untidy. Needs to be much tidier and better seating area to enjoy what could be a pretty garden... We left early on the morning of departure. I didn't relax over the weekend which I usually do at other places. The cottage has pertentional. But interior needs more work.

    Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed Cob Cottage did not meet your expectation. Especially as we continue to receive very positive reviews from other guests. Nonetheless we take comment seriously so held a review today to check things. We agree the garden has become untidy in the drought. It has been worked on today and looks good so far as the drought and hosepipe ban allows. It will improve with the forecast rain. We do upgrade things as finance allows. Presently the focus is a new front door and 2 new windows. These are on order but take time for delivery being custom built with quality hard wood to meet the conservation standard of the Grade 2 listing. The interior is lime plaster with breathable paint to protect the thick cob walls. This provides a softer less durable finish than hard cement plaster. But it is cleaned regularly and touched up only when there are gaps in the letting programme as the preparation is quite pungent. The smell you mention is however a mystery as we could not detect anything. We deep clean and spray between lettings especially when there have been pets. We aim to provide a clean, homely, conservation cottage with strong environmental credentials and appropriate furnishings for a holiday let. It is a living project of enjoyment to maintain and constantly improve this lovely cottage. If there is complaint please contact Helpful Holidays immediately so things can be responded to at the time. We want all guests to enjoy their stay with us.   • "The hosts were gracious, friendly, and welcoming."

    Moments after we arrived at the cottage, they arrived to greet us, bringing delicious strawberries. The cottage itself is beautiful. Two ornamental birds sit atop a thatched roof. The house was spacious, the kitchen well equipped, and the beds were quite comfortable. The area is quiet, surrounded only by high greenery and dotted with other cottages. There is a co-op conveniently located, within reasonable walking distance. The location is ideal for those who wish to explore the moors. The hosts are happy to advise on things to do and see. The check-in instructions and house information were clear and easy. We would highly recommend this spot and look forward to visiting again.

  • "Lovely little cottage."

    Perfect for what we needed. Unfortunately we couldn’t use the en suite shower as we were told it was potentially leaking. Struggled to get the front door lock to catch but the brother in law who lives next door was on hand for any issues. Overall a lovely stay.

    Thank you for your helpful feedback. The shower tray leak has now been addressed, thank you for not using the upstairs ensuite shower during your stay. We are waiting for costs to replace the front door, which keeps swelling and contracting in the extreme weather. It has to be custom built because of the non-standard dimensions of a very old cottage. It is top of our list for replacement. Our only slight concern in your feedback is a slight drop in reported cleanliness. We have carried out a close review as we take cleanliness very seriously. We did find some flaking paint in one corner of the lounge and hope this is what you are referring to. Please let us know if there is something else you have noticed that needs to be addressed. Most importantly we are very pleased you had a lovely stay, this is what Cob Cottage, its garden, cob walls and thatch building, and fabulous, easy accessible location by Dartmoor and the South Hams of Devon is what we and our house team aspire to provide.   • "We hoped to find a place to stay that was tranquil, with some outdoor space and was clean & comfortable."

    Cob Cottage far exceeded all expectations. The beds were extremely comfortable, the facilities spotless, the setting was idyllic yet had the bonus of being within a short pleasant walk to local amenities including Trago mills with fruit&veg stalls that are open every day, large well stocked co op & is close to the cheapest petrol station in Devon! My children were particularly enamoured with the TV, the views and space to play football outside. Additionally, our neighbour (John) was particularly kind and helpful which made the holiday have the icing on the cake for us. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for a wonderfully blissful stay in your beautiful cottage.

  • "We loved our stay in Cob Cottage, beautifully refurbished, very comfortable accommodation."

    Well postioned for Dartmoor National Park.Enjoyed live music at The Ship pub just a 10minute walk away, good beer & wine, although food was typical pub grub of the 80s, ok if you like fried food, not a vegetable in sight! Pub locals were a really friendly bunch. Favourite place,Totnes, go on market day, very lively with lots of independent shops. Would definitely recommend Cob Cottage for relaxing stay.

  • "It’s a lovely cottage with lots of character."

    It’s clean, very comfortable, well equipped and has a beautiful garden which our dog loved. It’s worth knowing that the fridge is a bit small and you can only get a couple of days of food in there. We found the double bedroom a bit cramped and doesn’t have any storage for clothes etc. We used the twin bedroom instead which has plenty of space and comfy beds.

    Thank you for your helpful feedback. We have ordered a new double bed with drawers in it to improve comfort and storage in the double room. The en suite shower toilet does make it snug.   • "A fantastic property!"

    It was perfect for 2 people, might be a bit of a squash for 4 as we used the 2nd bedroom as a storage area for clothes. We found the double bed uncomfortable but the twin beds were great. Everything else was fantastic- beautifully presented, tastefully modernised and extremely clean. Great location too. Would we return- yes!

  • "This is a delightful very old but recently completely renovated cottage, it is well appointed and very well maintained in a lovely village location with fantastic views from the patioed front across the valley."

    We had a wonderful holiday and excellent communication with the owners. We were lucky with the weather (early March) and used the cottage as base to make day trips to Make, SouthWest in Bovey Tracy, Paignton, Exeter, Teignmouth, Plymouth, Ullacombe Farm (Emily Powell art studio) Totnes and Taunton. The Star pub nearby provides excellent meals. Would love to revisit.

Cob Cottage, a beautiful thatched, Grade II listed cob dwelling, thought to be over 400 years old, is set amidst the rolling Devonshire countryside, in Liverton near Bovey Tracey: the gateway to Dartmoor.

Surrounded by breathtaking rural views, this charming cottage has been lovingly restored to retain its original features and is the perfect dog-friendly getaway for those who are looking to reconnect with nature.

The cottage is well-positioned near the National Park but also within 30 mins of the coast.

There is ample parking for two cars on arrival: walk through the wild planted eco garden to reach your private patio, a haven for alfresco dining.

Step inside and be wowed by the exposed stonework and cob walls throughout the home, starting in the welcoming living/dining room, where you can relax after a day of adventure and dine as a four.

The kitchen is well-equipped with all the essentials for a self-catered stay, where you can whip up delicious meals, before gathering over a bottle of wine, either indoors or out.

As day turns to night, head upstairs and select between a spacious double bedroom with its own en-suite shower room, and a lovely twin, serviced by a ground-floor bathroom; a handy washing machine is also available in the bathroom.

When it comes to exploring the local area, Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey are just a short drive away and are great place to pick up some local produce.

Locally, you’ll find a handy village store and The Carpenters Arms in Ilsington.

Venture further into Dartmoor and visit Widecombe-in-the-Moor: a pretty thatched hamlet, with a 14th century church approached via winding country lanes: enjoy lunch or afternoon tea at the Café on the Green or sample the local ale at the famous Rugglestone Inn. Unspoiled walking and cycling paths can be found nearby on Dartmoor's southeast slopes, which lead to Teignmouth's shore: a harbour town with a Victorian pier, a diving school, and a beautiful sandy beach.

Consider stopping for a picnic at Haytor Rocks, a granite tor with breathtaking views of Dartmoor and the South Devon Coast.

While away an afternoon browsing the antique shops and galleries of Ashburton. And a visit to Totnes is a must, featuring a variety of independent shops, cafes, pubs, and riverside restaurants. Stop off at The Maltsters or the Watermans Arms both located along the River Dart in Tuckenhay.

Visit Totnes Castle, Leechwell Garden, or board the South Devon Railway for scenic views of the county.

A little further afield, the beautiful harbour town of Dartmouth makes for a memorable day out with award-winning restaurants, cafes and shops: set beside the River Dart, filled with yachts and boats and boasting stunning views across to Kingswear. Treat the kids to a day at Woodlands Family Theme Park or visit Agatha Christie’s Greenway.

Nestled in the valley of the River Bovey is this stunning little town known as "The Gateway to the Moor". Bovey Tracey got its name from the meandering river that flows through it, with 'Tracey' representing the family that were the lords of the manor after the Norman Conquest. It has a great history with heavy involvement in the English Civil War which resulted in the name of the town's pub "The Cromwell Arms" which serves real ale and good food. The history of the town can be discovered in the Heritage Centre, with the Dartmoor National Park Authority also nearby. Bovey Tracey offers a selection of shops and cafés along with the stunning Mill Marsh Park and the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery which offers guided tours. The town comes just outside of the Dartmoor National Park which provides seemingly endless walking and cycling paths along with incredible scenery. The market town of Newton Abbot sits nearby, offering a fantastic day out with charming buildings and a good range of amenities. The beautiful city of Exeter is also within driving distance, and if a day at the seaside is what you're after then take a trip to Teignmouth.
