  • "We had a lovely week at the Old Church House Inn."

Fantastic venue for a large family gathering with plenty of space for everyone. We had our own pub quiz, made good use of the pool table and the darts, lit the fire in the lounge a few evenings and enjoyed the sunshine on the patio at the back. The pub garden was great for an Easter egg hunt for the little ones too. Amanda was very helpful and full of interesting information about this historic pub!

  • "We were a mixed group of family and friends staying for a long weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday."

The accommodation and facilities was superb for a group together. The kitchen was easy to use even with a large group of people in it. The areas downstairs catered for all our needs. We hope to stay again

  • "We had a fantastic New Year break, ideal place for all the family to gather, we did our own pub quiz in the bar and had lots of lovely country walks."

Rooms were clean and comfortable and the commercial kitchen was great when cooking on a large scale. It’s a bit of a rabbit warren and there was a lot of ducking through door ways but that was expected given its age. We also went prepared for chilly nights in such an old building but the heating was incredible, we didn’t even get the wood burners going because we’d of over heated. We’d love to go back in the Spring/summer and make the most of the pub garden.

  • "We were a party of 18 staying in this unique inn for a weekend which proved to be a fantastic venue to celebrate a very special birthday."

The spacious bar area lent itself to accommodating traditional pub activities e.g bar skittles, shove ha'penny karaoke which my family put on. The fact that the kitchen was upstairs and the dining room downstairs proved to be quite a workout for the younger and fitter members of the party. I was a bit surprised by the lack of any guest soap in the bedrooms given the current advice on frequent hand washing.Perhaps this is the government guidance for self catering establishments. However as we all had bath/shower products it was not insurmountable. We would definitely stay here again.

We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We supply soap, hand sanitiser and paper towels in all our common areas: downstairs' shared toilet facilities, kitchen, and bar kitchen. We do not supply personal products in en suites. We'll certainly take on board your comments however and provide guest soaps in en suites going forward. We invite guests staying with us in the future to comment on this any any other improvements we can make. Thanks for taking the time to give us constructive feedback. Property Owner

Stay in an historic Devon inn!

This enchanting Grade II* listed inn provides spacious and stylish accommodation to cater to the needs of your celebratory getaway with friends and family.

The Old Church House Torbryan is one of England's oldest and most unique inns: dating from the 13th century it is steeped in history and folklore.

Add to that it's special location- nestled in a picturesque village between majestic Dartmoor and Devon's glorious South Coast, and you have the perfect venue for a special getaway.

The venue comfortably accommodates up to 24 people, and can provide a range of services tailored to your needs- whether it's a family celebration, friends' getaway or business away event.

The venue is centered around theatmospheric bar, which, over the centuries, has welcomed Elizabeth I, HenryVIII (see the indentures on the walls) and, more recently, Arthur Conan Doyle, who is reputed to have developed the idea for The Hound of the Baskervilles at the inn.

On arrival, your choice of local ale, cider and lager will be on tap (first barrel included in price), along with a tailored selection of wines and spirits if required.

Along with our general cellar list, we can provide tailored wine/ spirit lists to suit your occasion.Bar staff, wine tastings and gin tastings can also be provided on request.

Surrounding the bar, there are multiple leisure areas to enjoy: a cosy lounge/library centered around a large log fire (logs supplied- we'll even come and light the fire for you on request!), a snooker room, darts alley and snugs.

The split level dining area has a breakfast bar with tea urn and large coffee maker.

We can supply cakes and afternoon teas if you are returning from walks on Dartmoor or a day at the beach.

The inn has a very large kitchen with fridges, freezers, dishwasher and large cooker.

We have good links with local chefs and caterers who will provide anything from a banquet or Hog Roast to a buffet.

We can arrange for a band to play in the bar if you'd like to be entertained while you relax, eat and drink.

Our beer garden has plenty of space for alfresco dining.

At the end of your day, make your way to one of the individually styled bedrooms, themed on Dartmoor wildlife: A selection of family, kingsize, single, and twin rooms, each with own en-suite, flatscreen TV, and tea and coffee-making facilities.

Cots supplied on request.

While South Devon's natural wonders and tourist attractions provide plenty to do, the inn can arrange activities for your party.

These include art classes, yoga/ wellness events, wine tastings, gin mixology- even a paranormal investigation!
