  • "What a fantastic place!"

Beautiful surroundings and a lovely house which was clean, luxurious and very well looked after. Everything had been thought of and we needed nothing. There was an excellent guest folder which answered any questions we had and the kids absolutely loved their bedroom (or penthouse suite as we called it)!

  • "What an absolute treat to stay in not only a stunning property, but also in a stunning position."

Going to save up so we can return when the wisteria is in full bloom. Had a fantastic week. Thank you so much for sharing X

  • "We really enjoyed our holiday in this property."

The house is beautifully and luxuriously furnished. The kitchen has everything for even the most serious cook. Plenty of comfortable sofas to sink in and enjoy the wonderful views to Newton Creek and the Yealm. The position of the house is exquisite with views from all the rooms and a wonderful veranda. Only, very minor thing, to be improved is the size and quality of bath towels provided which seem to be at odds with the luxurious comfort of everything else in that house!

Beautiful view, amazing place. Would love to return.

  • "I little too many stuffed animals for this veggie, RSPCA/RSPB supporting animal lover."

However, a lovely setting and all mod cons. I too much furniture and side tables.

  • "The house and location are amazing."

Even more amazing than the photos. Exceptional comfort and luxury. Possibly the best place we've ever stayed. We loved every minute.

  • "Is a comfortable, luxurious and beautiful holiday home."

The views of Newton Creek and the River Yealm are outstanding. The house was spotlessly clean and the welcome hamper, including scones and Devon clotted cream, was a lovely touch. Elphinstone is situated in a peaceful area and although we weren't blessed with the best weather the views from inside were spectacular and we managed to sit out on the terrace on some days. We also enjoyed some walks from the property into the surrounding countryside and we'd highly recommend the Ship Inn in Moss Mayo - fantastic food and customer service. A great holiday and we are planning a return!

We would like to visit this property again next year to further explore the surrounding area.

This fantastic property with its panormaic views, beautiful interior and high quality fixtures and fittings, provides elegant accommodation for a family or group of friends wanting a luxurious break close to the South Devon Coast.

Elphinstone is set over four floors, with the living accomodation on the ground floor and the bedrooms on the upper three.

The entrance to the property opens onto the second floor landing.

Up a further flight of stairs is the first of the four bedrooms; a twin room with juliette balcony overlooking the river below and en suite bathroom.

The bedroom and bathroom are both decorated in a quaint nautical theme, reflecting the property's approximation to the sea.

On the second floor there is a spacious double bedroom featuring a king size bed, en suite shower room and french doors leading out onto a private balcony, finished with a tasteful neutral pallete.

The first floor plays host to the final two bedrooms; the master and a second double room with king-size bed.

The master bedroom is the epitome of style and sophistication, boasting a super king-size bed, a furnished balcony and an en suite bathroom.

The double room offers a king-size bed, river views and an en suite shower room.

Down a further flight of steps is the ground floor with the staircase leading into the spacious sitting room.

In the centre of this exquisite room lies comfortable sofas arranged around a feature fireplace with gas fire, a cosy spot for relaxing with a good book.

To one side of the room is a snug area situated on an elevated platform with two further sofas and a TV.

The piece de resistance of the room however, would be the tri-fold doors that open out onto a decked area with panoramic views of the River Yealm.

The kitchen/diner is in the next room and also benefits from tri-fold doors opening out onto a seperate wisteria-clad verandah.

The dining area has a large dining table, perfect for a special occasion or family dinner, with the fully appointed kitchen offering an ideal place to cook up a delicious meal together.

On this floor there is also a handy cloakroom area for hiding away outdoor gear, a WC and a utility room with washing facilities.

Outside the decking and vernadah make beautiful spots to relax in the sun watching the numerous crafts sail past as you enjoy your morning coffee or a crisp glass of wine in the evening.

A short walk from the property is the centre of Newton Ferrers or across the river is the pretty village of Noss Mayo.

The bustling port of Plymouth is only a short drive away with the pretty Plymouth Hoe, The Barbican and many heritage attractions. Elphinstone is an idyllic cottage situated in a prime location on the South Devon Coast and would be a perfect getaway for a family or group of friends.

About the location

Plymouth 8 miles.

A tranquil, picturesque village in the South Hams area of Devon, on a bend of the River Yealm leading up from the South Devon coast (1 mile). The perfect haven for sailors, for those who love messing about near water and for those who appreciate stunning and civilised countryside. There is a local butcher, chemist, post office and grocer in Newton Ferrers and an organic farm shop just two miles away. The village pub, with fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek, serves good food and drink. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 8 miles away while beautiful Totnes with its 'alternative' view on life is a must. If the beach rather than boats is what you seek, you won't do better than the beautiful sands at Mothecombe and Bigbury just a few miles down the road. Both are accessible by road or boat from Newton Ferrers. There are a number of excellent golf courses nearby.
