  • "Our third stay at Timbers and we've already booked for next year."

A lovely family home in a superb location.

  • "What a wonderful place, the best view we’ve ever had on a holiday."

So much going on in the river, could just sit out on the terrace all day watching local life. House very traditional and cosy, which we loved, and a great jetty to paddleboard from. One small gripe that there is only one shower, which was sometimes hard to manage with 8 people, although there were 3 bathrooms in total (2 with a bath). Will definitely be coming back again very soon!

  • "We had the most wonderful time at Timbers, it was like staying in a family home!"

There was plenty of cooking equipment, lovely and plentiful crockery and kitchen utensils. I think that there could have been an upright fridge freezer in the utility room instead of a chest freezer. Also, the sitting room was a bit chilly at night and we couldn’t work out how to put the gas fire on or turn the thermostat up any higher. The kitchen was so cozy , we spent most of our time in there. We had a lovely holiday and will come back again!

  • "We are 3 sisters and a friend and have just spent an amazing week at Timbers."

The house is a home not a holiday house. Everything you could need or did not know you needed was there. I cooked on an Aga which was something I always wanted to try. The local area had some great walks but just sitting in the garden watching the boats on the river was something you would never get bored of. We can highly recommend The Dolphin Inn which also does take aways. You can reach the The Swan Inn over the causeway when the tide is out just be careful to keep an eye on the tide coming back in. They do jugs of Pimms, a great risotto and delicious ice cream. We are definitely booking again next year as there are still so many things to see and do in the area. Thanks for sharing you wonderful home with us Sue, Claire, Lynne, and Ann.

Very happy you liked Timbers with the wild swimming in the creek and we look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

We felt so at home we really didn’t want to leave. The house is very well equipped and we enjoyed the wonderful outside space. Bedrooms are spacious and airy. Sitting on the bench under the wisteria watching the boats and other river craft was the perfect tonic.

  • "We had a fantastic week at Timbers, the house and location are amazing, stunning views of the river and great walks and pubs nearby."

The Dolphin inn in the village was friendly with great food. The house was spotless and comfortable, felt really homely. Lots of steps but my parents in their 80s managed without any issues and loved the Aga and sitting on the terrace watching the life on the river. Thank you to the owners for all the small details and providing such a well furnished comfortable home, we really didn’t want to leave! Would hopefully like to try and return again in the future…

  • "Hi, we had a great time thank you very much, the house as you know is fabulous."

We did feel that a shower in the shared bathroom would be more appropriate than a bath. Also ,we understand but thought the 9am exit a bit severe. If the cleaners could just ring and say the house is ready for occupation prior to the official time , it would have been a nice touch too. Once again thank you and for the welcome pack too.

  • "'Timbers' is primarily memorable for its spectacular views."

We were so lucky to have 'Indian Summer' weather during our stay and the watery panorama seen from three of the bedroom windows and from the wooden benches on the wide terrace, delighted and entertained us all. From early morning mists to bright sunshine, we think the Yealm Estuary is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Having our own quay for the week was great. We hired a double kayak from Trioceansurf in Kingsbridge (01548 854676). They provided a soft roof rack, buoyancy aids and seats for £25 a day. One of us also brought an inflatable dingy so we spent plenty of time messing about on the water. The house is well equipped although the bathrooms and kitchen could do with a 'sparkle'. There are three bathrooms but only one has a proper shower. With six of us we had to organise a rota system. We are all used to having a quick shower in the morning and baths are normally saved for a long soak in the winter. The fridge is much too small for a group of 6+ people. There is a freezer in the utility but that doesn't really help with day-to-day food that needs to be kept chilled. The Aga does make the kitchen uncomfortably hot at times but we opened the windows and that was fine. It was useful to have a drying rack there to allow damp things to dry overnight. We ate at The Ship twice and had takeaway fish and chips from The Dolphin one night - all delicious. Sausages and pasties from the butcher on NF high street were wonderful. The weather was so hot that I went in search of a sun lounger but was not able to find one. We all have very happy memories of our glorious stay. The views from Timbers must be the best in Newton Ferrers!

  • "The location and views from the house were a delight."

The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable. The only reason I've not given top marks for the facilities is that there was only one shower in the house which was a little restrictive - a rota was needed after a beach day!

I have never been anywhere that was so equipped with everything you could possibly want. The children loved the piano and playing in the house. The Aga was a dream to cook on and the rack above it fantastic for drying wet clothes. We had the best time and I would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to explore South Devon.

Despite description saying parking there really was not off road specific parking. Also lots of builders around so parking outside house v difficult. Outside seats very basic & uncomfortable- cushions would have made a difference.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you loved Timbers. The parking is off road in the allocated area in front of the double garage of the property. We are sorry for the trouble caused by the builders, they will now move to allow easier parking Property Owner

  • "What a fantastic place to stay."

Brilliant location on the river. We took 2 inflatable kayaks with us and used the properties slipway to launch them bearing in mind the tide times. Great kayaking to Noss Mayo, down the River Yealm to Cellar Bay and on one day to Wembury beach (at low tide which is critical). Loved sitting on the Veranda and watching the various river craft go by. Kitchen Aga is lovely but does make the kitchen rather warm for summer but great for those colder days, cooking and drying towels/clothes out. One the nicest properties on the shore front Would absolutely love to go back and hope the family who own the property continue to rent out so other people can enjoy a unique riverside experience

  • "Only one niggle about the listing/property."

It noted that there was one off street parking space. I inquired in advance and was told that it was outside the property's garage. I duly parked there and was then asked to move my car as the owner said it was their space and they needed it kept free for their own access. Parking on street in August is actually not that easy as street is very busy, so I do feel this should be clarified. If there is a parking space, then I should not have been asked to move my car, and if there isn't then it should not have been advertised as having one.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The owners have been in touch to confirm the situation with the parking: There is indeed off-road parking at Timbers (on the road) and outside the double garage. Normally there is plenty of parking space outside the property along the road. Unfortunately one family member seems to have been confused and should not have asked for the guests vehicle to be moved. The parking is definitely there to be used for the guests and this is now clear. Apologies for the misunderstanding in this case. Property Owner

  • "We had a really lovely week’s stay in Timbers while our son in law was in Derriford."

The place was literally home from home, complete with an Aga, and airer over it to dry our damp clothes after a day out. Having the river just below, we loved to watch the tide come and go, and spot the boats and kayaks quietly making their way up and down. The little path below the house connects everything, and our grandchildren loved to go on errands to the Coop just a few minutes from the house. They also loved wallowing in the mud when the tide was low, but it was nothing the house couldn’t cope with! The house itself was warm and cosy, and just a lovely home to come back to each time we went out. Going to sleep listening to owls hooting, and waking to the soft splash of rowers going up the river made our days complete. At a difficult time in our lives, thank you Timbers.

Idyllic position and an extremely comfortable home. We enjoyed the barbecue, the short walk to the village (good to support the community shop), superb pubs at The Dolphin and The Ship and we went kayaking for four and half hours along the River Yealm. The owners were delightful and extremely helpful. We went really to have a relaxing week, to read, to chill and spend time with family. However we found time to visit Salcombe, Bigbury and Burgh Island and the wonderful National trust gardens at Our only regret - that we didn’t book for a second week! Hope to be back soon!

  • "We absolutely loved this house, particularly the amazing views."

The house is very clean and spacious with a really relaxed family atmosphere. This house has a real sense of history and therefore is not full of the modern features of some other holiday homes we have stayed in but I believe that was reflected in the price and did not detract from our enjoyment of the stay. The area of Newton Ferrers/Noss Mayo is picture pretty with wonderful walks straight from the garden along the creek to the coast. There are three sweet local pubs (one of them a very good gastro pub). We enjoyed days out to the Eden project, Totnes and nearby gardens. Wonderful house with a real family feel, we would definitely return.
