The Porthole

Best holiday accommodation we've ever stayed in.

Everything was a very high standard, beautiful views,ideal position, very comfortable. The only problem we had was reading dials on cooker, then trying to understand oven instructions. Will definitely stay here again and recommend to others. We have also always been very satisfied with Sykes company on breaks we have previously booked with them.

The property was perfect.

The location was excellent. The rooms were beautifully decorated. The kitchen was very well equipped.

Had a great week in The Porthole, the house is spacious, the kitchen is well equipped and the first floor bedrooms/bathrooms are modern and clean.

Without doubt the selling point is the wonderful view over the estuary. We spent hours watching the tide and boats come and go. The best local pub by far is the ship which you can walk to at low tide. I can also recommend Bens Farm shop which has excellent food & wine. I also think it is worth mentioning the steps from road down to the house are very steep so are the internal stairs.

We loved Portholes very much.

The house was so beautifully presented and the views were second to none. If I had to be critical at all, I would suggest that the neighbours needed to be a bit more sympathetic to people unfamiliar with the road. We arrived late, on the 29th of May after a nine hour journey. We parked with the rear of our car slightly in front of the garage entrance of the house next door, moving it early the next morning. The neighbours had written on our dusty windscreens, front and back “WTF”! Could have ruined our very special break, following my husband’s recent health scare and, our first morning in Newton Ferrers was, in fact, his birthday! Ah well, ultimately we didn’t let them ruin our great stay at this cottage. NB. Garden furniture was also rickety and the oven was temperamental.

Exceptional Booking again

Fantastic property in the heart of Newton Ferrers with great views over the Estuary.

Property was very well maintained and had everything we needed. Plenty of walks from the house and several pubs to enjoy.

A beautiful property in a fantastic location.

Lovely patio and veranda with views over the estuary and really nicely decorated throughout. Very clean and beds were really comfy. Lovely spacious sofa and kitchen appliances worked well. Showers were good too. The internal stairs are quite narrow so we did have to be careful coming down them but there is a hand hold half way which really helps. The bunk bed room is really lovely and our daughter enjoyed staying in there very much. There was some mould in the external porch at the back of the house and in the bedroom on the right on the external walls which could do with some attention. The kitchen could do with some ovenware as there were no casserole dishes, oven dishes or oven gloves so cooking options were limited. Wifi signal was very good and the views from the bedrooms were just stunning. Lovely to sit in the window and look at the views. We will be back.

Nice property and a pleasurable stay.

There were some niggling housekeeping issues which tainted the stay. Parking didn't turn out to be an issue but I suspect in the height of Summer it would prove challenging.

The Porthole is a gem!

Extremely comfortable, welcoming, with everything one needs. From the tasteful décor and peaceful location, to the most amazing view of the river Yealm, one can totally relax in this beautiful part of Devon. The local pub is close by, as is the corner mini market, with everything one needs. Friendly locals, fun quiz evenings and good food in both Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. We will definitely return.
