“A very well equipped and situated house in the picturesque village of Otterton.”

We enjoyed our week there walking in the local area and visiting some of the National Trust properties and beaches.

The property

This partly thatched, Grade II listed cottage is located in a pretty terrace beside the village green in Otterton.

With charming original old features and modern style, this is excellent accommodation for small families or couples.

From the street, open your front door into the spacious kitchen with traditional range as a feature.

Snuggle up beside the log burner in the comfy living room, which has glass doors through to a sunny dining room.

Both these rooms can open to the garden on a sunny day.

Head up the stairs to a delightful romantic double bedroom with a four poster bed, and a twin which has the handy option of converting to a big double bed.

The south facing garden is enclosed, with a seating area and steps leading you up to terraced lawns where the elevated position gives you peaceful views over the church and village.

The village is a typically pretty, tranquil Devon one where you will be welcomed at the pub and shop.

Otterton Mill is a fascinating place to visit, with its working mill, restaurant, bakery, shop and occasional events.

Explore the nature reserve on the banks of the River Otter and you may spot a wide variety of birds or if you are lucky, wild beavers who have been reintroduced.

Head down to the Jurassic Coast at Ladram Bay's pebble beach, or the elegant seaside town of Sidmouth.

For city attractions, Exeter has everything you could wish for.

11 The Green is a wonderful base for exploring this beautiful and peaceful region.

About the location

Budleigh Salterton 3 miles; Sidmouth 3 miles.

Set back from the coast among the rolling green countryside and wooded valleys of beautiful East Devon, this pretty village with its collection of traditionally thatched roofed cottages is straight from a picture postcard. Offering a quieter but no less beautiful holiday destination than the rest of the county it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind, and is just 3 miles from the Regency coastal resort towns of both Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path as it meanders above the waves towards the World Heritage Site ‘Jurassic Coast’ beaches with their abundant fossils. Ladram Bay with its red-stone sea stacks is just one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the banks of the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife play while just down the road from the village is Bicton Park and Botanical Gardens, 60 acres of garden lovers’ paradise. For a really interesting hour or two, visit the last working flour mill on the river Otter - it’s in the village and the flour is superb. There’s much to do and see in this beautiful and unspoilt area but if you want to explore further afield, the open spaces and high tors of Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour while the Cathedral city of Exeter with its superb shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is a mere 10 miles.
